This place is a couple miles away from my home. I usually drive to the city to get some good sushi but I decided to try this place out for the first time. It is fantastic. Quiet atmosphere, perfect for those who would like to dine by themselves. The sushi was great. I feel as if the rolls were quite bigger than ones you’d normally get from places like Drunken Fish so that is a plus. Great selection to choose from. I’m going to come here more often.

I love their lunch specials and half price sushi happy hour during the week day! Very friendly staff, fresh sushi, and fast service. It’s s nice quiet place and relaxing. My favorites are the tiger roll and beautiful Alaska. They also have hibachi and that is also really good. Great sushi and hibachi 5 stars from me.

I’ve driven by this place over 300 hundred times and never noticed it. I’m not sure why I did notice the place today. The outside of this place is so unassuming. The inside is beautiful & cozy and quiet great place to relax atmosphere wise. I bet you are thinking I don’t care about that hows the food? Well… Its better than buffet sushi! Is it great sushi not really. The strange thing is I ordered 3 different rolls and they nearly tasted the same. Nothing stood out good or really bad. My waiters had a thick accent and I think she told me that near closing time they cut prices 25% on the rolls. I’m not sure if thats a certain day. I might give them another try during discount hours.

Salad was great… Everything else was terrible… And they didn’t have the first two items I ordered. Won’t be going back

Uh… ok. Some of the reviews here nailed it. Bizarro sushi experience. Place is clean and nice on the inside. The sushi is average at best. The Spider Roll was super funky. Not sure where the soft shell crab came from but it was weird. Expectations were pretty low going in so it kinda worked out anyway.

Sushi was good, but mediocre. We went for lunch one day and were the only customers in the restaurant. There was our waitress and the sushi chef, plus who I assume was the owner’s child in the restaurant who was pleasantly occupied with whatever cartoon was on tv. Now, I don’t mind if it’s slow in a restaurant and there isn’t too much to do apart from the one table you are servicing, so socializing and/or eating lunch is completely understandable. But… to sit out in the restaurant, after we had just received our sushi and were currently eating, to clip your nails is in no way, shape, or form acceptable in any food service business. As soon as I recognized what that noise was, I lost my appetite. She could have at least waited until no customers were in the restaurant! Because of that, I don’t think I could give more than two stars for that visit.

This was probably the strangest dining experience I have ever had in my entire life. I will start by saying that the food itself was not terrible, it was not nearly as good as other sushi in the area, but it was fine. The fun started when our server came over and took our drink order, the water and tea came out fine, but we were missing our glass of wine. Why do you ask? Well because the corkscrew was missing«and the last time they tried to open a bottle with a knife it didn’t end well.» Once the wine made it to the table we had to inform them that sauvignon blanc was a white wine, not red. They apologized and returned with our correct wine and told us to keep the red one as well. We thought this was a nice gesture until the bill came and they charged us for both glasses. Next we ordered our sushi and waited for it to come out. When it made it to the table the servers spent a little more time than normal trying to figure out what roll was what. They eventually figured it out because my roll had«sketchy» things coming out of the sides of it that the servers said they wouldn’t eat. Appetizing. After our food was about finished we then heard that the food was loaded with msg. Wonderful. I’ll say the best part of the meal was the owners kid that kept coming over to us to say hi. She was nice. She told us thank you and bye bye when we left which was more than the owners did. Needless to say unless I’m in the mood for an adventure I doubt I’ll be back.

I had a very odd dining experience here tonight. We(party of 2) arrived around 7pm and found we were the only ones in the restaurant. There was a lady(owner?) towards the back of the restaurant with her head on the table sleeping. The waitress seated us near the sushi bar but the sushi chef didn’t say a word or make eye contact. I am used to the«Irashai» comment which is Japanese for welcome. You think they’d be happy we were there given that there were no other patrons in the place. The menu is standard fare found in most sushi bars around the country. I ordered a spicy tuna hand roll and a few other items. When the order arrived I inquired where my hand roll was. The waitress was a bit flustered and confused and pointed to the standard roll already on the tray. I had to hand her the little example placard with a photo of a spicy tuna hand roll to get my point across. When it arrived it was the same filling as the roll we had already gotten wrapped in nori. No onions, no nothing. That was NOT a spicy tuna hand roll! How does a «sushi» bar not know hot to make one of the most basic items you can order? I have eaten at sushi restaurants all over the world and this was the first time EVER that a server did not know what a hand roll was. The food we got wasn’t terrible, and we didn’t get sick, but given the totally amateur service, the sleeping lady, the bizarre Chinese(not Japanese) music playing at loud volumes and the lack of attention or acknowledgement from the chef(owner?) there is absolutely no way I’d ever go back.

