Great food and great service tonight. Probably our 10th visit here for dinner. It was a little slow and sometimes that can be a recipe for slow understaffed service, but this was not the case. Smallish menu with nice variety and everyone at my table was very content. We ate in the tap room which was a warm comfortable space. Definitely returning.

I need to clarify that this review is for the INN and not for the restaurant. I stand by my review in 2013, and I had another exceptional experience in the dining room on Thanksgiving Day. The place itself was beautifully decorated and the restaurant was wonderful, but the lack of service was appalling. Here’s what happened: We booked a mini-getaway on Thanksgiving, and enjoyed a delicious meal before checking in. We sat on the edge of the king-sized bed to FaceTime with family back home, and the bed caved in. We lifted up the box springs and found that the cross supports underneath were bent and not in place. We tried to hold up the bed and fix the frame, but it was just too bent for two people to repair with no tools and with one person holding up a king-sized mattress and the two twin box springs. We went downstairs and told the manager about the situation.(Note: She knew we had just spent over $ 200 for the prix fixe dinner in the dining room.) There was no «I’m sorry…» There was no «Let me get you a round of drinks,» or, better yet, «Let me take something off your bill.» «Maybe you should take a look at it?» we suggested. She sort of shrugged and said«there’s nobody here to look at it — it’s Thanksgiving Day.» «Okay,» we said, «just move us to another room.» «We’re fully booked,» she said. We mulled over our options. Pay $ 260 to sleep in a broken bed and be angry about the lack of concern or customer service, or drive 1 hour home. We decided to leave and the manager said«OK, we’ll issue a refund.» Again, not one single«sorry» was uttered.

The bar at the Falls Village Inn has become the center of life in our little town, and the recent return of chef Matt Fahrner to the area has brought an improved menu, both in selection and preparation. Instead of the reliable(and always satisfying) Inn Burger, tonight I tried the Lobster, Goat Cheese, and Jalapeño Wontons. Crunchy, fresh, and not overwhelmed by heat. Next, I tried the Crispy Sole, served over mashed potatoes, spinach, and sweet corn coulis. Fresh fish, not over-fried, and very nicely seasoned. If you still have room(I didn’t,) have the surprisingly good lemon icebox pie. If you’re in NWCT, it’s worth a detour to come to this special place, where you’re likely to see locals, race car drivers from nearby Lime Rock Park, and the occasional celebrity(who wants to be left in peace.)

Too tired to bust out dinner on a Thursday night… I wish I could walk here — we desperately need a place like this West Cornwall(if any chefs or restauranteers are reading this!!). We got seated quickly and orders were taken and delivered. We shared calamari — needed a touch more seasoning, but crispy and melt in your mouth good. I had the salmon special with a brown sugar glaze — terrific. The quinoa blend was buttery and a perfect compliment to the salmon. Didn’t quite understand the kale chips — it was kind of oven roasted kale… tasty though. Maybe I was too tired to get it. Burgers and fries — which everyone liked… cooked perfectly and fries were saltily sublime. Desserts looked good, but we were stuffed. Next time.

We came here for their Mother’s Day Inn, which they had a special menu for(a surprise!). It was bursting with patrons, so we were seated quickly in the dinning room and the noise level was minimal. The temperature was a little stuff, but the rapid approach of summer surprises us all. The special menu had no appetizers; there was just soup, salad, and entrees. Prices were between $ 20-$ 25 for the entrees. The server was really nice, answered all questions and kept the water pitchers coming. They were also quick to refill the bread baskets, which had thin, toasted bread with an «everything» bagel topping. Mother and I each had a gazpacho — She assured me it was very good, I had never had one before but enjoyed it. My lamb lollipops with honey balsamic were a touch fatty, and rosemary smashed potatoes and roasted asparagus a little overly seasoned for me. However, the cook was perfect and a plate-cleaning experience. One night we’ll have to come back to check out their regular menu! Finally, the bathroom was amazing. It was huge, very clean, and felt like you were in someone’s house instead of a generic little water closet at a restaurant.(FYI — It’s located in the main dining room behind the wood panels on the left. It’s opposite the kitchen doors so approach with some caution!)

