Restaurant now closed, worst service from female bartender she clearly overpours, prefers gossiping to service. Don’t know why I ever have then another chance waste of time.

This place was such a gem last year. My how things change. Don’t expect good service or cold beer on tap. Employees get high while working, the beer is never cold and not filled to the top(one is actually good about that), one in particular accused some of regulars of skipping out on a tab(the regulars have spent thousands there in the past and were a big part of the success until recently), menu is very limited and on a piece of paper and the owner doesn’t seem to care. I would give it no stars if I could. Avoid like Ebola.

9÷09÷2014 From Bulldog 1: Update to my earlier review of 8÷17÷2014: Revisited«Jack’s Place» two days ago for an early evening drink, partly to chat with«Sherry,» the pleasant late day bartender, but mostly to keep track of the«death spiral» downward trend. Jack and Bonnie … one thinks of «Bonnie and Clyde» … have not disappointed us … they are relentlessly continuing to pile-drive the operation ever more deeply into the ground. 6:00 P.M. in the evening, with three customers at the bar(including me), and two golf day stragglers on the outside patio … and that was it. Two waitresses … two bar staff … one bartender … plus two cooks in the kitchen. Visible staff = 7 employees. Customers = 5 persons. Plus, as «Joe J.» mentioned in his excellent and well-written review of 9÷05÷20114, the latest«constructive downsizing» by Jack and Bonnie has been to CLOSE the main dining room, except for … as the blackboard blocking the way into that area informs us, «major functions» and«special events.» Comment on the above is unnecessary. As Bob Dylan … remember him, Jack and Bonnie? … sang some time ago: «You don’t need to be a weatherman, to know which way the wind blows !!» For heaven’s sake, stop needlessly burning your capital. Know when you’re in over your head, and when you’re out of your league. Fold the tents, and go. You should have sold or leased to the Estrella Family, rather than stubbornly holding out over such things as who might retain the rights to the beer concession. Paraphrasing Bob Dylan again: «You know SOMETHING’S happening, but you don’t know what it is … do you … Mr. Jack !!!» Go. Just please go. The next step will be to send in FEMA. BULLDOG1 — FALLBROOK

I don’t know why people have given this place a bad review. Like every business, a change of ownership bring a change in atmosphere. I have been going there for many years and I ABSOLUTELY love the changes. The staff is friendly, respectful and COMPETENT! The food is just as good if not better than it has ever been. I especially like the service I have received from Johnny(new bartender). He is always smiling and he is very competent as both a bartender and a server. I had stopped going for a while but since the new staff has come in, I am once again a regular! Way to go Jack’s!!!

Not sure what happened to this beautiful venue. I have been coming here for 7+ years. For years the former Hukilau’s was a great place for food and drink with great happy hours and a loyal local clientele. over the past 6 mos it appears that closure is all but inevitable unless some other entity like Estrella’s can come in and operate a restaurant and bar here. The new owners, I don’t believe are trying to fail, they seem like nice people. just maybe not a good fit.

Why would anyone take a 3 star restaurant(Hukilau) and turn it into a 1 star? We used to dine here at least weekly. However Jack’s Place has increased price, reduced food quality to Cisco’s cheapest, and the new owners have managed to replace their once all star staff. Even though their business has declined with all the negative changes, they still manage to understaff even on peak lunch and dinner hours. It’s like they are purposely trying to lose money to speed up a bankruptcy or something. Lastly, I know this place won’t be in business much longer, but hurry up and go! We miss having a local spot to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Once upon a time, when it was the Hukilau, this was my favorite restaurant, ranking it better than Lucky Dog Café. Sadly, that was the past. Went there for lunch today and the food was blah, the service was weak and the prices have increased. I wish the Hukilau and everything about it would come back. Won’t be going back, Jack.

HUGE improvement! Our service was great and the food was too. We have been here before in the passed and wasn’t all that impressed but this time changed out minds. I was told it was under new management and you can tell. We will definitely be back!

The previous review is spot on, except I think it was very generous with three stars. This place won’t be in business long. It was virtually empty on a Saturday night.

This place is under new ownership Jack and Bonnie. I think they need to be «present» more so they can oversee the staff. I rated a 3 star because I believe they can do better with more and better staff, I asked the waitress what the«special» came with(Terriyaki Salmon) I saw her go outside to read the Blackboard with the specials instead of going into the kitchen to ask, she came back in and said to my table«Only Salmon», we said ?? no potato or rice? She said no, just the salmon! LOLLOL, she was a high school girl and maybe this was her first gig with specials? Anyway we convinced her to go ask in the kitchen what the Salmon came with. She came back and told us Rice or Potato! Next, our appetizer NEVER arrived. We canceled it. The food came, ok, my soup came after my meal… Everything was luke warm. So Jack and Bonnie, we love supporting Fallbrook restaurants but please… get more experience staff and more of it, especially on a Friday night. And we will try your place again.
