A falls church hidden gem, this place is probably unknown to most people. But inside this small, gourmet establishment are quite possibly the best bratwursts you will ever try! Don’t let the scary german lady slow you down, walk right up to her and order the platter. The arrangement is completely authentic and I highly doubt you’ll find what they offer anywhere else in the area. If you’re remotely close to this place, stop what you’re doing, and go now. The bratwurst is truly money. Be prepared to eat in the car. Also, 7 – 11 is next door so go there to grab a cheap drink.

OMG where the hell was this place in my life??? After moving to the McLean area, I drove by this place coming home from H Mart many times and never stopped by… until when I was finally on vacation and had time to head to the house slowly. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. I ordered a pound of variety cold cuts, half pound of double-smoked bacon, and a pound of fresh brats. Good lord that was good — the only thing I forgot was my favorite mittel-scharf mustard to top it all off. I have to run errands on Monday so nothing is out. I’m just sad that it took me so long to get out there only to have the location shutting down on 2 July. But they’re moving to Bailey’s Crossroad’s location so I’ll just have to drive a bit further for my deutsch fix.

Really the best place to shop for authentic German food specialties! They don’t have a seating area so your need to enjoy your food at home.(-;

LOVE this place. Have gotten the bratwurst(both hot to go, and fresh to cook at home) and has been delicious each time. Good German beer selection, they’ve got all the basic German breweries available that you wouldn’t find in area grocery stores. My other favorite part– candy! There is some kind of candy that is shaped like a hippo with nutella like deliciousness inside, and one time I got a coupon for free entrance to the Berlin Zoo. Awesome place to get funky candy for Christmas stockings. Minuses– the parking lot is really small and right off Lee Hwy. The other location has better parking and a bigger selection, but this place is still worth the visit. I wouldn’t call this place cheap, but the quality is definitely worth it.

Despite appearances, I am not German. I do, however, enjoy sweet and cookies of all nationalities. And when I found out I could buy Hanuatas locally, I had to go by German Gourmet. Parking’s a slight pain, so I would recommend not coming here during busy traffic times. Otherwise, the staff is super friendly. They all have the coolest German accents, even the asian lady who works at the cash register. For a small store, their selection is extensive. They carry magazines, lip balm, cookies, baking goods, beers, meats, baked goods, souveniers, teas, etc. I couldn’t find any Ferrero Küsschen, though. :-( They also called me when they got a new shipment of Hanutas. That’s just cool. I also got some Duplos there too. It ended up being the most expensive cookies shopping spree that I recall, but it was worth it. (Note, don’t buy the Lambertz Compliments. Waaay too sugary, and it’s pretty much a cheaper version of Tollhouse cookies.) I have never had any of their meats or baked goods, and it is my loss. However, my waistline cannot support quite so much Bavaria. But one day, I shall know the joy that is Nuss Schinken. It’s too bad there’s no French Gourmet.

It’s what you want in October. Bratwurst. Slathered with sauerkraut and mustard on a thick roll. A side of red cabbage — a taste of Munich. And German-style potato salad. Hot. Savory. UNDER $ 6. Under $ 6, people! One of my favorite bargains. This store is small but really delightful, especially around Christmas time when they stock up all kinds of gingerbread, stollen, candy advent calendars, and other sweet treats. Their year-round candy display is amazing. My son likes to look at the nutcrackers and cuckoo clocks, imported from Germany, of course. Also on display: lots of sausages and pastries. I have had the apple strudel, which I like, although it isn’t as sweet as some American versions. But I almost always invariably go for the bratwurst platter.

«HOTBRATSTOGO» says the sign out front — count me in! 40 year old fun store and what a selection. There were about a dozen different sausages to choose from and a few sides. lots of other meats, cheeses, beer, wine, and dessert items as well. it’s a bit pricey, but hey — it’s german baby. practically everything in here isn’t in English, even the mustard. Enjoy the large variety of spices and candy. They even have imported European magazines and gift items like nutcrackers, hand carved boxes, and beer steins. so grab a six pack, some brats, rolls, kraut, and CD s — no Hoff ones unfortunately ;) — and you’re all set for Oktoberfest. TIP: ask about their pre-cooked brats if you need a quick dinner. just heat and serve. also, their columbia pike location is bigger and open 7 days a week.