Went to the FVI after reading the NY Times review a few weekends ago and could not have had a more dispiriting experience. Despite having made reservations, my party was treated as if we were alien life forms upon entering. After that awkward introduction, we were seated in the handsome confines of the restaurant’s bar room. An unreasonable wait for initial service was punctuated by visit by a sullen waitress who longed for a venue more amenable to her inscrutable aptitudes. Unfortunately, nothing about the quality or presentation of the food served to ANYBODY in my party enhanced the experience. Think of the kind of grub that used to make New England cuisine infamous: dry, bland, ill prepared and cold. Curiously, if you like Kale in chip form, there is a bounty available here with almost any dish. I could go on, but if you want to eat abysmal food in a wonderful country inn with paper napkins, this is your place.

Went yesterday for brunch. Had their signature burger which is incredible, complete with carmelized onions and gruyère cheese inside. Real fries — did I mention REAL? Not frozen. As in, made there. Wow. Sat in bar at high tops, not my favorite but it was busy so that’s what we were given. Friendly bartender. Had to ask for ice for my water as the bottle on the table was warm, but was quickly taken care of. A little pricey but it’s Litchfield County so what do you expect? I would definitely go again. Extremely flavorful.

Excellent is the best I can say and what a nice surprise thanks to finding out about it on Unilocal this Sunday morning when searching for Sunday Brunch. As locals we consider this a real find. From the start when our server Susan met us at the front door to seat us, her service was as warm and welcoming as we could expect. We were lucky to be the first to arrive and had a choice corner veranda table with a view and cool summer breeze. The cellist and guitarist played old standards the whole time we were there and were so soothed by it we felt like checking in for a nap. The corn chowder starter was delicious and the poblano cheddar omelet we added bacon to was bursting with flavor. The(plantain) banana and chocolate pancakes were a perfect finish –dripping with real maple syrup. Portions were as appropriate and satisfying as the prices. This was a perfect start to a relaxing Sunday country outing that we will look forward to doing again soon.

Came here for a birthday dinner with my husband and parents. We chose the Inn because I was tired of eating at the only two restaurants close to my home and was looking for a change. So glad that we made this decision! The food was spectacular and the service was impeccable. We had called and made a reservation for the dining room but after finding that a little drafty were immediately moved into the bar area and accommodated there. Both my husband and father ordered the French Onion Soup and claimed it was one of the best they’ve ever had. I order the pork chop and it was a little undercooked, after informing my server, she immediately took it back to the kitchen where they cooked it a little longer and returned it just to my liking. Thankfully she left me all of my side items so I could still eat with my party, which I really enjoyed, nothing irks me more than when they take your entire plate away and you have to sit and watch everyone else eat, so this was really nice of her. Will definitely return here again and recommend to others.

The Falls Village Inn is an out of the way gem. My girlfriend and me will frequently stop in on a Saturday or Sunday for lunch and a beverage. Always a good experience.

Having eaten at FVI3 or 4 times now, we have always had a good meal. We arrived one half hour before the brunch was to end yesterday and found our waitress to be in a bit of a fog. I guess they had been busy. This not usually the case in past visits. I had the delicious hash with an egg but the accompanying potato/tomato concoction seemed like they scraped it off the bottom of the pan. My fellow diner ordered a caesar salad that came without the grilled chicken as stated on the menu… it was brought out later but altho’ tasty was over cooked. I had to ask for another glass of wine. Then we were disappointed that the dessert we choose, crepes, were gone. I think that the timing was off for the whole meal because on other occasions we have had a great experience and food… so i hope it was just an off time. The inn is lovely and we will give it another try in the future.

