I really liked this place: great atmosphere, and I loved the ahi tuna burger. But alas, it’s closed, due to everyone staying home & spending less money.

*Sigh* Isn’t falling in love just, grand. It’s been awhile since I’ve been over the moon about someone, but now that we’ve met and spent an evening together, well, I am a smitten kitten. His name is 707 and wow, is this guy ever suave, tasty, edible and absolutely delicious to look at. Last night he wined and dined me with dishes I am still drooling over and served me libations that well, could make a good girl go bad… and enjoy every hair pulling minute of it, if ya know what I’m sayin’ and I think ya do! ;) Now you’re probably wondering what he looks like, right? I know, it’s totally natural to be soo happy for me and my new love that you want all of the details, so I’ll spill ‘em for ya! For starters, he has the highest ceilings and the most romantic, intimate and flattering lighting around. He’s the perfect blend of modern, classic, hip and cutting edge, but doesn’t try too hard and as a result makes you feel so at home and happy that you never want to leave his side. His walls are a creamy color and his dark brown wood trim, oh my, I have to sit down for a second. Okay, I’m back… Then there’s his dining room area. I have to confess that when we first met, I honestly thought that he would be way too upscale for us to ever get along, but then what did he do? Oh my gosh, he whipped out a totally reasonably priced menu filled with tasty treats, stellar wines and unique creations for me to peruse and order from! Oh, isn’t he just the best! As for what I ordered, oh wow. Again, feeling the need to sit down and twirl my hair a bit in blissful glee, but I will keep going because I’m sure the sexy suspense is killing you. He started me off with one of his amazing pear lemonades at the bar. Talk about a thrill, whoosh, yummy! He then gave me this cute little teensy tiny cup of lobster and mushroom soup that was an awesome way to kick start my palate. From there it was an amorous onslaught of Austrian wine, along with a short rib and gnocchi appetizer that featured a rich orange sauce that was out of this world! There was also the mushroom risotto that made me wee little toes twitch with gluttonous glee. He also served me a plate of pickled shallots, asparagus, radishes, carrots and a few other vegggie yums before he really moved in for the kill. His main dish move was the lamb. Oh my god, that lamb! Oh and who can forget the Black Cod with the bacon to boot. Mmmm, so amazing. But the culinary seduction doesn’t stop there. Next he pulled out all the stops with this deelish funnel cake for dessert along with a 10 yr Tawny Port. Are you joking me?!! Put a ring on my finger NOW!!! At one point, I was so flustered that I had to escape downstairs to the bathrooms and can we just talk about those. The super stylish red tiles in the stalls. The fantastic lighting and even the cool way he arranged the towels! Wow, my parents are going to be so impressed with this new guy! Or will they… You see that’s where the sad part of this story comes in. I live in San Francisco and he lives in Philly. We clearly are soooo into each other, but he is so serious about his career, as am I, that I just don’t think it can ever work. I mean, I would take him and put him in my suitcase right now(although I’d most likely have to check him since he is too big for carry-on), but I have to respect his love for Philly and the fact that he wants to stay here and… see other people. *Sigh* I guess not everything is meant to last, but you can bet your sweet ass that I’m calling this keeper for a booty call next time I’m in Philly, cuz he is H-O-T!

Last night I had the celeb treatment for the first time at a Philadelphia restaurant. My BFF was there on business and kindly brought me along as her +1 so we could experience the talents of the new chef. And wow, I was totally impressed from the minute I stepped into the spacious open bar area. We started our meal with a glass of bubbly at the bar and then moved into the dining room. It was starkly lit, with gorgeous mood lighting. In fact, as we finished our glass of champaign, I joked that I expected to find an engagement ring at the bottom of my glass! The service was impeccable, and we managed to feel completely pampered and well-cared for while still having some privacy and space. That takes talent. The most impressive part of the meal for me was the staff’s knowledge and passion for wine. We ordered seafood appetizers(me: lump crabmeat and leeks and my friend: shrimp) and we were treated to two different whites to taste. Our entrees, which were insanely delicious(me: duck, her: strip steak) were also hand-paired with the appropriate reds. These guys know their grapes, and they know customer service. I especially loved the Palimino… it was a nice, light red that complimented the duck perfectly. The meal was wrapped up with dessert, and I had to try their famous funnel cake. Oh yeah, I said funnel cake. This is worth the trip alone, so don’t miss it. It went perfectly with a sherry and I will be having sweet dreams about this part of the meal for many nights to come. It’s worth a trip here for a special dinner, because the acoustics are great and you can actually carry on a conversation without shouting or hearing every detail from the diners next to you. And the bathrooms are cool, too… I wasn’t a big fan of the oversized photos downstairs but I can overlook that because everything else was so ideal. And, surprisingly enough, they were playing the Pixies at the bar, which would have earned them an extra star if it was humanly possible. I thought it was such an unexpected treat to have excellent music at such an upscale restaurant. Nice touch indeed. If you want to feel A-list, make a reservation at 707. I hadn’t been here before the changes they made, but whatever they’re doing now clearly works.

