I love this quirky little place! The food is delicious and the coffee is excellent! The prices are very affordable, and their music playlist was wonderful, as well as not too loud. This is a great place to have lunch with a friend, read a book while waiting for a friend, park for a while to study/work, as well as just enjoy their fare. The location is also great.

I visited this bakery around 8p on a Monday. I was craving a nice dessert café that offered complimentary wifi and a large seating area. This place delivered on all of those counts. The bakery selection is small. They have a nice selection of vegan and gluten-free breads. I had the ginger apple which was very flavorful and light. I ordered the M&M blondie, which fair but very rich. I also had a steamed milk, which was delivered to my table by the barista. For a bakery, I would have liked to see tons of options from cookies, to fresh cake and pie. They just had a few brownies, dessert breads, and in a refrigerator, some sliced cake. Considering the title, I found it odd that there was not a lot of cake. The service was fairly kind. The place is a bit«hippie» and is spacious and visually appealing. The internet is speedy. The place was empty. I asked the barista if this is normal and she said it has become a problem for the business. She seemed at a loss as to why it was so dead, blaming surrounding bars and human alcoholic needs. I understand her thoughts and am wondering if bakeries are becoming less appreciated in Philadelphia. Also, to use a credit card, you must spend over $ 5. That is why I ordered the extra bakery item.

Really nice spot… definitely some place to come have a pastry and drink while trying to get some work done. I had a chocolate croissant and devoured it in the couple mintes walk to my car lol. Tried my friend’s cranberry crumb cake and it was sweet and tart. Randomly found it while looking for a place to have coffee and I’m glad we did!

Really cute place. My husband and I tried the Reese’s blondie and weren’t disappointed. The dessert wasn’t too sweet and wasn’t too«peanut buttery». The portion size was generous and could easily be shared by 2 people. Very friendly service, I’ll be back to try some more sweets.

I came here because I arrived early one morning in Philly, and wanted to find a cute local coffee shop. This one had EXACTLY the vibe I was looking for! I chose it because of the name, Cake and the Beanstalk? Sounds cute, homey, and organic. I was not disappointed. The store is cute, with beans talks running across the front sides and windows. They have all these cute homemade signs with bubble letters; advertising different types of drinks. There was a window seat, with fluffy pillows, and a side section with all the seating. I was immediately drawn to the Kokomo– I love soy coconut mocha lattes!!! It was scrumptious to say the least. The best I’ve ever had– since Besos in Monteverde(sadly there is no Unilocal in CR). The flavor was so coconutty!!! I drank it and it replenished me and filled me with joy. This is exactly how coffee should taste like. I am coming back again next week– to try the Rochero latte!!!

Hidden gem for sure. If you want great coffee with an authentic atmosphere, walk right past nearby Saxby’s and grab a cup at Cake and the Beanstalk. Great coffee, and delicious baked goods. I had the good fortune of getting some work done here, and the whole experience was great. Fast wifi, ample small tables, two people even played quiet classical guitar after a while. If you need a big group to meet at a coffee shop, Cake isn’t your jam; but if you need to get some work done in one of the coolest coffee shops in Philly, do it at Cake and the Beanstalk.

I really like this little coffee/tea shop. there are others in the neighborhood that flat out are rude and only serve their friends. These guys have high quality tea and desserts that I can’t resist. My favorite is their blondies, with assorted candy inside. What’s it going to be this time? Reese’s Pieces? Oreos? M&M? Butterfingers? Just going to have to go and find out. It’s a nice place to hang out, no one is going to rush you out of there. Keep it up CatB!

Stopped here on a rainy evening and was surprised to see that there was only one other person in there. It’s super cute inside with painted chairs with cool quotes and sayings — love the unique vibe! I only had a tea so I can’t speak on the food, but the tea was delicious and cheap! Free wifi which was great. There was no music playing in the dining room which made it a little eerily quiet, the only music came from the other room where the counter is. Definitely would come back next time I’m in Philly!

Cute little coffee shop to study, read, or meet with a friend for coffee. They have a little patio overlooking the community garden that is nice to come in the warm weather(bonus: there’s an outlet outside and free wifi) Inside, there are about 7 tables and a few stand-alone chairs to sit in. The windows are large and let in a lot of light and the overall ambiance is fun and whimsical. They have quite a few drink options, though I am boring and usually just get a regular coffee so I can’t comment on the rest! They have lots of sweets and treats as well that all look delicious. I’ve had their grilled cheese and soup before and they were both good and reasonably priced. I do wish they had a few more sandwich/lunch options, as I tend to get hungry while I study. They do take Level Up which is a plus and they offer a 10% discount for students, as well as Jefferson employees. You won’t regret coming here!

I came here with my boyfriend to scavenge for dessert on a Saturday afternoon. The cashiers strongly advised getting one of their cheesecakes and we went with the Oreo cheesecake. My boyfriend also got a coffee and we enjoyed both in the seating area. It was quiet because folks were studying/sketching/reading but not in the way many cafes are where I feel everyone shooting dagger eyes in my direction. Overall a cozy place with comforting food and drink good for chatting or working!

