I’m not even going to try to profess that I can capture all the beauty, wonderful musical scores, stunning costume designs, stage props, the acting of the most intriguing characters one could ever imagine, the talented dancing, instead I will boast that Beauty and The Beast is one of the best musicals I have ever seen, I did not want it to end! You all know the story and even though the first book on Beauty and The Beast was published in 1740, it has been rewritten many times, brought to cinema and then of course Disney made it famous with the animated movie and claiming Belle as one of the Disney princesses. But oh my heavens, seeing it on Broadway, I adored it, absolutely loved it and would gladly see it again because it is so very entertaining. Losing her mother and witnessing her being shot to death is not portrayed in the Broadway musical, but I about jumped out of my chair and did scream when the sword fight and stabbings between the Beast and Gaston at the end were quite alarming. I remember when my daughter was getting her Masters in Psychology, how she stated that Disney movies can be very traumatic to a child and as we walked into the theatre there were so many beautiful little girls, all dressed up in princess gowns and tiaras. A lot of them lost interest in the production quickly and I seriously think it is more geared towards a mature audience. Each and every character fulfilled your every wish and desire in playing their role, even Gaston, the cad that tried to force his ill conceived idea of love on Belle. Lumiere, the casanova of all candelabras, had to be my favorite, such a suave and vivacious«gentleman» and as any gracious host would, treats Belle with warmth and to a spectacular show stopping number, «Be Our Guest». He along with the clock, Cogsworth with the voice of reason and Mrs. Potts(the tea pot) play an instrumental part in helping Belle and the Beast fall in love. You all know the story and how beautiful and intelligent Belle is very adventurous and falls in love with the Beast, which of course breaks the long spell that was cast on the prince turned beast and those living in the castle. Just go and see it! It’s amazing, hilarious, outstanding, beyond entertaining and of course there is love. Enchanting!