As I stated in my previous review, the FVI is always good value for money. This time the Mrs. and I went up with the kids, and we had a great time(as per our usual). On this particular weekend, the town held their annual car show, so we had a wonderful opportunity to see some classics on display. This of course, was after an exceptional brunch at the Inn. Blueberry pancakes, eggs benedict, cinnamon french toast — all prepared to yummy perfection. Lunch and dinner the day before was equally as satisfying. When you stay at the Inn you are guaranteed 3 things: to eat/drink well, to sleep well, and to decompress from the stress of city life. It’s a wonderful slice of CT charm. One of my favorite places to be.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Inn for a two night getaway. The owner Sue, was extremely friendly and helpful. We stayed in the blue room which had delightfully soft sheets and a tasteful décor. I loved all the historic details that were respected during the recent renovation. In the morning there was a continental breakfast waiting for us downstairs. We had dinner there two nights in a row it was so good! We had a variety of items on the menu and specials, such as the NY strip steak, the salmon, the marinated lamb special and the swordfish special. everything was extremely fresh and expertly prepared. The wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. I would make a point of going back for our next getaway!

This is a super place, a real treat to find in a very quiet country village. I’ve known the place through several owners, and the current ones have made what had never in my experience anything better than ordinary country inn into my favorite place to dine out around here. The bar is friendly — I’ve yet to encounter any attitude there. The restaurant occasionally borders on greatness, which is definitely not something you expect to find in the country. Okay, maybe it wouldn’t get five stars from me in Manhattan, but here it does. The menu changes seasonally, and they have their act together as far as what’s on it and furthermore, it’s really consistent. I’ve eaten here a bunch of times, and the worst dish I’ve had was still way above average. Because we live in the area, I’ve not checked out the rooms.

Admittedly, I have fond childhood memories of what the Falls Village Inn was circa 1992; as an old friend’s mother managed at the time, I recall sitting in a converted bedroom on the second floor, eating freshly fried mozzarella sticks and watching«Roundhouse» on SNICK. As for the food back then? Who cares? I was in 2nd grade and I could go downstairs and get free refills of Sprite from the bar whenever I wanted! After a handful of renovations and reimaginings, the Falls Village Inn has come into what it is currently. For the area, based on the brunch menu, I was impressed by their eclectic menu! Along with your basic dishes such as waffles and pancakes, the menu was graced with choices such as fish tacos and multi-colored quinoa with mango. The inside was simply, tastefully decorated with many photos and homages to the Canaan and Falls Village of yesteryear. And the drink menu? New York — style cocktails to cater to the New York crowd, indeed. I partook in the waffle for brunch, which was coupled with a small array of watermelon slices, strawberries, and orange slices on the side, along with authentic maple syrup. The waffle? Plentiful but too dry for my liking. My parents had Eggs Benedict along with potato-tomato au gratin. This combination was MINDBLOWING. Though the potatoes were a triffle underdone, the flavor combination was absolutely subpurb. I could have consumed an entire plate of just that, shamelessly licking the sauce off of the plate afterwards. An eclectic(by Northwest Corner of CT standards) menu with above-average food; my waffle wasn’t the best, but the other food was of good quality. I certainly look forward to going back to try their other options. My age has changed, and I’m looking forward to eating more than mozzarella sticks like I used to!(Though perhaps a few may be tasty, for ol’ times sake…)

The much ballyhooed makeover of this place hasn’t yet migrated to the dining room, but they are just getting going, so I guess they deserve a break. Service is a little raggedy. A reservation made Monday for a Saturday dinner obviously didn’t make it to the book by Saturday night, but they were very gracious and were able to quickly accommodate. The menu is nothing particularly noteworthy, either in selection or execution – decent steak, crabcakes OK.(Had the same issue with the asiago appetizer as the earlier Unilocal reviewer.) Dining room décor needs a real lift, starting with the white Walmart mini-blinds.(Come back Bunny Williams). Be happy to try again, but they have some work to do. Right now, I would say best bet is burger and beer in the bar.
