I’ve been meaning to try Caribbean Corner for a while now. It’s not on my normal commuting path so on a rare mid-week day off I popped in for lunch. Had a great goat curry dish. I look forward to returning so I can try the ox-tail.

I’m from the South Florida area — very close to Miami. I have been in search of some good Jamaica food in NOVA. Just happen to search Unilocal«again» and came across this one. I ordered a small brown stew chicken to be on the safe side. Not to spend too much money on something I might not like. Well I am pleased to say that I wanted more of the brown stew chicken! It had me feeling like I was on the island or back home under some palm trees. The flavors were authentic to the culture of good tasting island food. Will be back to try the other dishes! For those not familiar to the area there is a free 2-hour open parking lot across from restaurant(but not the garage). That should help in search for parking.

I genuinely do not understand some of the negative ratings. This food is authentic as you’re gonna get away from Jamaica in the VA areas. I have to go out Maryland or DC for authentic Jamaican food like this. You can taste the time and patience in each bite. The restaurant is a hole in a wall, but it’s comfy with Jamaican vibes. Even the structure of the restaurant screams authentic Jamaican vibes(imagine going off a Jamaican resort, to the real Jamaica with no tourist guides) those are the vibes I get. The food is extremely homey. I love it. Ppl critique way too harshly. For this much authenticity to be in a Virginian area, gets 5 thumbs up from me.

Having grown up in Haiti, I have been wanting to come here for a long time. I was blown away by how great the food was here, especially considering the price. I had the curry goat and jerk chicken with fried plantains, rice and peas, and a beef patty. It was all incredible, and definitely hit close to home even though it’s all Jamaican food. I plan on coming here a lot more in the future. It’s a nice little place you could just hang out at too, just listen to music and eat good food!

My husband loves jerk chicken and so we were craving it one day and found this place on Unilocal!Read the reviews, saw the pics, and prices and yup… we’re taking a drive to this place. It’s located in old town Fairfax(first time being in that area). Free parking down the street. This place was hard to find at first, and literally, it’s in the corner of a building. Very small but you can smell the aroma of the jerk flavor once you walk in. The prices of the dishes range between $ 6-$ 15 and you can’t go wrong with that! I orders the small jerk chicken and my husband ordered the larger jerk pork. Of course we both finished our meals and we had to buy the jerk chicken to go for dinner. That’s how good it was! The flavor of the jerk wasn’t too salty but the spiciness sure gave it a kick. But it was worth every bite. If you’re craving Caribbean food and jerk chicken, this is the spot to go.

Caribbean Corner is literally in a corner and really easy to miss. The inside is a classic example of «hole in a wall», but the food does all the talking. I’ve tried their Ox-tail, Jerk chicken, Curry goat, and beef patties. I hit them with the 4 star because of their Ox-tail which is the best thing they have. It is slow cooked for hours so the meat is super flavorful and falls off the bone. Combined with the Jamaican rice and plantains, it is well worth the money. Their Jerk chicken is why I couldn’t give them a perfect score. The jerk flavor just wasn’t there for me. I felt like I wasted my money because I could of got Ox-tail instead. My second choice here would be the curry goat! The patties tasted like your standard beef patties. Oh, and I almost forgot the delicious Jamaican cream soda! If you’re in fairfax, make sure to try the Ox-tail which is a must try. Ja feel? ;)

Until I visit Jamaica again… I’ll go to Caribbean Corner. Very courteous and laid back customer service… Irie! Tip: The parking lot is very small. Park across the street in the open/free parking lot.

Great beef patty, I wish that they do chicken curry patty as well. Chicken curry over rice is salty and great flavor, since they put it on top of the rice, you have to eat it right away. I would recommend to put the chicken on the small box instead of put it on top of rice. I would come back for the curry goat next time.

The curry chicken is really really good. The jerk is good as well. However– the place needs some fixing up to be more presentable. The patties were so dried out and burnt. Like really really burnt. Like really really really burnt… so anyways when I asked if they had any others I was told no and the guy(not the normal guy) just walked away. This was after it took him several minutes to see I was waiting for service. It is in a bad spot, but I will go back for the curry and jerk. The normal guy that is at the front is always very pleasant and friendly. So check it out, just dont judge by the cover.