707 is an attractive venue on Chestnut Street. It features stylish front and rear dining rooms, a central bar with some lounge seating, and a private dining and seating areas downstairs. I took photos here for an ICON Philadelphia( ) happy hour. The specials ICON received were $ 3 beers, $ 5 wine, $ 7 cocktails, and complimentary hors d’aeuvres. Our appetizers included the 707 thin-crust pizzas. Their take on gourmet pizza included a crispy crust, small size, and unusual(but not wildly so) toppings. Unfortunately, the pizzas would disappear as soon as they would arrive. Considering the crowd and the price per drink(our shots had New York City prices: I had three for $ 29!) more should have come out and/or a bit faster. Unsure I’d be so quick to return for a happy hour, as the value isn’t fantastic. On the bright side, I’d like to acknowledge the great attention we received from Renee, Nick, and Justin. Thanks!

Where the hell is my food? I’m still waiting for it! Went here for a work happy hour – my going-away happy hour, to be precise. Good wines by the glass(I loved my rioja), chic décor. A waiter came around with free(and delicious) hors d’oeuvres. I took one and went back to my wine. A co-worker ordered an appetizer for me so that I wouldn’t get too drunk in front of the colleagues. A while later, she left and my food hadn’t arrived. I didn’t want her to pay for food we didn’t get. She said the bill wasn’t too high, so she wasn’t concerned. I went back to socializing. Another friend ordered something for us to share. We waited. Again, it never came. We finally left and went to Fergie’s on the way home to get food. Not only did it actually materialize in a timely fashion, but we enjoyed it.

First, this place is a great place to order the comfort food you find on the menu. pigs in a blanket, the yummy grilled cheese on sourdough with carmelized onions(!!!) the funnel cake for desert, .they also give you a free appetizer of seared tuna on mini toasts. also good. The décor is great, very shi-shi…the pear lemonade vodka drink was excellent too… There are unisex bathrooms… BUT, it’s kinda out of the way and not too expensive so for gourmet, and a nice night out try somewhere else.

i give this place 5 stars for décor, 2 stars for location, 3.5 stars for food. it’s freaking gorgeous. the dark wood, the large bar, the chandeliers… the gorgeous red tiled walls of the bathroom… love it all. the food? it’s ok. a bit on the pricey side for what you get, but decent. the standout for me was the warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. beyond tasty.(i’m a sucker for desserts, as simple and plain as that.) drinks were on the pricey side of things… $ 10 for their signature cocktails(pretty good)… but…where do you go after 707? it’s right in the middle of nowhere. it took too much motivation to go out afterwards… so instead i came home.

Everything on the menu was delicious. The reuben spring rolls were unique and tastey. I loved the crab cakes and it was just the right amount of food. And the presentation of the food was fun and pretty :) The atmosophere was great for groups and there is plenty of seating in the bar area. The ambience is stylish and sleek without being stuffy. The unisex bathroom was the best part! UM… I think I loved my experience here!

This restaurant is still new but that doesn’t stop the food from being good! The appetizers are delicious. Especially the Spring rolls and the Honey Wings. The first time I visited, my sandwich was good but the bread was way too crusty. And by too crusty I mean I could hardly bite through the crust! The second time, the crust wasn’t as hard and I could enjoy my sandwich without injuring my jaw. I also recommend the toasted pound cake. The toasted ness goes well with the side of ice cream. In addition, the atmosphere is a delight, very relaxing. And the paintings are amazing. This new restaurant is pretty good so when you are in Old City, give it a try!

707 is a well laid out location. Besides a very inviting front open air area in front, the real standouts are the bar area and the private dining area. The bar shines with massive circular lanterns that really build atmosphere. If you head down to the bathrooms and private dining, a soft colored mini lounge awaits with a lone portrait that works well with the aesthetic. Beyond the glass doors past the bathroom brings you to a well laid out space adorned by sparkling chandeliers.
