Free Library of Philadelphia – Lovett Branch

Horrible customer service.
I went to this branch to replace my lost library card. I was sent to speak with Therese, who I assume is the head librarian. Have you ever had a person look at you with absolute disdain? That’s Therese. Couldn’t have made me feel less human with her dismissiveness. She embodies the stereotype of the grumpy librarian and with the personality of a stale fart to boot. I’d rather buy my books from Amazon than visit this library again. I threw my library card away on the way out.

I love my neighborhood library! Whether it’s a brand new book, an old audio recording, an ebook, magazine, DVD, etc., don’t sleep on the Free Libraries of Philadelphia. They are TERRIFIC free resources to get and/​or continue your learnin’.
Folk need a place to go get they learnin’, and I’m delighted to have this li’l gem in my midst. I really appreciate the extended hours on Mondays and Wednesdays (they close at 9), but you gotta watch out for the super warm summer days at the Lovett when they’ll shut things down earlier than anticipated!
Seriously though. The staff is always incredibly helpful and kind. This may be a deterrent for some, but they take their time with you – when you ask for help, when they’re checking you out. Some people come into the library like it’s a pit stop at a NASCAR race. Pump your brakes and come ready to meet your neighbors and stroll through the Dewey decimal system of old.

small cozy library, catty corner to the acme. you can borrow up to 10 dvds at a time! for free! yes i know, libraries are free, but it never crossed my mind that they would have movies! you can also renew your books and movies over the phone. i havent spent much time here yet, but plan to stop by regularly. so far i know they have current teen novels, internet access, and unique circle benches in a big grassy side yard (perfect for a game of fribee or a picnic!).
