I’ve been a patient in this office for several years. Although I’m not ever thrilled to be in a dentist’s chair, everything I’ve experienced has been completely satisfactory. Dr. Martella is very professional and has a great sense of humor. The dental hygienist is a perfectionist and I’ve been flossing more due to her insistence that I do so. A few years ago, I had a root canal and all went well. It was very painful, but — hey — it was a root canal. I highly recommend Dr. Martella’s office.

After living in Ferndale for a couple of years, I had gotten sick of driving to my old dentist. I thought I’d see if I could find a local dentist who would do the trick. This place was a mistake. I’ve got to say– that it’s not all bad. I found the hygienists to be friendly and helpful — and they did not hurt me. The space is nice enough, it wasn’t dirty or anything like that. The negative part of my review is aimed at the dentist himself. I understand that everyone’s out to make a buck — but I really don’t want unnecessary procedures done just to make someone else richer. As this was my first appointment at this dentist — they made me go through the whole x-ray process and all of that jazz. As a result of my cleaning they discovered a cavity –shock and dismay. When Dr. Martella came in for his consultation, in addition to mentioning said cavity, he said that my one tooth was turning and that it could jack up my whole grill if we didn’t do something about it. Now let me first say — how do you know that it’s turning if you’ve never seen my teeth before? Perhaps it has always been at said angle(and in fact, it has). He started talking about cosmetic bonding and blah blah blah — and I said that I wasn’t really interested but inquired about the price. Of course no one there could tell me what it would cost — so I said forget it, made my appointment for my filling. Fast forward to a week later when I return for my filling — it seems to me that they are doing some weird prep nonsense that I’ve never gone through for a filling before. So I have to half-bite the dentist’s hands to ask what he’s doing — and he says, «Oh, we’re just going to take care of that bonding for you.» What? I don’t want my teeth bonded! Needless to say, when I informed him that I did not want that done– I got more than a little attitude. I also got the highest dental bill I have EVER received in the mail a few weeks later. In closing — perhaps I should have just sucked it up and continued doing the drive to Warren. Do not«upsell» me on my dental needs. Thanks.