This is one of the BEST cafes in Philadelphia. Not only are their coffees and loose-leaf teas brewed to perfection, their cakes and goodies are delicious. Their prices are fantastic as well: less than $ 3 for a tall glass of hot tea? Yes please! Skip the café chains and stick to Cake and the Beanstalk!

In this fast paced, phrenetic, high expressed emotion, and self centered society in which we appear to live in, there is a small, bucolic, respite in center city Philadelphia, that tends to soothe ones sense and sensibilities. Cake and The Beanstalk, offers peace and tranquility. As one enters, olfactory sensations are overcome, by the smells of freshly baked goods. The pastries are all home made from scratch, and are delectable. The coffee, I feel, is clearly the best in town. The service is constantly, warm and friendly. It is so easy to find a warm seat, relax with a good book, talk to a friend, or even take a snooze. Besides the superlative gustatory delights, is a quiet oasis, in this society of mass produced and pseudo sophisticated chain operations. This oasis makes me feel peaceful and well fed. Randy

The place is beautiful and pleasant to be at, you have to love the art work and joy it brings you being there! Very down to earth and love the sunlight that bursts through the large windows :) It’s a wonderful place to be at meeting people or studying because of the ambiance. Check out the chairs! All the workers are also extremely friendly! However, after coming here several times, I can’t recommend the food or drinks. The sandwiches were very basic… I had two multi grain breads with one slice of red pepper and a piece of chicken which cost ~$ 5. I could not believe it. The drinks are average, but a little diluted for my preference especially the mocha. I would come here for enjoying the people and place, but not so much the food.

A great place to stop by and work for a few hours while supporting a small business. The service is always so friendly, and the interior decorations are very Alice in the Wonderland-esque. Although it may seem childish, I actually find it quite refreshing from other more modern coffee stores that have been popping up in Center City recently. AND none of that hipster attitude. Hurray! Their coffee is solid and wi-fi is reliable. They also have several outlets in the seating area. All of these elements combined make it a nice café to work in when I am looking for something a little bit different. Tip: 10% student and teacher discount!

A lot of people have their go-to neighborhood coffee shop and cake and beanstalk is mine! I love this place. It’s not a regular modern, sleek,(slightly pretentious) coffee shop, but rather a bit hipster, funky, but also down to earth and cozy. It reminds me of Alice in Wonderland every time with its creative decoration, no two tables the same. There are interesting and cheering paintings/quotes everywhere you look. I’m not a big coffee drinker, but I love their teas — many different unique flavors that never ceases to surprise me. Everything is moderately priced. The staff is always very friendly. And the background music is never overbearing, so it’s a nice place to work. So next time you walk by, don’t be fooled by the small, modest appearance of outside. Stop by!

Yum! This place is awesome. Not only is it unique and has a very non-corporate touch, but their food and beverages are delicious. My personal favorite is the egg sandwich with cheese and red peppers on a croissant — it is hands down one of the best breakfast sandwiches I’ve ever tasted — which is dangerous since this place is on my way to work and I am now addicted. The coffee/lattes are also magnificent and very high quality, with the milk steamed to just the perfect frothiness. This is now a go to breakfast spot for me and I can’t wait to try different items, and sit in the ‘sun’ room on a lazy afternoon :) Also, they give you a 10% discount if you are a student(I think, correct me if I am remembering wrong)

[ summary ] I think they were going for a cross between hipster café and kindergarten classroom, which works in an odd kind of way. Board games, picture books, decent coffee, and yummy home-style desserts. [ food ] Coffee is fine. Desserts are probably the kind of stuff you were baking with your parents when you were eight. I’ve tried the Jewish apple cake and the brownie with Franklin Fountain ice cream. Hit the spot. Portions are huge! [ vibe ] Green plaster finish on the wall. Handwritten signs everywhere. There’s neat fairy-tale themed art on the walls(quotes from Jack and the Beanstalk). Tables remind me of a kindergarten classroom. I would find it hard to concentrate and actually take myself seriously in doing work here, but maybe I’m too far removed from hipster-land to get it. In any case, it’s kind of cute, in a messy, 5 year old kid kind of way. [ conclusion ] Definitely not Starbucks. If that’s a good thing in your book, give it a go.

Finally I made it to this hip and relaxing cozy coffee spot. It was late sunday and I was debating if I should get coffee and be up all night or just browse the mouthwatering pastries. The friendly barista offered to prepare half decaffeinated coffee, and that was good. My friend got a Strawberry Banana smoothie, which I tried and thought it was good as well. Will go back to try some sweet treats. They serve breakfast sandwiches all day and accept credit cards. Three and half Unilocal

Try everything it’s so yummy, and don’t forget to get your desserts a la mode! Although I haven’t tried many gourmet coffee houses in Center City this by far has to be my favorite. Cake and the Beanstalk has a very artsy feel, and I get the idea that Vegi Lovers and Vegans could benefit from a visit here, Gluten Free lovers too! Their coffee is some of the best that I’ve tasted far surpassing Starbucks. They also have some great ambiance and very friendly customer service. If you are around the Gayborhood, and want the right kind of experience, check Cake and the Beanstalk out.

one word: affogato. My choice was with vanilla ice cream and the guy’s was chocolate. We came here on a whim for coffee and after seeing someone’s Unilocal pic for the affogato i knew i had to have it. I loved it. He loved it. We loved it!
