Last Saturday, I went to Bear in Boots for the first time with 10 of my friends and family for my sister-in-law’s bachelorette dinner. We made a reservation earlier that week and were given a great table, close to the open kitchen, and just far enough away from the live music so that we could still listen but also enjoy each other’s company. Now for the food and drinks: the beer and wine list is extensive, and everyone found something they liked. None of us ordered mixed drinks, though, as the prices were a bit high(anywhere from $ 12 to $ 17). The service was very prompt and friendly. We started with a couple of orders of Poutine for the table, and everyone loved them. We also enjoyed the sweet potato bread they brought out — delicious! For our meals, our table ordered a wide range of entrees: chorizo avocado & shrimp pizza, chipotle enchiladas, The Daily Smoke, house made pasta bolognese, and gnocchi. Everything came out in big portions, we were so impressed with the quality of food since each dish was so different from the next. Thank you to the bartenders for even bringing us a complimentary proseco cocktail as we finished our meal, to celebrate the bride-to-be! I highly recommend this restaurant to groups, but definitely make a reservation ahead of time, as it is on the smaller size.

Very difficult to write these comments, but it is the facts as we experienced them: The Food was the main reason for this rating. The atmosphere is quite nice. Decent size restaurant with multiple tables and some bar space. The open kitchen and elevated music area is a pleasant surprise. There are several staples on the menu. This review is for a few of them, and I DONOT recommend them. So try this place out, but avoid these negative dishes below. The Gnocchi dish was either undercooked or prepared poorly. First, the chicken was tough and tasted like it was from a fast-food casual place(like Panera, etc). It was not really what the menu described it as. The gnocchi was very heavy and chewy. Yes, odd! For a homemade past, I expected much more. The pesto sauce was average at best and the 4 to 5 cherry tomatoes did not really have the«scorched» taste as stated on the menu. The majority of the dish was luke-warm to cold, while the tomatoes kept their heat, so maybe that is why they were named. The Sous Vide Fried Chicken was zero stars. Yes, you read correctly. The sides were dismal at best and resembled a Kentucky Fried Chicken on a bad day. The mashed potatoes were not real… if they were, you need to buy better potatoes. The vegetable was also blah… interesting … but not good. As for the chicken: way too much breading, and while I like a buttermilk soaked chicken, that is all that I tasted. As for the meat on the chicken, I could only think of «where’s the beef» commercials. For the price, I expect a better quality cut of chicken. The homemade bread was the star, but I expected the entrees to be be much, much better. I do not believe the dishes above work nor did they execute. If Gordon Ramsey was here, I probably would have heard lots of curse words and dishes being smashed.

Extremely tasty spot nestled on Main Street! So many great homemade touches, including the sourdough bread fresh from the oven and handchurned butter. The options for entrées was fantastic, including weekly rotational foody options for the more adventurous. I highly recommend the sous vide fried chicken; a filling portion of perfectly crafted buttermilk chicken paired with fresh mashed potatoes and grilled corn. Definitely hope to return!

This place overall is very good. Great beers. Excellent home made bread. The octopus was excellent and the enchilada was good. The fish tacos were good although not very flavorful.

Really good breakfast. Leisurely breakfast, high quality food. The taste of beignets at the start was great. And the accordion player added a great touch of entertainment to our brunch.

My boyfriend and I really wanted to like this place, but I have to give it 2 stars. We came in after 9 and they were closing at 10, we could tell our waitress was in a rush for us to order although the restaurant was about half full. We ordered the Poutine which was my favorite dish, no complaints there. I ordered the salmon with risoto and my boyfriend had the fried chicken. Both dishes were underwhelming and under seasoned. Very bland, disappointing, but pricey. If you are just visiting falmoth, I would skip it. If you do go, try the poutine.

I went there about a month ago with friends and my boyfriend. The drinks were good along with the performer. Other than that my entrée came out with my friends’ appetizers. The steak was cooked well done when ordered medium rare. The second time we came back to give it a second chance, we went for just drinks. The bar was full besides two chairs that were sitting far apart from each other(there was 5 of us) so we asked for a high top since the restaurant was 30% full. We were told we couldn’t sit there if we weren’t ordering food so we left.

