Tried the Mule wine. It was amazing! This is a charming winery with a full size bocce ball court. Went with some friend and enjoyed hanging out there and drinking wine. Great for groups. Jody was great at explained the wine. She taught me about the different varieties they offer, and how it compares to other wines in the industry. I’ll definitely be going back with more friends in the near future.

I have never met wine growers more enthusiastic and knowledgeable about their wines. I really liked the Mule(red) and the Viognier(white). I am not usually a white wine drinker but their Voignier made a lasting impression– as did Jody, Jeff, Melody and all of the people working there. I can’t forget to mention the venue, which is a mix of old Fairfield(the early 1900 house which has a rich history — I was told that one of the Fairfield mayors lived in the garage that still exists at the property) and the new Fairfield(bocce ball courts and wood fired pizzas — which are amazing!). All in all, BackRoad Vines may be off the main road, but it is miles ahead.

Went to see a band here today, they advertised bbq & wine(for 25 $). Needless to say NOT impressed. They offered a baked potatoe bar & cheap ass nachos. The wine was less than mediocre & the owners and family were rude as f***!!! Will I ever go back you ask, HELLNO! They sucked, if it weren’t for the band & the cheese platter /olives /grapes… we wouldn’t have stayed.

Off the not so busy main road and not far from the two other wineries nearby, towards the very end of the road there lies this quaint home amidst a vast amount of land. I ask myself am I in the right place? Oh yes I am because as you’re driving down Julian Rd a sign indicates you are headed in the correct direction. Backroad Vines Winery. Walking in, I immediately felt that I was in someone’s home, kitchen almost all ready for the holidays. Except for the fact there were displays of their wines, the line up of wine glasses calling me over for the tastings. This is a winery after all, a fairly new one to myself and has only been out here since Mother’s Day of this year. On forward to the wine tasting. $ 10 for tasting fee of the five wines they have to showcase and fee is waived if you purchase a bottle. Usually the case for most wineries I’ve been to. The lady behind the counter who was very pleasant(Melody??) and helped me out even gave me a pour of a wine not included in the tasting list. I ended up purchasing that along with one on the list. They have something for everyone from the whites to reds and the red blends. Even the most discriminative of palates can possibly find one even for a table wine. By far, another gem added to the Valley with an awesome, informative staff to partake with about the up and coming, recommendations on dining and other hidden treasures that this local needs to go hunt down and Unilocal on. :) Can’t wait to make the short drive here again and try out more! Come through and judge for yourself.

Had no idea this winery was in Fairfield; great addition! The tasting room staff were really nice and down-to-earth. Diverse selection of wine to taste. Really enjoyed the sparkling wine they had in their tasting room today. Large outdoor seating area with games to play and they offered tastings outside as well as indoors. Looking forward to tasting different varieties of their wines next time.
