I was having coffee and a muffin at DiBruno’s on Chestnut and decided to stop into Levinthal’s to pick up a business card case for a friend — I actually bought a cigarette case which works just as well and is sturdier. I also purchased a hard eyeglass case for a friend who just bought a nice pair of Oakleys which did not come with a hard case — why they cannot throw one in when you buy a pair of sunglasses that cost over $ 100 is beyond me. They have a large selection of umbrellas, wallets, passport wallets, and other small items in addition to a store full of handbags.

We looooove Leventhal’s. For cheap unbrella’s in a pinch, or knock-off deisgner hand bags. Wallets, purses, all sorts of luggage and back packs. I got a really cute floral umbrella here and also a totebag — soooooo cheap!(But they don’t look cheap.) LOVE Leventhal’s.

Oh the weather outside was frightful, and McThrill was the idiot who left his scarf at home this morning while on his way to work(example #531 of how McThrill is more functional with caffeine). So as soon as work finished I made a mad dash for the nearest store with winter apparel in the window. And fortunately that ended up being Levinthal’s right across the street. And what an assortment of winter apparel they had! I was instantly going through reasonably priced hats with matching mittens and scarves. and the varieties they had were top notch. You know it’s cold outside when you see McThrill without spiky hair and wearing a hat(It’s kind of like the groundhog effect). But at least my black hat came with a pair of mittens. And for good measure I picked up a super long scarf. Not too bad for $ 10. And so I’m set to take on winter another day(or find a way to vacation in Fiji for free).

If you’re like me, and you like handbags but can’t afford designer, Levinthal’s is a great stop. They offer a pretty good range of bags in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are plain, and others are obvious replicas of higher priced brands, though they don’t sell blatant knock-offs of Coach and Louis Vuitton here. In the back of the store, they have a small selection of luggage, and towards the front bins of wallets. You’ll also find small things like compact mirrors, business card cases, umbrellas, and picture frames. I’ve picked up leather wallets there for under $ 15 and once found a card case for $ 3. Handbags range from $ 5 on sale to $ 50(though they do also sell Dooney & Bourke, which is obviously more expensive) Prices are more than reasonable, and stock changes frequently enough that I can browse often on lunch breaks and not really get too bored. If you want something specific, don’t worry, as the staff will approach you with a smile and help you find whatever you are looking for. They’re not pushy, however; if you’re just browsing, they leave you alone. That scores big points for me.