For our 28th anniversary we decided to check out Cape Cod, since I was traveling to Boston anyway. While the weather didn’t cooperate, on this wet and windy night we happened upon Bear and Boots Gastropub on Main Street. We were one of two parties in the restaurant to start, but by the end of the night, the place was full and after dinner we understood why. They are true to their motto of «made from scratch» even down to the butter which was delicious. I had the Long Island Meatballs appetizer and my wife had the grilled Caesar salad to start. I am a meat lover and would stack their meatballs up against anybody’s! It was the perfect combination of meat, sauce and mozzarella, yum. My wife who normally won’t touch croutons was reluctant to share as the homemade croutons were so good. After arm wrestling over the croutons, we moved onto the main course, which we split. We had the Daily Smoke special, which sounds pretty pedestrian in writing, but was outstanding in taste. That evening’s Daily Smoke was a smoked NY sirloin with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Doesn’t sound like an adventure, but the smokey flavor of the steak was truly intriguing and we loved the homemade mashed potatoes. My wife said it was one of the best meals she’s ever had… that’s saying something given that she’s a total foodie. We rarely go for dessert, but this night, they had pineapple upside down cake, which my wife really wanted to get. In a truly ironic twist, the cake came out and looked like a yellow breast(see picture) and we were told that all the proceeds were going to the Boston Cancer Society to fight breast cancer. The irony is that my wife, a very tough cookie, is 2 ½ years post Chemo/Rad/Mastectomy. Now I don’t normally like pineapple and was fine with my wife indulging with the dessert, since I’d managed to beat her to most of that fabulous steak(Sorry!). However, after she let me taste the cake, the arm wrestling ensued once again because the cake was really good and a perfect ending to one of the best dinners we’ve had in a long time. I think I should mention service and ambiance, since some other reviewers seem to not had the luck we had. Our servers were fantastic and the chef(Joseph) even came out and chatted with us about lobstah. For a Gastropub, the ambiance was chill and the place has a really cozy feel. The only compliant I could give was the cold air coming in whenever the front door opened, but who knew that it could be 45 degrees on Cape Cod in May! Everyone was attentive and nice spending time chatting with us even at the end of the evening when things got busy. Overall, I’d recommend the Bear in Boots to anyone looking for a great gastric experience!

On a cold and rain, Saturday in April we showed up on time for our 5:00 reservations. They didn’t unlock the doors till 5:10. Then instead of opening the door for the people waiting outside they just walked away. It took 20 mins just to order drinks even though we were the first to walk in the door. We never received the complementary bread and butter. I must say the Poutine was out of this world burnt pork chop was over cooked, dry and cold as were the cauliflower. My husband ordered the fish tacos and the rice was undercooked and again, cold. We had high hopes for dessert but the peach whiskey cake was dry. I eventually poured my glass of whiskey on it(which took 20 mins because they had to get it out of the basement) and we slathered some peach jam we bought at a local French bakery. MUCHBETTER! We ended up leaving at 7:00. Very disappointed for the $$$ spent. We will try to come back for bar seats but they seem to save those for the locals.

We had a few minor hiccups with our reservations. Our 7 o’clock reservation was over booked. Kate(hostess) was very accommodating. She made room at the bar for us, and took care of everything. When we were seated, Lisa was amazing! Kate came over a few times to make sure we were having a great meal! Overall, great meal and amazing service! Thank you again!

Don’t let the funny name or quirky logo fool ya, a play on the children’s nicknames — Bear in Boots does it right. After a day of adventuring, we made our way to Bear in Boots right before the dinner rush. Upon first glance, impressions are great. Bar and restaurant are simple, cozy and straight to the point. We were lucky enough to be seated at the«Chef’s Table». If you get the chance, do it, it was an awesome experience! Everything is farm to table. Knowing how tough that is in New England, I gotta give it to these guys — they do a great job at making it happen. Did I mention everything is made in-house too? The sausages, pasta, bread, ice cream and sauces — all on-premise! We started things off with the pesto gnocchi. Rich with flavor it was a delicious small plate to share. Wanting to try a bit of everything, my girlfriend and I felt like getting in on some«surf-n-turf» action so we split the burger and dogfish tacos. The burger was alright but I think we would’ve opted for the steak tips next time around, and the tacos were tasty but a bit too crispy. Finally, we happily finished the night out with a really decadent chocolate mousse cake. On a Saturday night, there was a live guitarist too which was a nice touch. Altogether, just about everything at the Bear was a fantastic experience. Falmouth is a really cute town, and I can see why it’s becoming more food-centric with places like Bear in Boots.

My group of 3 came for brunch this morning and we were thoroughly impressed! The apple pie pancakes were fruity and nutty, balanced with sweet mascarpone cheese, and the home fries were hearty with homemade ketchup! My friends had the crab benedict and the biscuits and gravy and similarly had rave reviews. Couple with friendly service and very reasonable prices and I will be back when I return to Falmouth. While brunch was almost empty, it seems like they are primarily known as a tavern. This gem will not remain hidden for long.

