Crazy, unique hot dogs. You’ll either love them or hate ‘em. There is no in between. As far as me? I, absolutely, love them.

This is a rare low rating for me especially for such a highly reputable place. I give it a two star because I can tell there’s quality there but I can’t taste it because my mouth is burned. I was warned that the sauce was hot and told to get a chocolate milk. I love chocolate milk and this is the first time I had to drink it to suppress pain instead of enjoying the flavor. I just couldn’t get past the heat. It consumes the hotdog. I literally couldn’t taste the dog. I was so excited to go here. I had been anticipating it for months. I made it a full foodathon day by getting pepperoni rolls at Tomaro’s and Country Club Bakery. I got some hotdogs at Woody’s which were delicious. Then I thought I was saving the best for last with Yann’s but it was a dud for me. I really wanted to like it.

Disgusting hot dogs, burnt tasting overly spicy inedible sauce, and a rude owner who needs to find something else to do with his time. If I could give this hateful man and his crap food a zero, I would.

I said in another review that Woody’s is my favorite hot dog joint in Fairmont. While I stand by that, I must say that Yann’s is an altogether different animal. If you ask for anything, and I mean ANYTHING other than what they put on their dogs(sauce, onion, mustard) you will basically be run out of the place. Now to some this may sound terrible, but honestly, these dogs are fan-freaking-tastic made that way. The sauce is hot, but not overbearing, and it has a great peppery bite. If I find myself in the mood for a Yann’s dog, nothing else will do. This place has some real history, and they do what they do very well. Second best in Fairmont isn’t so bad right?

I wish I could leave zero stars… anyone who rates this place highly must have smoked a zinger before staggering in the front door. The owner has been described as eccentric, but that gives eccentrics a bad name. I have been to this joint exactly once, and will never spend another penny in this place. Not that this really matters to the owner, I am convinced that Mr Yann doesn’t like the public, nor does he really need this business… it’s kinda like a hobby for him. If you’re in the ‘circle’ and play the way the Fascist Kaiser of Hotdogs wants you to play(ie, his way or the highway), I suppose you would like this hole. If you want a decent hot dog, there are many many other places in Fairmont to get them. Me: Could I get three with sauce and no onions or mustard, please? Yann:(says nothing, assembles 3 dogs with sauce, onions, and mustard). Me: I’m sorry, could I get these without onions and mustard, please? Yann:(getting agitated) Are you from Morgantown? Me: No, I lived there for a while— Yann:(interrupting) Well… you ACTLIKEIT! At that point I wished I was in Morgantown again, because his daughter owned a hot dog shop there years ago and was friendly, made hot dogs the way you asked, and was never ever rude. I went often, and miss the place. My fondest memory of Yann’s Hot Dogs in Fairmont was seeing it fade into the distance of my rear view mirror.

I have never tasted better chili than Yann’s. His hotdogs are superb. I went to Fairmont State University for 6 years and frequented this facility. Since then moved away from the area and miss the spicy sauce every time I see someone post anything about them. I get mine without onions and Russell is fine with that(maybe a little scowl) other than that, amazing dogs, sauce, and sometimes he has cinnamon rolls. I get 6 with a dr. pepper, yumm!

Yann’s Hot Dogs have been a local staple for as long as I can remember. These are not your normal hot dog by any means. Old man Yann has crafted a unique version of dog that has made West Virginians grin for years even though it gave them an ulcer. You can get these with everything which includes chili(which is spicy but life changing) onions and mustard, without onions, or plain. Don’t make the mistake of asking for ketchup… ever. For years(even after North Marion basketball practices that began at 6:00a and ended at 9:00a) I’ve enjoyed Yann’s hot dogs and chocolate milk. My love for them is only surpassed by Country Club Bakery pepperoni rolls. Interesting fact, Yann makes a set number of hot dogs each day and when they’re gone he closes up shop. So get there early or you may not get one.

THEBEST, EVER, PERIOD! I am from the Pittsburgh area and visit relatives a couple of times yearly, and when I do I purchase a couple of dozen and take them home. Don’t poo poo the heat factor, you do get used to it. If Yann is not open, I hit up Woody’s, as nothing else will do.

First off, there are a few things you need to know about Yann’s Hot Dogs. 1. Old man Yann is quite similar to the soup nazi from Seinfeld. 2. DONOT ask for Ketchup, you will most likely get yelled at without receiving your food. 3. The«dogs» come in three variations: everything(Chili, Mustard, Onions), no onions, and plain. The chili is hot but FANTASTIC. It’s definitely a local eatery, and by far the BEST hot dog you will get in all of West Virginia. It’s not open all year ’round or even all week during the summer. I recommend the Chocolate milk to drink. These dogs are HOT!

Every time I visit Fairmont, West Virginia, I sincerely hope Yann would be open. I get 4 or 5 hot dogs to eat, and at least another 6 ‘to-go’. Yann hot dog sauce is the most unique I have tasted by far. It took 6 years for Russel to say ‘hi’ to me, but he has always been greeting his customers like me with ‘one of of kind’ hot dogs for years. Cheapest & best hot dogs in the world(as long as you don’t mind hot & spicy) !
