DSLR Workshops by Okello Dunkley

Good for Okello for having so many positive reviews because my experience with him has been anything but. The sad part is that I never ended up attending one of his workshops, yet still feel compelled to write a negative review regarding his poor customer service. To put things into perspective, I’ve never written a negative review in my life.
Anyway, my negative experience all started when he EMAILED me ONE day prior to the workshop, addressing me by the wrong name, to inform me that the workshop I signed up for was cancelled and had to be rescheduled due to the hotel hosting the workshop being under renovation. From what I understand, the situation was out of his control, but you would think someone who does this for living would have all their ducks in a row before charging $ 99 a head to attend a workshop. Regardless, understanding that life happens, I simply informed him that his workshop was a surprise gift for my mother’s birthday and that I’d have to find something else to do with her. As such, I requested a refund, to which he agreed to. I wrote an additional email requesting confirmation of the refund and a possible timeline as to when the refund would be processed. We had some back and forth communication going on up until that point. Three emails and four days later I called due to no response whatsoever. He seemed extremely annoyed by me, as if the simple questions I asked him were completely absurd.
While his workshops may be wonderful, his complete lack of professionalism towards me has been appalling and that is simply not the kind of person I want to give my business to. I guess not attending one of his workshops was a good thing after all.

This class does exactly what it advertises! It teaches you how to get your camera off program, and start learning about all the features a DSLR camera really offers. The class was incredibly helpful and I’m so glad that I went to it. Okello is extremely personable and amusing throughout the class, which helped it not to feel boring or stuffy. He completely «gets» that we’re novices and the class was structured perfectly. He uses lots of visuals and also attaches Canon and Nikon cameras so you will see on a screen exactly what you should see on your own camera. It is very hands on and gives you a chance to really try what you’re learning. His teaching style is intuitive, which helps him answer questions easily. He seems very knowledgeable about the different cameras and the different features/​set ups of each. I would definitely recommend this class for beginners or those who THINK they’re not beginners… but still always shoot on program mode! :) I learned quite a bit and hope to put it all in practice enough to take the second class. Great information, great teacher, great value. I had very little knowledge about my canon t3i and now I am excited to use all that I learned and hopefully go back for another session. Okello is very knowledgeable and down to earth… he teaches well. Highly recommend!

I had a basic understanding of my DSLR camera… but no real understanding of how to put it all together and take good pics. Okello really explained things well. Don’t be afraid if you are a true beginner… he will explain things in terms you can understand, and take time to answer any questions. On top of all of that, he is a nice guy. Highly recommended.

You have no Idea how much this helped me with my camera. I have spent 1000’s on equipment and could not get the results till I took Okello’s class. Just signed up for part 2.

Just took Okello’s class on learning to use the manual and aperture buttons on your camera instead of auto settings… Informative, useful, fun, worth it, etc are descriptions that come to mind immediately! Looking forward to follow up class in February. Thanks Okello.
