I’ve taken a star off because it’s functioning as a corner store has began to suck and another was by default because it always kind of annoyed me that they closed so early, but, they still have great food. My recommendations? –Border Fries –Mini tacos –Texas Ranch burger –Pizza bread

I’ve lived in South Philly for about 2 years, and Michael’s is just a stone’s throw away from my house. For about the first year, I used MIchael’s anytime I needed a few quick groceries and didn’t feel like driving down to that oh-so-lovely Pathmark on Oregon Ave. One morning, while in there to get some half & half for my coffee, I smelled bacon cooking and decided to put in an order for a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich… and I’ve been hooked ever since. While I can’t say that everything else on their menu is as good(I realize cheesesteaks are a Philadelphia staple, but I’m no fan of Michael’s), they do breakfast as good as any other neighborhood spot I’ve found in South Philly. There’s no seating here, so if I’ve enticed you, be prepared to take your meal to go. The food is affordable, they get it done quickly, and even though you’re in the heart of South Philly, they’re very friendly, especially if they recognize your face. As with most neighborhood grocers or bodegas, you pay a little more for the convenience, but the prices aren’t nearly as steep as the L&M store just down the street.
