We moved to Virginia from Texas(and before that from Australia) 3 years ago. My wife had a dodgy crown(done in Texas) that fell off. At 2am in the morning she managed to get a hold of Adel and he took care of her and fixed everything up. On her advice I saw Adel and have never experienced a dentist like this before. Without making me feel stupid, he took the time to explain a number of dental concepts and when in the chair he has a strong concern to make sure you are comfortable. What I like the most is his attention to detail and in particular pride in the quality of his work. He checks and rechecks things(e.g. the bite on a tooth) to make sure it has been done properly and will rework something until it is done the right way. The office also has some good systems in place for reminders. The only small downside has been the occasional reschedule being required for a variety of valid reasons(injury, snowstorm, power outage, and once for a conference). With that said I couldn’t more highly recommend a dentist. Every other dentis I’ve had in my 40 years I’ve always felt have been working the angles to maximize the $. With Adel he has minimized unecessary work but highlighted necessary work along with teaching me more preventative methods to minimize the trips required. He has also noted other items for follow up(funny mark on tongue and swollen glands) that are outside his area of expertise but where he knows the warning signs. I’ve always felt like he has my best interests at heart.

A little over a year ago, I went to Dr. Rizkalla for a second opinion about a root canal recommended by my then family dentist. Dr. Rizkalla concurred that I needed to see an endodontist as I had a large cavity that was getting into the root of the tooth. He also told me that a second tooth had a large cavity that was dangerously close to causing me to need another root canal and that a third tooth was cracked. He told me that I should mention these findings to my family dentist soon since my family dentist had not indicated that either problem existed. When I went to the endodontist, he was surprised that I had been having regular checkups every six months as the two cavities were large and should have been visible during an exam up to twelve months earlier. He did the root canal and said that I should have the second cavity filled right away. Because it appeared that my prior family dentist had missed at least two major problems during at least two exams, I had Dr. Rizkalla do a complete exam. He was very thorough and found a couple of more minor issues that needed attention and one that needed to be watched to see if it would become a problem. I decided that I had lost confidence in my prior family dentist and have changed to Dr. Rizkalla. In all of my dealings with Dr. Rizkalla, he has been patient, gentile, reassuring and professional. His office is spotlessly clean and he takes maximum precautions to prevent the spread of disease. His staff is friendly and efficient and his hygienist clearly follows his lead. I am very happy to strongly recommend Dr. Rizkalla to anyone who wants a thorough, experienced and capable dentist.
