I’ve only ordered takeout from here, but the service was very prompt and friendly. I even got greeted by name when I walked through the door. Let’s start with the pros: –affordable Indian food, decent portions(despite what other reviews say, it is a rational-sized portion. I ordered naan and chaat after not eating all day and it filled me up). –pretty quick turnaround time –very cute space and décor Cons: –some of the food needed more spice –the chaat and naan were good, but didn’t stand out I am spoiled by the Indian food options available in West Philly, but now that I live in South Philly, I’ll take what I can get, since this is literally the only Indian place I know of in the area.

I came to Chaat and Chai with high hopes, but I was disappointed. The restaurant talks a big talk about authenticity, but as a bona fide Desi, I hardly recognized anything. Now, the dining room is gorgeous, and the food – I had the chicken chettinad – was ultimately delicious. But three things struck me the wrong way. First, the dish was very sweet. While other reviewers preferred the«accessibility» this provided, I was hoping for some heat. Second, while the server was very friendly, she had limited facility with the menu, stumbling over the names and descriptions of dishes and drinks. Third, the food was good, but merely mediocre for the prices, which were much higher than I expected. As a final note, I’m afraid that my overall impression was cemented on my way out… as I left to the soundtrack of «Jai Ho» from Slumdog Millionaire. For self-respectingly authentic and reasonably priced Indian street food, I would recommend Philadelphia Chutney Company instead.

The Samosa Chaat was delicious and beautifully presented. Also excellent and unique to me was the Pachadi — a side dish of beets, yogurt, shredded coconut, toasted onions, mustard seed and a bit of chili pepper. So good on Indian breads. The flavors of everything were just right which must be tricky with so many exotic ingredients. The colorful décor is wonderful too. It was a cold, gray day and the surroundings were a real mood lifter.

This is a great establishment. As soon as you walk in, the bright and bold colors invite you to sit and enjoy. The chai is strong, but sweet. The samosas are fantastic. I had waffles that were served gourmet style. The staff is friendly and quickly accommodating.

I saw some poor reviews regarding the prices but tell me where you can get freshly made delicious Indian food in Philly where it’s not overly spiced to the point that you can no longer distinguish the flavor of each ingredients? Yes, the portions are not astronomical but this isn’t an Indian buffet. I feel that an appetizer with an entrée is plentiful at this establishment. I love the décor, colorful, vibrant, cozy and offers a fresh take on Indian cuisine in the West Passyunk neighborhood. The staff are always so sweet and wonderful. The food selections varies from mild to strong in terms of flavor and spice. It definitely can appease a variety of taste buds from a newbie to an expert. I look forward to many more visits. Those paneer sandwiches are to die for!!!

Went here with a group last weekend, which was great as we got to share each others dishes and taste a lot of the menu. We started with some Chaat’s to share which we’re really nice, and unlike any Indian food I’ve had before. The Chana Chat was my favorite. For my entrée I had the lamb curry which was quite delicious with just the right amount of spice. My friend had the beef short ribs, which were served as 3 tacos and we’re amazing. The beef was incredibly tender and delicious. The restaurant is well decorated with a really bright Indian motif. It’s a small restaurant with minimal seating(maybe 20 seats) it was pretty much full the Saturday that we we’re there. I’d definitely recommend this place and hope to go back soon.

Great chai, ginger fennel is on point. Very cute space, cozy and bright. Veg curry bowl, samosa chaat, bread basket — all good, especially the pickle w the curry. Our server Rohan was a sweetheart, love him!

Excellent little spot in Newbold! The restaurant is vibrantly painted and cheery. We started with chai(the fennel and ginger) which was comforting and delightful and not too sweet. We moved on to some chaat and the chicken of the day. Everything was tasty. The service was quite friendly and we are very glad to have this new addition in the area.

Not bad. I was expecting the dishes to be more authentic. I liked their pani puris, but $ 8 for 5 is expensive. I’ll keep to going to Jersey for my $ 4 bag of 25 puris. I would likely go back.

We stumbled upon this place during our visit to Philly. We love Indian food and thought the sign was cool. We walked in and were quite surprised. It is brightly decorated with Indian street-like art in bold colors, really fun! The staff were friendly and had no problem explaining the concept and all the different dishes. We sampled a bevy of the menu items and loved every one! The chicken tikka chaat was my favorite paired with the pickled lime and the basmati rice/dal side dish. The vibe was great, sort of Buddha Bar music playing in the background. Also try the mango chutney… really delish! We had a great dinner and didn’t break the bank for a feast! I would like to see some more appetizers on the menu, but it’s new and I’m sure the menu is evolving! Really great find! Can’t wait to go back!