I had low expectations given this was in rural Missouri but I was very pleasantly surprised. Service was attentive and polite. I ordered the Kani, Masago, ebi, scallop and today’s special: the caterpillar roll. Typically when I hear caterpillar roll I think eel, avocado, soft shell crab. This one was filled with shrimp tempura and cream cheese and topped with avocado, tuna, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. Usually not a cream cheese fan but I liked this. I would change the proportion of rice to fish but again, pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be back on another night where I don’t want to venture to far from home.

Thank you to a friend who recommended Kyoto Sushi. It was excellent! Ordered a bento dinner box — don(pork) katsu, shrimp and vegetable tempura, California roll. Godzila Roll was incredible, also the Tiger and Black Dragon roll. Friend had the red clam sushi and said he doesn’t usually see it elsewhere.

LOVELOVELOVE this place. So much so that now I’m super picky about my sushi & expect it to live up to Kyoto sushi. They always have specials & during lunch hours they offer ½ off most sushi rolls. The philly roll is my fav. Their beef fried rice is to die for & their crab Rangoon is fried in a thin wonton wrap with a sweet smooth cream cheese. The staff is always very friendly & they are really good at remembering faces which for me is a big plus.

We stopped in for some quick sushi on a Sunday evening. While I didn’t expect it to be busy, there was only 1 other table in the restaurant. Also, note that I have nothing against dining with children, but a staff member’s child was there the entire time running around and being quite loud and crying at times. This made us uncomfortable especially since we were the only ones there towards the end of our meal. Due to this we wanted to hurry up and get out of there! The place also had a strange smell that was not pleasant by any means. Overall the place was clean and the staff was friendly, but the sushi was not good. I ALWAYS eat all my sushi and I left almost a whole roll on my plate as I just was not feelin it. The boston roll was the best of them all, but needed to be cut in smaller portions as I almost choked on it. Being a sushi restaurant in Fenton with no frills I also expected the prices to be cheaper. Due to the price and sub par sushi quality I don’t plan to be back.

I was pleasantly surprised by this small sushi joint! My boyfriend had been there before and from the outside the place looks pretty janky and ghetto, but their food and speed of service proved my judgments wrong! We stopped in for lunch and their lunch specials are pretty legit. I got the four Nigiri and one roll combo which is only $ 10. They even let me substitute the generic California Roll with a Salmon and Avocado roll as well as my Shrimp Nigiri with a Hamachi piece! Not quite sure if they charged extra since I didn’t front the bill(haha). The lunch specials come with either miso soup or salad with ginger or ranch dressing. Boyfriend had the three roll combo including an Eel and Cucumber roll, Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll, and a Tuna and Avocado Roll which was also super affordable. The sushi comes out at record speed. There were about four or five other tables there, half of which I guess were already done eating so I guess that could’ve been the reasoning of the ninja speed sushi-making. My Nigiri was fantastic! Great cuts of fish that were fresh and a great texture. I like my fish a little cooler, but I think it just depends on the restaurant. The Salmon and Avocado Roll was spot on, the rolls aren’t huge but it’s a simple maki roll so you get what you order. The salmon to avocado to rice ratio was perfect though! Boyfriend also enjoyed all his rolls, and I have to add that the Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll is really yummy! Overall, I would give this 4.5 stars but that’s not an option so I would take the 0.5 star away just because the place looks super shady from the outside and the staff wasn’t personable. Seems like it would be an awesome place to stop in real quick for a lunch break as it is very quiet and you could probably get work done at the same time!

