I have a list of restaurants in the area that I want to check out so I was happy to finally give EJ’s a try. We started off with the complimentary crackers and dip(cream cheese, sour cream, cranberries, cinnamon, etc), which I actually really liked. I ordered the Beddar Burger with fries for my meal and it was decent but not great. There wasn’t much flavor to the burger, despite there being a «horseradish aioli» on it(which I couldn’t taste at all). The fries were a bit better but not much. My mom really liked her seafood platter and because of that and the crackers/dip, I would give the place 3.5 stars. The desserts are REALLY overpriced and I’m not sure why. The most expensive desserts should be like $ 5 – 6 max for this type of eatery and not $ 8-$ 10 like it is. You’re better off going to get dessert at Emma Jean’s. We got 1 cupcake, 1 oreo truffle, 1 scone, and 1 lemon square all for less than the price of the 1 apple crisp that I was going to order at EJ’s but decided not to. Overall, our EJ’s experience was pretty good but could have been better. I’ll give it another try though.

I will start of saying they have decent food so take out would be an option, but I have not tried it so we will see. This is the second time I have been here both times they have been under staffed. 1 person covering all of the tables and 1 covering the bar. So they are running around like crazy. So service was very slow. If this place was staffed it would be great, but based on both visits we will not be dining in any time soon.

Like many of the other reviews have said, I really wanted to like this place. It looks so nice and the atmosphere is great. However, the food just does not taste good. It’s as simple as that. The managers really need to sit down and actually taste the overpriced, gross food that they are serving to people and do something about it. I have never sent anything back to the kitchen in my entire life. that changed when I visited Ej’s. I got ribs that came with potato salad and beans. The potato salad was horrendous, like seriously disgusting so I had no choice but to ask to replace it with mashed potatoes. The waitress was extremely nice and understanding about which made me feel more comfortable about it. But the mashed potatoes weren’t that much better. Bottom line in order for this place to succeed they NEED to change something in the kitchen and one more thing I noticed is every time I come the food is so overcooked. I won’t be back for a long time.

The service was fantastic. The onion rings were heavenly; their aioli deserves five stars! My steak was a bit overcooked though; hence the four stars. My friend had the tasty Swedish fish martini and I had a fantastic Zinfandel. My daughter’s Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. All the portions were huge and we had meals for the next day as well. Oh and the key lime pie was perfect!

I have been here a few times… I have only ever sat at the bar so my review is only for that experience… The service is a little slow, but everyone is really nice so its not that big of a deal. I have only gotten tacos off the regular menu(pulled pork is definitely the best!) and they are pretty good. I have gotten a fair share of appetizers and they have all been really good as well. My one piece of advice is to not get a margarita here… at least the way that they have it listed on the menu. I got one last night for cinco de mayo and it was terrible. Other than that i have no complaints about this place

I really liked the interior here. Clean looking, and stylish, it reminded me of the interior of Not Your Average Joe’s. Our waitress was pleasant, but she was by herself on a busy trivia night so I would liked to have seen more of her. She was good at her job though so that’s minor. The three star review is based on the prices. $ 5 for a stuffed quahog? Really? I don’t eat stuffies, but I would imagine that would have to be one mighty fancy shellfish! The deserts were way overpriced, but I had a bite of some cookie and ice cream wonderfulness that my friend had gotten and it was delicious. Was it a $ 9 wonderfulness? That’s debatable. Attached is a deli and a bakery shares the parking lot, so that’s different. One stop shopping I guess. I would like to see this place succeed, but I’m just not seeing how it could with some of the prices. I personally won’t be eating here anytime soon as I can’t afford it! But I will definitely come back on a trivia night and drink some beer.

Smokestack burger was fantastic! The service was a little iffy considering it was empty but the food certainly made up for it. The deli and bakery are also great for after lunch/dinner. They have a wide variety of sweets next door and the deli has almost anything you can think of. Highly recommend going to EJ’s!

They have a very good selection of both food and tap beers. Sweet chili chicken pizza is great. Ahi Tuna is worth trying. New chefs John and Wallace are coming up with some real good specials. Burgers and meats are very fresh since they have a butcher shop onsite. A nice locally owned alternative to the chain restaurants.

