Beyond Salon

I told the stylist that the idea is to grow out my wavy, frizzy hair for ease. I asked to just trim it and layer. 4″ off later and a mullet, I have to fix it. Unfortunately, I’ve got not much length to work with now.
I’m a professional stylist myself, so I can make most mistakes/​uneven situations work. There’s nothing I can do to make this haircut look decent, except for pulling it up.
I called the salon back and told them that I need it fixed, unfortunately the hours don’t work with my hrs and I’m honestly afraid to have the stylist take scissors to it again.
I’m disappointed about a few things: the hack job, lack of responsibility on the stylist and the owners part. In any salon I’ve worked, if there’s an unhappy customer, the stylist would be notified and has to rectify the situation. I received no call back, if you’re going to price your salon at mid to high range, I suggest customer service training.

I’m constantly getting compliments on my cuts from Kelley! She is a true artist and I love how she makes my color look so natural! She nails it every time!

Beyond is a high end salon without the high end prices or pretention. The entire staff is wonderful. Russ does a fab job with brows and waxing, Lindsey at the front desk never forgets a name or when your next appointment is. Stacey is awesome with color and cut. But you can’t go wrong no matter who you get. I leave there feeling relaxed and beautiful. The salon is immaculate and there is always some new item to catch your eye.

I have been going to beyond since it opened! Lisa knows just what to do with my curly hair, but I trust all the stylists to cut my hair as well. Every time I go to the salon, I leave feeling relaxed and looking great for whatever is happening the rest of the day.

Love Beyond! Stephanie is the best… great cuts and color and she’s HONEST about what will look good and what won’t. Nice salon with a comfortable atmosphere.

I love going to beyond! I never feel as if I have to get «made up» to get made up… It’s a very relaxing atmosphere.
This salon is ALWAYS clean, the staff is extremely professional, and everyone I see walking out of there, walks out looking phenomenal.
The product they have offered on the shelves are top notch products, and they use the same products on you while you are getting washed, and pre/​post blowdry.
The receptionist always makes it easy to schedule and appointment and are always very nice and courteous.
Now, I use Stephanie as my go-​to girl for my hair. I trust lots of people with my hair because I feel it will always grow, a cut can always be fixed, and color can always be changed. However, since I started going to Stephanie about 3 years ago (I’ve never tried anyone else at Beyond), I haven’t strayed from her since… which is something that I used to do on a regular basis… Even if I have to wait for an appointment, I wait, because I know I get great results from her.
On another note: they hang your coat for you in the coat closet, they ask a million times if they can get me anything (coffee, tea, water, wine), and always offer a magazine to read. They are so wonderful here. I can’t say enough good things!

I have been having my hair cut by the same person for a few years now & she recently moved to Ann Arbor which is way too far for me to drive so I decided to find something closer to home & after reading the reviews on Unilocal I chose Beyond.
My stylist was Jamie & her consultation was very good, she asked me all the right questions & gave me a great shampoo & haircut. The girl at the front desk was very friendly & offered me a beverage when I came in… it was such a hot day I was thrilled when she asked if I would like an ice tea! I didn’t wait any more than 5 minutes for Jamie which was nice & they have a nice waiting area which is a plus… I’ve waited in some places that feel like Secretary of State with folding chairs & that’s it & this is nothing like that.
After telling Jamie about some of the issues I’ve had with other stylists & that some of my friends still see those stylists she gave me some $ 10 off coupons for my friends which I thought was super nice. I also had an email waiting for me when I got home for money off a future haircut which I thought was very generous. Their prices are a lot more than what I had been paying (haircuts are so cheap when your friend is your stylist) but are also much less than what I have paid in the past as well. I will definitely be going back to Jamie again in the future but in true fashion you know I have at least one complaint.
The complaint is that you can’t put your tip on your card & thankfully I had some cash on me that I was intending to use for gas or she wouldn’t have received a tip at all because 9 out of 10 times I don’t have a single dollar on me. *update* I found out today that if you run your card as debit you can leave the tip on the card but you have to tell them before they run it.
Parking is in the public lot in rear that is accessible from Farmington or from Grand River.

I really like getting my hair done with Brenda. Basically she really listens to what you want, makes suggestion regarding what she thinks would be better and executes exactly what was agreed (it does not matter if we are following her opinion or not).
It is hard to find someone who holds both those characteristics, the willingness to do what you request and at the same time post GOOD suggestions to change what you requested (humble enough to accept a no, if the suggestion does not match what you desire).
But do follow her suggestions, in general they are good and based on what you said you would like.
Price is super fair.

Their waxing services are great, it’s a clean place and the staff are pretty nice. Never got a haircut here but that’s for another reason

Beyond Salon was a great setting for having the bridal party’s hair and my makeup done. They’re right in downtown Farmington, conveniently located near Starbucks and other small shops. I picked them because I had had good experiences with haircuts when I lived in the area before and though it would be a fun spot for the wedding party, too. They were able to secure a team of stylists to help ensure we could get in and out on time, and they created a fun and lively vibe for all of the girls. Heather and Lydia at the front desk were so helpful in planning and scheduling along the way.
Kelly, the lead stylist, took her time to work with me to understand what kind of style I wanted and how it would work best with my hair. She tried a couple of different things during the trial to determine what would work best. She also checked in with me at multiple points to make sure it was what I wanted, made adjustments as needed. I really appreciated when she asked: «Does it look like YOU?» That really helped me and I could tell she wanted an honest answer. We decided to add a flower, which I wasn’t originally planning on but worked out great. My hair for the wedding was perfect — stayed put and looked great the whole night.
Ilse, the makeup artist was also fantastic. She was fun to work with and helped take a person who doesn’t wear much makeup and get just the right amount so that it looked dressy, classy and good for photos without being overdone. She really understood the «natural look» and made me feel beautiful. The makeup was VERY durable and I was confident that despite tears of joy it wouldn’t run, smear, etc. I had many compliments on the makeup and would definitely go back to her in the future. Ilse also gave me some good skin care and makeup application tips along the way, and kept me relaxed and laughing on the big day.

Stacey is so great! I love my hair every time I leave. Everyone there is very nice and friendly. They do have some jewelry and what-​not in the front to browse though while you wait. (which isnt long) I would recommend Stacey to anyone!
