We like to play tennis here bc of the number of courts available usually means there is a court free for us to play. Somedays, there are lessons, and the courts are not in the best condition, also. But really, I’m just glad to have a court to play tennis sometimes. There are no real bathrooms, but there is a port-a-potty nearby that needs to be cleaned more often bc sometimes, if the wind is blowing your way, well, you know…

I would give this spot 4 stars but the location needs some improvement. First off the restroom is an issue. I came here for BBQ twice and we couldn’t find any restrooms. The ones that were there not sure why it wasn’t open. The first time, we asked to use the bathroom at the swimming pool area and the lady gave us a hard time. «You have to swim» to use it. Okay? The porta potty were rented by people doing bbq there and wasn’t for public use but they were nice enough to let us use it. However this lady was just rude. Second time, we had to drive to nearby places for the restroom. The only reason we do BBQ here is because we wanted to play tennis as well. But horrible. Lastly, the times I’ve been here lots of random stuff like people horse riding?

My wife and I were here the other day after looking for months for public tennis courts. We like playing when the urge comes up and have a hard time trying to decide when we are going to play so the Lott courts on Penn’s campus don’t work for us. We were a bit nervous to head up this way because we had never been before, but this place was great. They have 10 courts that are in very good shape. There are plenty of places to park on the streets that are in Fairmount park, and it was not very busy. We were there at like 3:00 on a Sunday afternoon and there were only about 4 other courts in use. Co workers did not even know this place existed. There are benches all around and there are bathrooms near by, but bring your own water. The courts are close enough to the main street that there if you wanted to, you could even take public transportation there. We saw buses going by on Diamond St all afternoon, but it is far back enough that you don’t hear anything. I know Fairmount park has a Unilocal review already, but I had a heck of a time finding a tennis court, so I figured I would create this review specific to the courts in case there were others like us looking for a public court. The courts are well fenced in but there are no lights so around dusk, playing will be tough. Hope people go visit and enjoy themselves. Unfortunately, fairmount park system does not advertise the court very well.
