I’ve been here once and never again! We stopped by and bought a rolled pastry to come home and found MOLDINTHEM! Granted we didn’t eat them that day but we put it in the fridge to eat the next day and when we opened the package, there was green fuzzy mold growing on them already… No wonder the store is always empty when we pass by…

I work nearby, so I bought breakfast there sometimes, like their egg tart, I could see a fluffy cat sometimes.

Food is always fresh and delicious. I make it a point to stop here every time I go to Chinatown. If it wasn’t cash only, I’d definitely buy more. Sometimes I don’t carry cash because, you know, credit cards. Sponge cake is a favorite of mine from KC Pastries. Staff is always friendly here.

I haven’t been to that many Asian bakeries in Philadelphia Chinatown, but KC’s Pastries is one of my favorite bakeries. Like any other bakeries in Chinatown, it has the most common pastries, such as Hot Dog Bun, Egg Custard, Coconut Bun, Croissant, Pork Bun, and etc. However, this is one of the decent ones, where both the prices are cheap and the staff is pretty friendly. Besides the quality and variety(bread, pastries, cakes, sweets), KC’s Pastries doesn’t have anything that really distinguish itself from others. Still KC’s Pastries is one of the better ones in Chinatown.

I’ve been to Bread Top House and Mayflower Bakery(both on Race Street) and this place wins(both others are solid though, to be clear; this is a preference). Atmosphere: When you walk in you’re hit with the smell of freshly baked egg-y bread sweetness. It’s a good sized bakery. No places to sit but buns and rolls line both sides of the space, and it was notably clean and cheery when I went. Product: Excellent selection of baked buns — the largest range of the 3. Sweet and savory. See the many photos and other reviews. They also have a ton of beautiful mooncakes in September. I had red bean buns at all 3 bakeries(see 1st sentence) as a basis for comparison, and both Bread Top House and KC’s were chock full of red bean goodness. Most buns are about $ 1. You can’t go wrong, especially compared to the $ 4 scones we see at coffee shops. Will definitely be back!

I didn’t really like the bun, so they should’ve gotten a lower rating. BUT, their boba drinks were surprisingly decent. My sister got a watermelon slush and my uncle got a strawberry one. Both were better than expected and even the boba was pretty okay. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.

One of my favorite bakeries in Chinatown — consistent in their quality. Their buns are big in size compared to other bakeries. This place is cash only and self serve. I love the cream filled buns, chicken curry, coffee rolls & egg tarts here. Their fruit smoothies are good too! I grew up coming to this bakery, even from the time they used to be on 11th street. I always recommend it to friends who come to visit.

Best Bubble Tea in Philadelphia hands down. The buns are also amazing and freshly made, one of the best tasting I’ve had in the East Coast. If you’re in Chinatown Philly, you have to stop by

Very reasonable price pastries. I strongly recommend the egg tart and the french pastries. The pork bun is really fulfilling and yum. A decent Asian bakery compared to all Chinatown bakeries in Philly.

So many different bakeries in Chinatown, but this place takes the cake! They’re really good at their buns in terms of consistency. I love their egg tarts, the crust is sweeter and not as flaky as regular egg tarts, but I prefer that. Their other buns tend to be sweeter than normal Chinese pastries too, which usually aren’t too sweet, but I like that also. The fruit smoothies with bubbles are awesome and a steal! $ 3 for an all fruit smoothie with bubbles? Beats the $ 4.25 you’d pay at Kung fu for a slush with bubbles. They’re also delicious, not overly sweet, and the bubbles are perfect, not too big and the right amount of chew.

A huge draw for me to this place is the self-serve then pay method. Because as someone who takes forever to decide on what she wants, only after scoping out the display case, the pressure can get pretty intense as lines build and worker patience decreases. Here, I can take as much time as I want with my red tray and tongs. I usually end up getting a ton of pork buns(freeze em for the future!), custard cream buns(very good here), and something new I haven’t tried. K.C.‘s dough has a slight sweetness to it I appreciate, and is always fluffy. I can’t speak for the cakes or bubble tea, here. *Cash only.

This place is great. Very inexpensive prices for all of the options. I love their almond pastries and their wonderful, rich white bread. The sponge cake was a bit dry and bland, but it was still good. Service was quick and spoke English quite well. The décor was basic and there were a lot of options.

Tasty asian bakery with tons of options. If I ever find myself with an extra dollar in my pocket, I will head directly here and buy a bbq pork bun. If I don’t have a dollar, I will root around in my bag for loose change and try to scrounge a dollar so I can buy a bbq pork bun. Sesame balls are also yum.

Like many other Asian bakeries, KC’s Pastries offers both Asian-style, in this case Chinese, and European-style bread and pastries. You can also get boba here. The prices are affordable compared to European-style bakeries like Au Bön Pain, but in Philly Chinatown specifically I know at least one other bakery with slightly cheaper prices. Nevertheless, I’m not going to complain about getting a huge loaf of sliced raisin bread for only $ 2.50. A slice of European-style cake(two of which were literally labeled«FRENCHPASTRY» to my amusement) goes for less than $ 3. Sadly, KC’s doesn’t sell my favorite black forest cake. After feasting my eyes on all KC’s had to offer, I decided to get a cream custard bun, sesame ball, raisin bread mentioned above, and a box of nine pork steamed buns. The pork steamed buns were supposed to last for a week according to the cashier, but I saw they already had mold after only two days. From the one bun that I managed to eat before I had to throw the rest away, the filling tasted pretty bland unfortunately. The bread of the cream custard bun was pretty fluffy, but the filling was too sweet in my opinion. My favorite was the sesame ball, which is red bean paste inside a fried sticky rice ball covered with white sesame seeds.

Decided to compare both KC’s and saint honor’s egg tarts and the winner is saint honor! KC’s isn’t bad but it’s the crust where they lost. It was more like a pie crust rather than a flaky tart crust. The egg custard was okay though, not as sweet as saint honor’s.

Egg tarts were delicious — especially when they are hot out of the oven! They make them fresh throughout the day so hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to get them warm As for their savory buns… I would stick to the sweet buns.

So many bakeries in Chinatown, all with similar offerings… Choose KC’s! This is the one that I prefer out of the many other ones with flashy lights and signs. They just have a simple red awning with their name. The pastries here are light and fluffy and the bread itself has the best amount of subtle sweet flavor. This place also has my favorite bubble milk tea in all of Chinatown, even out of the bubble tea houses. I love that they put crushed ice in your cup, which actually comes up when you drink through the jumbo straw. Crushed ice goes a long way on a hot day.

Checked out KC’s w/JJ for a few fruit bubble freezes. Portion size, price, and quality easily earn them four-stars. I mean, 3 bucks for a real fruit smoothie with bubbles. On my next trip, I decided I’d give their pastries a chance too. There are a ton to choose from, so your bound to find something you like. I know I managed to come across quite a few reasonably prices, fresh and nice sized pastries to enjoy following one of our meals in Chinatown. Not much else to say. Its a small shop that I think is family run. I haven’t seen more than 1 person working the counter and it is usually quite busy. They are friendly, but usually appear to be running around too much to help with suggestions. Given the prices, my advice is to roll the dice with anything you think looks good… it probably is!