HQ Marine Corps eats here often, or rather, they take out often. We fax the order in to them and they prepare them in advance. We have developed a speadsheet with the orders, which they number in sequence. When the orders are picked up, we follow the numbers! The food is good, but if you get a chance, visit the place, which is an unpretentious building. The entrance is in the back — it will look closed from the front. German food lovers will revel at the gutes brochen, the schinken, kase, gutes caffe and great schocolad. Danes will appreciate the pickeled herring and other such delicacies(???).

I recently had lunch here with a friend. I had the Debringzener(sp?) with sauerkraut and mustard(I didn’t order the mustard, but it actually was very good) and it was a really great simple sandwich. The side salads I had with it were not that great. I had the spaetzle with cheese and the Tyrolean cabbage salad. The spaetzle with cheese kind of made me want to barf, but I’m also not a big cheese fan. In fact, anything past mozzarella is adventurous for me. Anway, the Tyrolean was«eh» and it made me wish I’d picked the red cabbage salad I had been eyeing. The dessert was fantastic. We ordered some kind of cake to split(I don’t remember the name but it was a white cake with cream) and it really was one of the better desserts I’ve had. Aside from the underwhelming side salads my biggest gripe is that I really wish they had at least a table or two for customers that would prefer eating in rather than getting it to go. They have a lot of space and some of it is filled with interesting choices(shampoo displays). I do realize that they are a gourmet grocery store, but still one or two tables would be nice.

Wow, this store can set you up for some excellent at-home dinners. I am partial to the Weisswurst.(beautiful white veal sausages, very delicate seasoning) Get a couple of those and some of the incredibly delicious, bacon-laden German-style potato salad. When you get home just heat the Weisswurst up in a bowl of canned beef broth(if you are old-school you will do this on the stovetop, but if you are really hungry and lazy person like me you can do it in the microwave) for 2 – 3 minutes. Oh, my God. If you don’t enjoy this dinner(sausages + potato salad) I will be really surprised. It’s amazingly inexpensive too. If you like spicier food then serve with mustard.

Great store. There is now a larger location at Bailey’s crossroads. The brats and weiners remind me of my days in the fatherland. You can also satisfy the odd craving here and there — such as Rollmops(herring). The bread is also very good. We usually try and get the steinhofen bread, but have found you have to get there early on Saturdays b/c/they’ll sell out of the good bread by afternoon.

A few days after Christmas I had high hopes that German Gourmet might still have a package or two of my favorite Marzipan-Kartoffeln. Sadly, I could not locate the soft, cocoa dusted, marzipan potatoes in the simple dark gold packaging. I settled instead for a fancier version in a bright gold box. Tasty, but not the same. Having just feasted on an Elevation cheeseburger, fries and a strawberry shake down the road, I didn’t partake in any of the items available from the bakery or deli portions of German Gourmet. I’ll likely come back to check those out the next time my German mother visits!

Thanks to my Swiss roots, I’ve been instilled with a healthy appetite for German cuisine… especially grilled Bratwurst. Apart from the great German Market in the store and amazing deli selection, they put together a heck of a Bratwurst sandwich with potato salad so good it’s like crack. The bratwurst sandwich makes it onto my DC’s Best Sandwiches list, even though it’s not in DC. If you need bratwurst in DC, go to Café Mozart. But German Gourmet is better.

Yes! What a fun store! Hot brats to go! And german potato salad like I haven’t had since Long Island! Beautiful selection of pastries and of course, chocolates, and wines(riesling!). They often have chocolate or wine tastings. YUM! This reminds me that I need to go here more often. Unfortunately, they are usually closed by the time I roll back into the fchurch area from work, but, since I don’t have a JOB at the moment, I should definitely go there and get some food. I’ve been stocking up at the Lebanese Taverna Market Café, but I DO believe I have neglected German Gourmet. It’s also great for specialty gift items and breads. I got the most DENSE bread I have EVER had in my whole life. Some type of brown bread. It weighed a TON. You could have hurt someone with that loaf. It’s nice if you’re going to visit family, to stop by and pick up some interesting and authentic treats here. I love my neighborhood. It’s so freaking DIVERSE!

We stop here every so often, whenever we are in the neighborhood. This store is really small, but it’s packed. We pick up spaetzle, potato noodle mixes, soup mixes, red cabbage, salad dressings, Duplo chocolate… They have lots of Knorr and Maggi items that you don’t see anywhere else. They also have a small section for German sundries, glasses, and even the German stickers you can put on your car. They have a counter with premade stuff(lots of meat), like potato salad and pretzels. The small staff is always very friendly and helpful. I think this German store has more stuff in it than Café Mozart. Sie sollten es versuchen!
