Impossible to get anyone to come out of the office to help you. They send you thru the wood shop and up to the showroom in a very awkward location and even if you did find something you liked, good luck getting Mr. Personality in the office to help you. They seemed more interested in everything but the customer looking for a reclaimed wood item. Not worth the trip.

First, the service is terrible, these guys hang out in their office and sometimes it can be quite hard to communicate with them let alone have them help you out with anything. That being said, this is the best lumber yard in the area. They are about 20% cheaper than competition when it comes to decking and raw material. Thy also have the best selection in north jersey, a place where quality lumber is next to impossible to come by. They should be your go to, don’t worry about their staff not tending to your every need.

Went in for a maple counter top and ended up also buying a beautiful truss and doors for my home reno. Walking around the warehouse is a cool experience if you love the smell of wood and woodworking, and everyone is very friendly. I worked with Steve, Dave and Tim and all were super helpful with my orders. Well priced too.

Located in the Pio Costa industrial park(Building 10) which is basically behind the Montville Home Depot on Rt. 46 is a gem of a place for anyone looking for specialty lumber. I went looking for a 12 foot 6⁄4 Red Oak to use for a flooring transition. I could see how someone who’s not a contractor may be intimidated at first, there’s no front door or show room that you walk directly into. You’re in a warehouse in a small office but once you explain what you’re looking for they’re willing to hear you out. Between the guys in the office and in the warehouse I was able to select my rough lumber. For an additional fee their fabricator put it through the planer, rip saw, and table saw creating a custom made bevel. I couldn’t be happier and will actually seek out a project to put a custom touch on it again.

If anyone ever plans to remodel, renovate or build a home this place is an absolute must for all your wood flooring, mantles, crown moldings, ect. We got a beautiful hardwood floor there and a mantle made from reclaimed wood. The end result far exceeded our expectations! The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable which makes the experience that much better. Anyone who truly wants to create their perfect dream house will fall short if they don’t go to boards and beams for all their wood needs. Maria in the office is especially nice and she will go above and beyond to make sure your experience is as great as ours was. Great job guys! your product is amazing!

Just met with Steve and couldn’t be happier. I placed a relatively small order and he took an hour out of his day to personally give me a tour of his amazing facility. Steve and his staff are super friendly, knowledgable and genuinely interested in your project. I will never go back to the commercial lumber yards again! Thanks Steve! — Adam from Bear Mountain Carpentry Co.

Boards and Beams stands as the best lumber joint in the state… Yes. they are the best, most friendly and accommodating lumber facility around. Steve, the owner has a great personality. He gets his hands just as dirty as the apprentice, he’s always willing to help and answer any questions. He’s also got an incredible collection of machines! Then there’s Jeff. A giant person equally matched with patience and willfulness to help. I think i once asked him the price of every species of wood they carry… i thought he was gonna toss me into the drum sander! Nope. he hung out and answered all price calls and has given me some deals that I later found out was their actual price for the lumber??? In other words, they operate selling a huge selection of hardwoods, reclaimed lumber, softwoods milling services etc at like 40% less than anybody around??? How do they do it? who cares! All I know is I’m gonna make the trip out to Fairfield whether its a 2×4 or a 10′ 6×6 beam of Ash. Hell of place just to look at too.!! Also download their app. best, Jonathan Vincent
