Staff are full of information. You can get recommendations on cool hikes and the best local trail maps, hiking and climbing gear. They have really cool obscure items/​clothing that you don’t see anywhere else. They were recommended by my colleague on the west coast for their hiking shoe selection (those are upstairs). I was shocked by how many unique finds they had in a small shop. No wonder they have been in the area for over 20 years. Worth the stop if your downtown Fayetteville.

An excellent outfitter with an emphasis on rock climbing, they have a great selection of climbing shoes, rope, and other needs plus enough diversity of chalk to satisfy even the most finicky climber. The owner whom I spoke with was very knowledgeable and I got the impression most if not all the staff climb. They also have a good selection of camping gear, tents, and clothing including outdoor clothing by The North Face, Black Diamond, and other leading brands. Also a very comprehensive selection of books on climbing. Very cool store.

This place… I can’t say enough good things about it! I took my first trip to NRG this spring and wandered in to Water Stone looking for some local advice. All of the staff were friendly and very knowledgeable — it was awesome that all the ones I talked to were climbers themselves, and were happy to give out directions and route recommendations. The selection of gear is really excellent, the location is convenient, and the store’s atmosphere is really chill and personal. Hands down my favorite gear shop that I’ve ever visited. I just wish it was closer to home :) So good.

I love supporting local gear shops… and I can say this place is phenomenal. My first trip to Fayetteville /​New River Gorge, was unexpectedly warm, and I was going through clothing too quickly! I was lucky enough to catch them 2 minutes before closing, and of course the employees let me shop around a bit. So nice of them to let me stop by, and pick out what I needed!
