i am an adult beginner, BUT in addition to my own violin, which i took here to be repaired, i also run a private charity project(not tax exempt) refurbishing cheap yard sale and Craigslist finds for needy students. Most of the repairs i do are just new strings and very very simple stuff, but i started needed a real luthier for some… had some interesting bad adventures… then i got referred to Golden Violin. Harry is an angel. telling me what repairs were the bare minimum for affordable playability… what was optional(if nice) and telling me where i could shave some costs… so i could donate these instruments … my personal violin came back from him sounding 100 times better! i have since had to take a poor repair job from another luthier to him also… PS walking into his shop is enough to make s string lover start drooling…

Harold Golden is an award-winning violin craftsman and a wonderful teacher. He puts children at ease and is very relaxed in his approach to teaching. But he inspires kids to practice and treats them as musicians from day 1. He is easy-going and genuinely interested in people and their engagement with and enjoyment of music. He rents and repairs violins — he just exchanges instruments when you need another one. He works with many children and adults, in just about every stringed instrument including violins, viola, bass, mandolin, and guitar. His workshop is right in Chestnut Hill, which makes it very easy to run a few errands while your kids are at their lesson or afterwards. Plenty of parking and very fare rates, plus his students’ success getting into CAPA and other schools make for the perfect package.
