They are a hidden contender and have replaced my old childhood haunts. Plus you can buy the chili by the quart!!!

One of Fairfield’s hidden gems if you know what to order. Every establishment has their staple menu items and Five O Foods is no different. Like all of the other reviews mention, this place sells Kuhn’s chili by the quart. It also sells one of the best chili cheese dogs in Fairfield because of their chili. Highly recommended for anyone that hasn’t tried one before.
Other excellent items include their steak & cheese and their hot roast beef sandwiches. Top that off with the fact that the owners are super friendly and well liked in the community, and you have a staple corner store in Fairfield.

Full disclosure, I know the owner’s son, but this is totally random because I was looking for a place that sold Kuhn’s chili and the Five-​O is one of only a few I found. This place is in a little strip mall at the top of Tunxis Hill Road where it intersects Black Rock Turnpike. The parking is limited at lunch time as some reviewers have mentioned, so I snuck in a bit early to make sure I found a park. I called my husband to see if he also wanted a hot dog with Kuhn’s chili and he made that snorting noise like seriously is this a question?
I bought 3 hotdogs without knowing they are footlongs. So we probably could’ve shared two. The hot dogs are delicious. They come in a less than footlong length bun but I liked that — less filling up with bread.
The Kuhn’s chili is really good but my friend was right — it is spicy. So I actually got Kuhn’s chili and regular relish to offset the heat. It’s not crazy hot, but you can definitely see lots of red pepper flake in the mixture. Also, it’s not the consistency of chili like meat chili, it’s more like a relish or a topping. Really good though, and the Five-​O perfected the hot dog to bun to chili ratio so everything tastes great.
There’s a small sitting area but I did take-​out. They also sell some grocery items and cold drinks. The owners are very nice. You order first and pay when your food is ready. Very reasonable too. Highly recommend.
PS One other mysterious thing about the chili. It’s sold by the quart but it says on the jar No Refrigeration Necessary. I have no idea how that’s possible.

Kuhn’s chili sauce is an outstanding hot dog topping. Five O sells it in one quart containers for a very reasonable price (recently $ 10). Repackage in small containers for the freezer, then enjoy months of great tasting hot dogs.

All i know is, they sell Kuhn’s chili by the quart for 10 bucks so that in itself garners 4 stars from me!

The owners are very friendly and the food is reasonably priced. I personally love the famous Kuhn’s chili dogs and their cheese steaks. Highly recommended!