First time here at EJ’s, seating was quick, very clean environment, the waitress came right over and was very friendly, took our drink order, and came right back with these great crackers and cheese spread that were absolutely delicious. Ordered our food which came in a timely manner, I had the marinated steak tips and my wife had the stuffed bone– in porkchop, both delicious. For desert we tried the new Nutella cheesecake, a little sweet but not bad, and definitely enough for two. And the last thing before we leave the check…$ 67.00 not bad, we both also had chowder, and 2 drinks .so to some it up 2 chowder s, 2 drinks, 2 meals(marinated steak tips, and stuffed pork chops) 1 dessert and 1 soda… $ 67.00 Yes will come here again 5 stars all the way…

After bickering with a group of friends on what restaurant to dine at last evening, we(one GF member, one non pork/seafood eating member) decided upon EJ’s. We’ve been to the candy/ice cream side and liked it fine, but didn’t know how that would translate into a full scale restaurant, some of my co-diners didn’t even realize that it was a normal restaurant/bar and thought it was just a deli. On another note, I’d be interested in checking out their deli, which seemed to have a nice variety and be well stocked, though from what I can recall, the latest they’re open is 5:00 pm which seems a bit early. We walked in at around 8:45 pm Saturday night to see the whole restaurant full, but were thankfully offered a high top at the bar with no wait, the atmosphere was far sleeker than I would have assumed and there are a number of TVs which make it just fine for sports game watching. To start off two of us decided to split the House-made Pretzel Bites served with a beer and cheese sauce. Bites is a tad misleading since they are definitely pretzel sticks, but they are quite wonderful, everything you want in a pretzel and then some, the beer cheese sauce accompaniment was so creamy, tangy, and flavorful. My only complaint is that there wasn’t nearly enough sauce for the five pretzel sticks, I could have dipped stuff in that for days. For my main meal, there were a number of choices I was interested in, however I went with the Reuben brick oven pizza. They have a visible brick oven in the bar, so it was clear when my pizza came out bubbling that it was indeed cooked fresh not 30 feet away from my seat. It was topped with your typical corned beef, Swiss cheese and thousand island dressing. It was piping hot, meaty and had wonderfully stringy cheese. I think I couldn’t taste as much as I wanted to because it was so hot, since after eating the leftovers tonight, I realized just how Reuben-y it actually tasted. I’d love if they could figure out how to get some sauerkraut on their too, since in my opinion, that’s what a Reuben needs. Their dessert menu wasn’t super thrilling and on the more expensive side, so we skipped that, but for a soda, half an appetizer, a 10 inch pizza, a side of pasta salad(which was pretty good, but not the best I’ve ever had), tax and tip, it came to $ 30, which is very doable, especially when I had enough leftovers for another meal the next day.

I’m a local and I was in the area shopping with my family, so we had an impromptu lunch. When we arrived we were promptly seated and within seconds my husband and I noted how loud the music was. We arrived at 12:15pm — I could understand increasing the volume at night around the bar area — but this was in the middle of the afternoon. The music selection also made no sense what-so-ever(one minute It was a classic Elton John song and the next it was heavy metal — very weird). My son ordered the kids pizza dinner — which came with a drink and a dessert — the price was just right — and when he got a whole 10 inch pizza — I was pleasantly surprised! Plenty left over for dinner. The waiter was extremely attentive and replace our drinks without asking — bonus points in my book for sure. I ordered the chicken pesto brick oven pizza — it was delightful. The flavors were fabulous together. My only concern was that they used some dark meat chicken — which I’m not a fan of — but most of it was white breast meat. My husband ordered the pretzel burger with potato salad. My husband was more than happy with the size of his burger. He wasn’t totally satisfied although — he order medium and he got it cooked well. All in all the burger disappeared quickly. The potato salad tasted just like homemade — I insisted to try it because it looked very inviting. Overall the food was great and there were a few sandwiches I would definitely go back to try out.

