Public Storage

I recently moved back to the Cincinnati area from Texas, and for the first few weeks, needed a large storage space in Florence, KY. After moving to Fairfield once I «settled in», I decreased my storage needs significantly, so I wanted to move to a smaller unit closer to my house. I reserved a 5×10 space online ($ 38) and the exact wording on the site said:
Monthly Rent: $ 38
$ 1 for first month: — $ 37
Administrative Fee: $ 24
TOTAL DUE AT MOVE IN: $ 25
So, I’m thinking (and budgeting) $ 25 to move into this place. I get there, and I will say that the manager, Lisa was very friendly and helpful. I understand she just works there and has no control over the corporate policies.
She took me to see the space, which is exactly what I needed. I was getting ready to put the lock on it (the same lock I used at my previous storage facility) and she said I couldn’t use it, that they required a MAXIMUM strength lock (the circular kind). Padlocks were no longer acceptable. This must be a new rule, because I stored my things at this EXACT same facility 3 years ago when I moved to Texas. So their new rule requires you to buy their lock — for $ 20!!!
So the total due at move-​in was NOT $ 25 as stated on their website, but $ 69 after the lock fee, and taxes, pro-​rated rent, etc. Unbelievable.
Note to Public Storage: If you’re going to REQUIRE the purchase of your overpriced lock, you should MENTION THAT on your website when people reserve a unit. It at least gives them the opportunity to buy their own acceptable lock for way less than your markup. Not cool PS. Not cool.

Lisa took good care of me and show me all types of storage rooms. She is very nice and polite. And the price is fair.
