I found myself unprepared for a night out at the last minute and needed an emergency top for which I did not need a bra. I have passed Bohema a thousand times if I’ve passed it once, but I never thought about stopping in because, as the name suggests, it’s a little bohemian and that’s not really my style. This time, however, with my only demand being a shirt that required no bra, it seemed the perfect place to look. To my surprise and delight, it not only was the best place to stop, I really liked the clothes inside once I actually took the time to look at them. There were three people working there, or maybe two were just hanging out with the one girl, but all three were nice and extremely helpful. The guy offered to leave the store so I could try on clothes, the one woman taught me to use the tops of support hose that got runs in lieu of bras(handy, green and awesome, right?), and the third made me feel better when i knocked over their pile of cds with my giant bag not once, not twice, but three(yes, count ‘em 1−2−3) times. I believe all the clothes are used, but many have been reconstituted or recombined with other patterns and/or fabrics to make really interesting and occasionally really beautiful tops and dresses. There is a room in the back that is everything 3 for $ 10 and there are TONSOFJEANSINTHERE!!! not to mention tanks and blouses and skirts and a box full of stuff that i think even included a wedding dress(i was NOT trying to pull that baby out of the box). There is unique and funky jewelry by the front door to complement whatever you end up buying(i got a slinky, fake-see-through top that i definitely went braless and happy in, yay!) All said, I am glad for my «emergency» or I never would have realized what a gem we have in nearby, beautiful Roxborough…

I stopped into Bohema yesterday while I was in Roxborough, and I have to say it’s a great place! After having passed by it many times I was curious as to what it was, and when I finally got to check it out, it exceeded my expectations. The owner, Ally, is very sweet and friendly and carries a great selection of vintage goodies! Prices are reasonable too. She also hosts events such as professional networking for women as well as open mics! I hope to make it out to one of those events someday.

Bohema is a GREAT little treasure on the Ridge in Roxborough. Ali, the owner, provides a great setting for local artisans to showcase their works(hand crafted jewely, accessories, one-of-a-kind clothing/art), as well as a kitschy atmosphere for showcasing new and vintage clothing. And thanks Amelia! I’m actually the person who makes the soaps that Bohema sells :)(East Falls Soap Co.) Plus, Stitch-n-Bitch Wednesday nights are always a good stress relief to sit and chill and create things with yarn(when I’m not taking evening classes) WAYTOGOALI!