I really wanted to give this place a higher rating as we were all very excited to try this place, but out of my party of ten only 5 fully enjoyed their meal. Atmosphere wise, it is very nice! There’s a nice ambience and the menus had corkboard covers, and the service was attentive and fast(even though our waitress rarely smiled, handed us dessert menus without asking, and took an extremely long time getting our party the check). There was also someone singing on the second floor and really added to the setting. We recieved our appetizers, poutine and the table pretzel which were both pretty good. However, the entrée food was not seasoned well. The shepards pie that one of my friends recieved literally tasted as if you just bit into a boiled potato, no salt, no spices, absolutely nothing. The beef short rib was a little less extreme, but had a similar problem. There also were two very good entrees: the rabbit ragu and the fried chicken. However, my entire party unanimously agrees that it is a little overpriced for the amount given. Ex: The fried chicken was ~$ 21 for two chicken thighs, some carrots, and some mashed potatoes. Overall, great setting, okay service, and just spin a wheel to see if you’ll enjoy your food or not.

The restaurant was really cozy. I had the poutine, table pretzel, and the marinated steak tips. The poutine was good. The duck confit was a nice touch, but I didn’t think added to the poutine. The pretzel was good. The cheddar sauce was great, and the honey mustard was good. The steak tips and the sauce with it were delicious. I asked for medium, but I felt the steak was more well-done. The sauce was absolutely amazing, and the marinade was great! I search German restaurants and that is how I found the restaurant on Unilocal, but there weren’t too many German foods unfortunately. I would search elsewhere if German foods or beer is what you’re searching for.

One of the best restaurants we’ve even been to. From the beautifully rustic, home like décor, friendly staff, delicious drinks and incredible food we were impressed. We went early as we had a toddler with us but even on the off season it filled up pretty quickly. I did the prie fixe — salad, steak tips, Belgian waffle. Salad was standard, homemade vinaigrette was very good. Steak tips are marinated in stout and so tender and flavorful. French fries were homemade and perfectly golden. I had never had a Belgian waffle as a dessert but of course it makes sense. It is served with chocolate ganache and whipped cream. Ahhhh incredible. Husband had the special flat iron steak, reported that it was very good. Toddler had chicken fingers and fries. Chicken fingers are homemade, very yummy(mom tested) We will definitely return!

Wonderful food, great experience. I had the organic mix green salad, big size portion and super fresh. My husband had the Cod, it was one of the best ever! We will be definitely return soon for more! They also deserve 5 starts for the great customer service and how friendly they were with my child and our requests. Thank you !!!

Really nice atmosphere inside… cozy vintage dining tables and chairs. We started with oysters… very good… the charcuterie platter was unique and very tasty… Had burger… honestly cooked perfectly… so big impossible to get my mouth around it… so ate it with fork and knife… very delish… My son had grilled chicken Caesar… reported it as OK… We ordered dessert… Belgian waffle… have seen a rave on Phantom Gourmet about this dessert… We found it pedestrian. My reason for a 3 rating is not the food… food was awesome… it was the fact that we placed drink order with our server and took well over 20 minutes to receive them… as the bartender was having a conversation with a gentleman at the bar. We finally got a tad exasperated and asked our server to please ask the bartender to make our drinks… and then continue her conversation… the server reported she couldn’t…as the bartender was the owner… imagine…the owner… While food was good, service by owner unimpressive… so will go elsewhere!

What can I say other than amazing! We were planning to just eat a quick dinner and then go somewhere else for dessert – we stayed. They make everything by hand. The bread was fantastic – I could have taken a whole loaf and not complained. I had the lobster ravioli and it came out perfect – with huge chunks of lobster. I can’t remember what my husband had but he enjoyed his meal as well. As we sat debating about dessert I saw they had strawberry shortcake. As I told our server, they are in big trouble for making a strawberry shortcake better than my moms! Service was great – prompt but not hovering around. My husband and I got to eat, drink, and enjoy ourselves in peace. We were there for about 2 hours and never once felt like the staff wanted us to go. Next time we are in Falmouth we are coming here!

First time but certainly won’t be out last. Though it’s pretty small, we liked the atmosphere. Unfortunately we went on a night they didn’t have live piano playing(from the loft upstairs). I had a beer on tap, while my wife had a blueberry lemonade concoction(with muddled blueberries) which she loved. We started with the grilled Caesar and strawberry arugula salads, which were both excellent. We both had the sausage pappardelle, as we’d heard how good it is. It didn’t disappoint. The homemade noodles were good, though we both thought they were too thick. The sausage was excellent and the sauce was good. For dessert we had the Belgium waffle, which the couple at the bar said we couldn’t leave without having. We added some vanilla ice cream, which was perfect for it. Delicious. The servers were friendly and attentive. The prices were more than reasonable, based on the quality of the food. It’s a scratch kitchen, so everything is made on site. Fantastic. So glad we went before the summer rush — I can only imagine how busy they get. We shall return(and return and return).