I don’t know whose idea it was to put a nice Japanese restaurant in Old Town Fenton, but i couldn’t be more thankful. Happy Hour twice a day(that’s half-price sushi, my friends) means you can have a proper sushi lunch for under $ 10. The have a wide(but not overwhelmingly large) selection of sushi that ranges from simple half-rolls(starting at $ 4) all the way up to the sky with their special rolls. The place is casual, but quiet, and usually has pretty good service. And less than five minutes from my house. Booyah.

I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided to have lunch at a sushi place in the middle of Fenton. I think I was seduced by the glowing Unilocal reviews. I ignored the fact that Fenton is not exactly a hotspot for diverse eats(like, say, South Grand) and headed there during my lunch break. The place is in a tiny little strip mall on Gravois. I walked in and wasn’t surprised that I was the only customer there. I grabbed a seat and was handed a menu, which I casually flipped through. The waitress was super attentive to the point of being downright annoying. I’m assuming it’s because I was the only person there, but it was weird and it made me uncomfortable. «Are you ready to order?» she said, not even 5 minutes after I received my menu. «I’m still looking, but thanks!» I answered. Not even two minutes later, she came back with the same question. Yikes. She then proceeded to flip my menu to the lunch specials page, point to the sushi + sashimi combo, and utter, «It’s goooood». I smiled and asked for a few more minutes to look at the menu. Kyoto has a ton of specialty rolls, but no descriptions for any of them, which made it difficult to choose. After the waitress came back, not even a minute later, I gave up and chose the sushi + sashimi combo. She ran off and then returned with a bowl of miso soup and crab rangoons. «It’s gooood!» she said, again. I agree. They were both delicious. My sushi + sashimi combo plate came out shortly after. What a speedy sushi chef! It came with a lot of food; a few pieces of nigiri, some pieces of sashimi, and a California roll. The quality of the fish was just okay. It was WAY better than Drunken Fish(the worst of the worst), but it was nowhere near the quality of Kampai or even Wasabi. The sashimi was sliced too thick, and the texture was all wrong. I put a piece in my mouth, and it had a rubbery weird consistency that freaked me out. Sashimi is supposed to be so tender it practically melts in your mouth. This was NOT. After that unpleasant experience, I started getting really paranoid about the possibility of food poisoning, and with a 22 mile run on the agenda for the next morning, that just wasn’t going to fly. I had finished about half of my meal at that point, and I had to end it there. I felt terrible, because I never leave leftovers at a sushi place(I’m pretty sure that’s an insult to the sushi chef), but I didn’t want to risk it. Luckily, this experience didn’t make me sick, but I’m pretty sure I’ll never be back to Kyoto. The quality of the fish just isn’t there.

Headed to Kyoto for an «OMG, I’m so hungry and I want sushi» late night feast. Got there around 9:45pm and there was just 2 other people in the restaurant. Waitstaff was super attentive, and immediately took my drink order and gave me some complimentary appetizer bites(crab rangoon and chicken wing). I ordered Maki Combo C(spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy salmon), philly roll, alaska roll, and white tuna roll.(8 pieces each) Sushi came out fast(about 10 mins) but was nicely prepared. Could have used some more heat on the spicy rolls, but I made up for that with wasabi. I can’t believe I ate all 48 pieces! Fish was tasty… rice could have been a tad fresher. All and all… a good meal at Kyoto!

Aww YEAAH! Sushi… GOOD sushi, in Fenton of all places! No more driving to Clayton or in the city and no more going to Dierbergs(yes I’m guilty damnit). On a cold winter’s day, I drove by Kyoto Sushi & Grill when they were barely moving in and I almost peed in my pants out of excitement. Going in you’ll notice the warm and welcoming décor. They have both tables and booths and — you guessed it, a sushi bar. I had one of their special rolls, the Volcano, that had jalapeño, asparagus, and tuna inside, topped with spicy tuna. I also ordered a couple of handrolls. I wish I came on a more empty stomach… I could have ordered for 3. Prices are ehhh, could be better, but I’d rather pay that than waste money on ridiculously priced gas. Kyoto, you’ll soon see this face more often :)
