Sometimes we go play tourist not very far from our Garberville stomping ground. And last Thursday we decided to play hookey from bookselling(sorry, book customers, I hope you found something in the little free shed on our porch) and go to Ferndale and other points north. When you play tourist, of course you have to stop in as many little shops as possible. And in all fairness, you need, if possible, to buy some nice trinket that proves touristing has made you lose your mind. Got the scenario? So here is this teeny tiny little bit of a shop featuring candles and honey and only candles and honey. And the scent of beeswax, which is surely one of the nicest smells on the planet. I would have bought honey, but I happen to have several jars of various local honeys in my pantry. Also I have ants who are extremely fond of local honey. So I gazed fondly at the candles and sniffed them. Really, I think there is a candle for every possible scenario at this shop, and they are local. Beautiful flower embossed candles, candles shaped like frogs, bunnies, etc. Round candles and square ones and tall ones and little ones. My partner gazed at the frogs. He likes frogs a lot. I told him maybe for Christmas he will get a frog candle, but I chose a very delightful pig. The shop owner told me that her husband had designed the mold for the piggie. I mean, how can you go wrong with a locally designed and produced pig candle?

Update: 12÷16÷14 *Closed* Wandering down main street I knew I needed to stop into this wonderful candle store. Since I’m originally from Ferndale, my mother and childhood me knew the family who owns the store and as we still have several of their candles in our Christmas decorations every year I stopped in to see if I couldn’t find something to give my mother for the upcoming holiday. I adore the smell of this shop. Beeswax and stone, a wonderful combination. Their candles are sweet(many are in shapes such as bees, hives, pine cones, flowers) and wonderfully priced. The honey ended up falling for the sand covered candles with driftwood which will now reside somewhere in his living room. Service was fabulous, and I’d come back again any time for their unique and gorgeous beeswax candles.