My family was in the Fairhaven area today and decided to stop by a restaurant and grab a bite to eat, my family and I choose Ej’s Restaurant and Deli, it was the best choice we have ever made. The atmosphere, management, staff and especially the food was just great. We couldn’t have asked for better time. I don’t usually write reviews but I just had an amazing time and we would like to thank the staff and the management team for giving us what we were looking for in a long time. THANKYOU. I want to preface things by saying that I very much would like to see EJ’s succeed. On a selfish level, I personally want a good restaurant in town with good food so I can hang out with my friends and eat. To that end, this isn’t about trashing a place. It’s about offering constructive, and hopefully useful, criticism. So, let’s get right down to it. APPETIZERS: My friend ordered the tomato basil soup, which was being touted as a special that night. When the bowl arrived, all three of us had the exact same reaction — «Is that a bowl of ketchup?». Upon tasting it, we realized that the tomato«soup» was actually just marinara or thick tomato sauce with a tiny, withered piece of basil lurking in its depths. We were hoping to maybe procure some mozzarella sticks to dip in it. She took a few bites and decided to leave the rest. When the waiter came by, he grimly took the bowl without a word. He didn’t feel the need to ask if she was still working on it, or if everything was ok. My other fried and I decided to split an order of buffalo wings. It’s hard to screw up buffalo wings. What they did deliver were six(or eight? I can’t really remember) good wings. I want to stress that they were good, not great. There were a bit heavy on the vinegar, but otherwise had good flavor. The main problem is that they were $ 12.99. And that is absolutely, completely unacceptable. Even for«great wings». Which these definitely were not. A wings appetizer should be maybe $ 7-$ 8. ENTREES: My friend and I had two different philosophies: he likes to order something common, comfortable, and recognizable at a new place so that he has a frame of reference to weigh it against. I like to order something that the establishment considers a specialty or a house favorite. To that end, he ordered a simple Reuben pizza and I ordered the special Bacon-wrapped Meatloaf with BBQ Maple sauce. Our third ordered a tomato/pesto/mozzarella sandwich. The pizza, again, was«ok» in his words. Though pretty lacking on the toppings. With establishments like Brick just a hop over the bridge in downtown New Bedford, the pizza needs to be pretty great to compete. The sandwich was also described as mediocre. Decent ingredients inside, but the bread was pretty soft and mushy. For an Italian-type sandwich like this, the bread should be crusty and chewy. The meatloaf, however, was completely devoid of anything that could even remotely be considered«flavor». I took two bites and realized that the barbecue sauce was put on the meatloaf to mask this fact. Meat, even in meatloaf, has got to be seasoned. It was a completely tasteless, gray, mushy, tiny blob of meat wrapped in limp, flavorless bacon that might as well have not been there at all. Not to mention it cost $ 15 and was about the size of a side order of cornbread. The accompanying roasted squash was also bland and unremarkable, as was the cole slaw. It really all reminded me of hospital food. I returned the meal, and was very appreciative that they removed it from our bill. EJ’s is brand new, and new places always have some kinks to work out. This was very evident in the waitstaff, and with the amount of time we and the other patrons in the building seemed to be waiting on their checks. And you know what? That is completely fine. I have no qualms about that and am confident that those issues will be ironed out. What I DO have a problem with is the food. It is so crushingly mediocre and bland, that I’m not sure how it will survive without starting over and building its menu from the ground up. How many of the items are homemade, as the menu suggests? How many are purchased frozen? I have no idea. Sidenote: Corners were obviously cut in the design department. What other successful family dine-in restaurants have you seen that rely on heavy use of purple and pink for their main colors? At this point, you’re asking yourself«what does that have to do with the food?». It’s simple. When I see that a business has skimped and cut corners on their design work — the face that they show to their customers — I immediately wonder what else they have skimped on. And after eating the food, I think I have my answer. Quite simply, EJ’s tries to do too much. Not to mention the use of the term«New York» and«Brooklyn» to describe the deli. The deli is very, very good. But there is nothing particularly New York about it, so I don’t know why those terms were used other than to get people to think that it is something that it’s not. Same goes for the use of the term«Family Style» on the sign. «Family Style» refers to «serving platters on the table so that all present can serve themselves». It all just stumps me I want this place to do well, and I will certainly be returning to EJ’s to see how things shake out and try more of their too-copious offerings. But if my experience remains the same, I’ll have to chalk it up as another over-ambitious endeavor without the know-how to actually pull it all off.