Maybe I just had too high of expectations given the numerous positive reviews of Caribbean Corner(despite some concerns given some of the less than stellar reviews), maybe I just had little to compare to except Jamaican food I’ve actually consumed in Jamaica; regardless, either way, I was pretty let down by the lunch I had. I had considered going to Caribbean Corner for a long time since it kept popping up on my «nearby» searches on Unilocal, however, I could never really locate it and ended up somewhere else for lunch. I remembered that on Fridays they do a special Jerk Pulled pork meal, and, for the most part, the reviews of that dish were good and one picture of it online in particular made me salivate every time I looked at it. So I decided today was the day to visit and try the jerk pulled pork. I called and they answered the phone quickly, contrary to some other reviews regarding their hours. It was 12:45 on a Friday afternoon. When I placed my order they said 15 – 20 minutes. I walked from my office to pick it up, and I was a bit early, but it was ready by the time I got there. The box was steaming hot and they provided me with silverware and napkins. It looks pretty dingy inside, there are a couple of tables, but I’ll reiterate, it’s mostly a carry out location. While I was paying, several people came in after me so maybe it was just an off day or why would they be so popular, right? The small jerk pork came with either rice and peas(which were actually red beans I think) or white rice. Also in the box were 2 small plantains and cabbage. It smelled delicious, and I couldn’t wait to dig in! Let’s start with the good-the jerk sauce was really tasty, not overly spicy as some have alluded, and was a great addition to flavor the rice and peas as well as the pork. Also good-portion size. My meal came to $ 8 after taxes and there was a lot there. Also good-the pork that wasn’t burned or all fat was tasty and flavorful. Now on to the bad-several pieces were either all fat and inedible or burnt and inedible. I still got some pork in that was good, as referenced above, however, not enough to ever order that entrée again. The plantains were not good. Yes, they were like an «extra» but just sayin-very rubbery. Cabbage was nothing to write home about but wasn’t bad either. I would probably give them another chance and maybe try the brown chicken stew or jerk chicken but I think I’m going to hold off on visiting again anytime soon. My hopes were too high-had been looking forward to lunch all morning-and they were quickly dashed when Caribbean Corner did not live up to my expectations. his business if you received a freebie for writing this review, or if you’re connected in any way to the owner or employees.

Three and a half stars. The entrance is a door around the corner leading into the basement behind the Mediterranean bistro. Presumably they share the parking lot, but you’re better off finding a spot in a nearby lot or along the streets. Friendly service was happy to point out two nearby parks where I could eat my meal in nice weather. One communal table inside in front of a TV, within sight of the kitchen. A small order is appropriate for a conservative appetite or broad curiosity, I’d happily go large next time since they’re so affordable. Curry is mild, goat is as tender as can be expected. Oxtails are sliced thin and yields to plastic fork pressure. Plaintains were cooked through, not too dry. Tomatoes were fresh even if they weren’t super ripe, and the cabbage is nothing to write home about. Loved the rice and beans even more with saucing soaked in. Their hours are sadly quite short, but given the chance, I’d happily stop by again to try a beef patty, jerk chicken, and some of their daily specials.

5 Stars on the food, flavors, freshness, and satisfying portion sizes. This is the real deal. They can COOK! I ordered a large Brown Stew Chicken, rice and peas, and a small Jerk Chicken with rice and peas, and 2 coco breads to go. Delish. Piping hot. The Brown Stew was so flavorful, well seasoned with a hint of ginger and perhaps soy sauce undertones in the flavor, nice thick brown gravy to cover the rice and peas. Also came with delicatley steamed cabbage, and 2 slices of fried plantain. Yummy. I forgot to take a picture! I ate half for lunch, will eat other half for dinner. The small Jerk Chicken I haven’t really eaten, but I took a a small bite and it’s the perfect balance of well seasoned chicken with some spice, but not too much heat. I like the way they cut the meat. The meat is on the bone, but they chop it in a way that makes it easy to eat it off the bone, in smaller pieces which is easier to hold. Unique Caribbean style. Coco bread(sp?) was warm, semi sweet, and chewy. This is primarily a carryout spot so don’t expect a large sit down restaurant. There is one small table and a few chairs, so you wait until your order is called up. Once your order arrives, the gentleman shows you what you ordered to make sure its the way you want it. I really like that. Most carry-outs I’ve been to, they package everything up and you have to check it yourself, or you forget to check it and once you get home, you wish you had! Check the sign on the wall next to cash register which lists the daily specials. If you don’t know what to get, order a few small portions and have your own Caribbean tasting. You will be so happy you did! Can’t wait to go back.
