My father came during acute liver failure and the way Dr. Slehria dealt with him was completely unacceptable. Rather than offer any compassion, or proper care, he basically scolded him for getting sick, and told him point blank he should prepare to die. My uncle who is also a doctor(in another state) disagreed with the Dr’s prognosis, and told us to get my father to the hospital right away. He is doing much better now, and has the strength to take on his issue. While I understand that there are medical realities, I don’t think it’s ever a doctor’s place to take away someone’s hope and berate them when they are suffering. While people may judge those in liver failure because they should have known better than to be alcoholic, Aren’t we all aware, ESPECIALLYDOCTORS that alcoholism is also a complicated disease, and that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity? We have moved his care to another facility where the doctor is more interested in learning about who he is a person, and treating him with compassion and respect, and about coming up with a realistic treatment plan. I will say that the phlebotomist in the office was awesome! I would discourage anyone who wants a caring, attentive, and holistic care from using this center for their healthcare.

This place is a complete joke! I suffer from a digestive disease. Was referred here by another physician. Met with the doctor once and was told to call the next time I had an issue so that I could be sent for a CT. Had a flare up, called and all they did was call me in an antibiotic. Next flare up, called and was scheduled for a CT. The morning of my appointment I drank the contrast and then was called by the imaging center who informed me that their CT machine wasn’t working and they would not be able to do the IV contrast. I could still however come in for the CT without IV contrast. When I arrived, I was told CT machine was now completely down and I would have to reschedule! They tried to refer me somewhere else but said it would take a few hours and I had to pick up my daughter from after school care and did not have a few hours to wait. I left with a rescheduled appointment in 2 days. By the day of my appointment, I was no longer having symptoms and since the doctor himself had told me that it was useless to get a CT without symptoms present, I canceled the appointment with both the imaging center and with Cape Fear Center of Digestive Diseases. About a week later, I received a certified letter in the mail from the Cape Fear Center of Digestive Diseases, informing me that they would no longer provide me with medical care due to my «failure» to comply with their treatment plan! I was furious! I had NOT failed at anything! I immediately called and spoke with someone who stated she would check into the situation and call me back. About 45 minutes later, the«Practice Administrator» called me, with a less than professional tone of voice and also began accusing me of failing to comply. She stated that the imaging center could have done my CT, which was untrue! She then said«well u REFUSED to go to High Smith as well». I told her that was due to child care issues but she couldn’t of cared any less. I will take my little digestive disease to another facility who actually cares about their patients and doesn’t write them off without even calling to learn the facts first! Unprofessional, unacceptable and a down right rude«Practice Administrator»! The ONLY reason I gave them 1 star is because Unilocal would not let me continue without one!
