Loved this place! An arts organization I belong to hosted a small event here this week and we had such a good time, meeting folks and talking about comics, zines, and art. When we first walked in we took in how bright and cheerful the(nice, large) room is, and then we smelled the baking! We ate some of the delicious banana bread and cupcakes and thoroughly enjoyed them. I’m excited to come back another time so I can browse through their book collection more seriously.

I was there on Sunday, Valentine’s Day. I’m not a comic book guy, or at least I wasn’t. The atmosphere, the layout, and the COFFEE made me buy two comics. And I know I’m going back for me. It’s strange how a coffee house managed to get me into comics, but this place is truly unique. I can’t wait to go back and begin a new hobby!

Amalgam Comics and Coffee House is a tiny bit of heaven on Earth for geeks like me. It is a large, open, inviting space with a decent selection of comics, graphic novels and Manga. There’s even a kid’s corner for the PreK — 3rd grade set. The walls are covered with posters and comic art. The tables are decorated with the logos of various comic book characters. The café sells coffee, tea, lattes, bagels, croissants, danishes as well as cupcakes and banana bread. There’s comfortable seating(couch, armchairs) as well as free Wi-Fi. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. You’ll often find the owner, Ariell, manning the register or interacting with customers. There are special events taking place here regularly and Sundays at 9pm this is the place to be for new episodes of The Walking Dead. Overall, this is a great place to hang out so bring your @$$!

COOL! We came here on a Saturday night at 5pm with 2 other people. This comic book café is super cool. I think a comic book store and café combo is a genius concept. Their music playlist is awesome – they played mash ups! They also played Closing Time by Semisonic while they were closing up. The baristas seem like cool, down to earth, and fun people. Can we be friends?! Haha IN A NUTSHELL: –Great coffee –Great comic book selections –Beautiful décor and space Space: Large, clean open space with cool superheroes emblem on the small tables. What’s cool is that they have large reserved tables in the back for gamers! We brought the Monopoly Deal card game and played for 3 hours… 3 intense hours. We’re very serious about the game. Wait time: No wait. Plenty of seatings. Service: Quick and friendly. They were very helpful, and told us about the reserved tables for gamers in the back. Parking: Street parking. We had difficulties finding the place at first. There is no entrance at the back or side, even though it has the same number(the door looks like it leads to an apartment complex). The actual entrance is at the storefront on the main road. It’s next to a tattoo shop. WHATWEORDERED: –Matcha Yoda Latte –Latte Both lattes were very good. :) Price: Not more expensive than Starbucks. Overall, this is our favorite spot in Philly! If I lived in Philly, this would be my usual hangout spot. It’s super chill!

So, I absolutely loved it! The décor is on point, with little comic book symbology on the tables and book shelves and posters lining the walls. The staff were super nice too, and it seemed like a chill atmosphere, though my friends and I came close to closing, so there weren’t very many people there. I ordered a ‘Yoda,’ which is a green tea match a latte, sooo good. Until I got to the very bottom and bit into those little grassy chunks of match, which left a bitter taste in my mouth. Despite my matcha mishap, I thoroughly enjoyed this place and my drink. Though, one of my friends, who’s way more of a comic book connoisseur, than I am commented that they don’t have a large enough selection(re: back issues) and that they don’t sell enough geeky gadgets and trinkets. They are new, so hopefully they’ll continue to expand their selection, but also keep in mind that this isn’t primarily a bookstore, it’s a bookstore/café. I’d say to think of it more as great place for meeting and chatting with people who appreciate the same geeky stuff you do. I personally appreciated the diversity of writers and protagonists in the few comics they ordered. Something I found a bit lack luster, though, was the availability of longer graphic novels. All in all though, it was definitely worth the trek from West Philly!

Very friendly staff and cool atmosphere. My latte was just OK, but I can forgive that. The pear muffin I shared with my sis was delicious. I really appreciated the selection and the cool displays here. Can’t wait to come back here some time.

This place is amazing! I love how I saw people of all ages together inside. You can tell it’s set up to be a community space. Also I had the most incredible matcha latte and I’m still dreaming about it.

Best comic store ever. Staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the store gave customers plenty of room to browse the impressive selection. Didn’t have coffee this time, but I will certainly be back.

Visited after hearing about the opening and I was so excited to see all of the comics and all of the people! Seriously, they have all of the comics, mainstream and lesser-known stuff, well-stocked. I’m so happy to see Philly’s huge black nerd community gathering in such a cool space and I very much enjoyed the beverage, comics, and wonderful interiors when I was there. Will go again soon.

I am a nerd. Just not an über-comic book-nerd. I sometimes feel uncomfortable in comic book stores, because I just like what I like, and I’m not super-knowledgeable about everything that’s happening in the comic world. Amalgam took all the fears away. The staff is SO friendly! While I waited in line to pay, a great guy came up to me to talk about two of the comics I was buying, a Star Wars and a Superman/Wonder Woman. He made me feel really special. The space is so inviting! Great tables and comfy chairs where you can enjoy the wonderful selection of coffees, teas, juices, and snacks! It was crowded – which I was really happy to see! There must have been 50 people in the store, some of which were using the reserved gaming tables. Please check this space out. I will definitely be back with my 16 year old daughter, who found 4 comics to buy!

I love this place! I had come in just to grab some coffee and go to work before but today, I took my younger sister Crystal as a late Christmas present. She’s the real geek in the family; I’m just geek adjacent: D. We had a ball. I got turned on to several new comics and I had a great bagel with real butter and delicious coffee. I also took a scrumptious chocolate croissant for my mid-afternoon snack. I also hooked Crystal up with a couple of jazzy t-shirts that display her geekdom for all to see. Lastly, just want to give a shoutout to Isa for hooking us up with the special orders for Niobe! We love this joint!

I drove by this place twice before finding it lol the inside makes up for that. It’s a big inviting space with awesome merch and of course, comics. I found all but two of the DC bombshells series here! The two I’m missing they’re ordering for me top notch customer service! I had a great café au lait and red velvet cupcake that was out of this world! I’ve found my happy place

This place is really amazing! I visited for the first time and got a latte and raspberry walnut muffin, ate it at one of their awesome comic book themed table(mine had the Comedian’s smiley face from the Watchmen) and then perused some comic books! They have a really great selection of single trade issues and I bought a few #1s I had been meaning to read. This place is HUGE and has a good amount of seating. There’s even some tables reserved in the back for gaming(table top, card etc…) My only hope is that they also carry more collected volumes and graphic novels in the future — I just tend to collect those more than the single issues. Looking forward to coming here more!

As if coffee and comics weren’t enough on their own, we loved the space, the vibe, the almond milk for my latte, the comic art on the walls, the sitting area by the window, and the people! All around great time! I hear they’ll be adding a gluten free snack or two at some point as well so that will be a bonus.

I heard from a couple good nerd friends about the opening of a coffee/comic shop around the corner from my house and decided it was in my best interest to stop in and I was absolutely RIGHT. From the street you aren’t ready for the space you walk into! It’s huge! The space is set up perfectly for both a coffee shop and a comic book store and after talking with the staff their plans for the future and bright and awesome(including comic swapping and a kids corner!) The staff was friendly and knew their stuff! I’ve been back already since my first visit ordering a caramel cappuccino both times, which was delicious, and a chocolate chip muffin the first time and a raspberry lemon scone the second. I enjoyed both greatly as I was running my errands in the area and will certainly be back in again the next time I have to step out to run errands around Fishtown!
