Stylist: Marquita Day of Appointment: Friday Style/Treatment: Wash, Deep Condition, Trim, Press & Curl Price: $ 60.00 I am very please with the way my hair turned out! I moved to the east coast from California and for 7 months had not been able to find a stylist that could press my hair to my satisfaction, until I went to Itno-j. I made a last minute appointment(the day before i wanted to be seen) and was scheduled with no problems. What was even better, when I arrived I was seen on time. I did request a quote over the phone and the receptionist gave me a general price but did let me know that the price was based on the length and texture of my hair. Like I stated previously, I am very please with the way my hair turned out. It is soft and bouncy with just enough shine. The stylist got my hair straight without burning it, or putting to much heat on it, I was actually surprised that I didn’t smell or see steam coming from my hair. She NEVERONCE burned my scalp and the only product that she used on my hair was a bit of oil sheen and holding spay. The atmosphere in the shop is very calming. The shop itself is exceptionally clean and well kept. It is a Christian salon and they do play gospel music, however its not to the point where someone who is not Christian would feel uncomfortable. The shop is located about 5 or 6 block down from Drexel University, in what some might consider a «rough neighborhood», but the people in the neighborhood and surrounding business are very friendly. The icing on the cake for me was the fact that the salon takes debit/credit cards(for a 50 cent fee) which is very convenient.

I have been going to ItnoJ ever since I began my stint as a student at the University of Pennsylvania. ItnoJ is what every hair salon should be: prompt, clean, courteous and knowledgeable. They will not just do anything to your hair; they actually know what’s good for your hair and what’s bad and will act accordingly. I like to call them hair care specialists. Definitely ask for Loreen when you go. They are a little on the pricey side but they do use quality products and give amazing results. Also, and added bonus for me anyway is that it is a Christian owned salon. ItnoJ means In the name of Jesus. But even if you aren’t Christian, definitely stop by for individualized service and great hair care.

First off, you should know that Itno-J is an acronym that stands for In the Name of Jesus. Stop laughing; I’m writing here. Jesus’s salon is plagued with several problems, namely barbarism. Allow me to paint for you one illustrative picture: when I came in to have my hair washed and pressed, the hair washer took a comb & scraped my scalp until it bled. Apparently, this insane practice is part of standard operating procedure. Ladies, would Jesus scrape someone’s head like a day-old dirty dishpan? I don’t think so. This is also the sort of place where the price you are quoted at the outset won’t necessarily match the price you are charged after your head has been scraped until it bleeds. What surrounds Itno-J, you ask? Crown Fried Chicken, a pizza shop, a dollar store, another several dollars store, a bar, a hair supply store, and the 40th Street El Stop. You know you want it. I should also mention that I came in with a lovely full ‘fro a la Macy Gray. I left with bone straight hair a la Andre 3000 in the Hey Ya video. Not sexy. I should have known what I was in for when my stylist told me she is «the press queen.» Sure, I wanted it straightened, but damn! I think my hair died a little, and I don’t think Jesus appreciates having his name sullied by this rinky dink operation. Save your time, money, hair, and wellbeing from the black hole that is Itno-J.
