I went in to Nathan’s intending to purchase chlorine. I asked Mack to test my pool water — he rudely declared that I didn’t have enough of a sample yet started to test it… Then he said there’s too much chlorine in the water to test it. I replied, «Isn’t that fact a result in itself?» He was nearly barring his teeth and growling that he didn’t know what I meant by that! I promptly left and went to Leslie’s on Geeenback where I was greeted cheerfully and helped greatly to my satisfaction. I will NEVER, EVER give Nathan’s pool supply another penny of my money! That old grouchy turd needs to be put out to pasture!!’

My Polaris died so I needed to find a suitable replacement. After doing a lot of calling around and research on the internet I decided to purchase a polaris online but the one I purchased needed a booster pump. I discovered that Nathan’s had one in stock. I went down there on June 11th and dealt with Mack directly. He was condescending and rude to me from the get go so I was straight with him and told him I can get the part I needed online for half the cost so he needed to adjust his attitude to make me feel better about giving his business my $. He sold me the pump and I was on my way. Called another guy to come over and install it and found out that it was not going to work due to my set up. I called Mack and told him I would be returning the item and he argued with me and reminded me of the restocking fee($ 60). I went back to Nathan’s on Tuesday(July 17th) to return it and suggested that Mack waive the fee or meet me in the middle since he recommended the purchase without even checking out my set up. He said no and accused me of trying to rip him off! He also argued about the price I was charged for the pump saying that he had given me a better deal than that. He refunded the amount minus his ridiculous restocking fee and I was on my way home again. I decided to check my bank statement this morning and discovered that instead of refunding he had actually charged me an additional $ 306.06. He gave me NO return receipt so I had no way to dispute the charges with my bank. I contacted Nathan’s through their website and he made no attempt to contact me and offered no apology. I had to contact them and drive all the way back to the store to get my $ 612 + back from them. I will NEVER set my foot in his business again. The only nice things I can say is that the store is well stocked and George and Mark were reasonable and friendly! Mack needs to retire. He is a horrible person to deal with. Spend your $ elsewhere and save yourself the headache of dealing with this curmudgeon.

Great on selling you items, but has a horrible return policy!!! Bought a vacuum slider a month prior, tried it, used it, it broke. Owner told me there would be a restocking fee. NO wait, I will not return it because it’s not in ‘original’ packaging. HORRIBLE policy. The $ 40 bucks he would have returned, would have been worth this 1 star review. I will now go out of my way to pay MORE at Leslie’s!

I will never go back into this store, they were rude when i bought some parts like i didnt know what i was talking about then when i decided to go a different route Mac told me i would have to come back some other day cause the manager needed to do a return even though he was the owner? he was very rude and wanted to argue because he was upset that he was losing the sale. He grabbed my receipt and ask what is this suppose to do with this cause it dont tell him anything? it was there receipt!!!

I have been to other pool supplies for advice and chemicals. I have learned more at Nathans pool supply talking to them for five minutes then I did the others. They are experts, and although they appear a little gruff, they are excellent. Their prices are much better then others and they either have it or will order it. I saved over $ 149 dollars purchasing replacement filters here. I also buy liquid chlorine and other supplies at savings. I would highly recommend this place.

After being a loyal customer for many years I will not be back. Nathans has a knowledgeable staff, they have many parts in stock, but they have horrible attitudes and are completely inflexible on their«policies» even for very good, long time customers. I went in last week and bought a replacement leaf trap. I didnt get around to trying it out until the weekend. It didnt fit my hoses. I didnt get around to taking it back for an exchange or refund until Thurs of the following week when I was headed in anyway for more chemicals. I first off told that I was doing something wrong in that«of course this leaf trap fits these kind of hoses»…well, it didnt fit MY hoses and I wasnt making it up. I just wanted one that would fit MY set up, but what I got was a bad attitude. So they very grumpily said they werent going to return it because it SHOULD work with my hoses. I offered to take the unit home and take pictures of it not fitting if that was what was required(ridiculous) and again offered that I was not lying to them in order to just return some item. So then they said they would return the item but would charge me a 20% restocking fee as is there«policy» since I’ve had the item more than 5 days(by 1 day). I was flabbergasted. I was there to buy around $ 50 in chemicals, surely they would have made more in profit off that sale alone than the $ 6 restocking fee they were going to charge me. I asked if they could waive that fee for a good, loyal, long time customer… the answer I got was a very grumpy and curt, «NO». Fine, thats your«policy»? its my «policy» not to do business where my return business is not appreciated. never going back.

Okay, walking into Nathan’s is a little like walking into an old auto shop. There isn’t a whole lot of bright, flashy packaging everywhere, just a bunch of menacing looking pool equipment and parts hanging from the walks. The people who work here aren’t sparkly young salespeople who will try to sell you whatever product is hot this week, no, these are crusty pool professionals who will sell you what you need and dispense advice when needed and asked for. I’ve seen a few complaints that George(the manager) is rude and, yes, he is not a man of many pleasantries, and sometimes he can make you feel like a complete«pool rookie» but, hey, the man knows his pool water. One time he stopped me from buying something that I totally didn’t need. «Put that down, idiot, stop dumping shit you don’t need into your pool.» **That’s not what he said, but that’s what it felt like** Look, I’m a first time pool owner and it’s been a learning curve. Like many other first time pool owners, I was more than happy to dump chemicals into my pool, helter skelter, at the first sign of any trouble. Cloudy? Hand me that totally expensive clarifier! Sometimes pool rookies like me need tough love. Come to Nathan’s when you want to get serious about pools.

These guys know their pools and pool stuff. For certain. I’d driven by them for years, and was using Leslie’s instead. First time to Nathan’s they gave me EXACTLY what I needed and very quickly too. True, their prices weren’t as low as Leslie’s, but I’ll pay a little more to get fast, accurate service. Manager George is a little gruff, but it was clear to me he is true and honest. I needed some half-unions and a manifold for a Jandy filter, and he had them at the counter in less than a minute. I asked for some advice on cartridge cleaner solution, and he hooked me up with some spray on degreaser/descaler that worked great. Not a man of many words or many smiles, but he had all the right equipment at his fingertips. So much for using Leslie’s…

We used to buy pool supplies at Leslies where they have, on multiple occasions, treated us like idiots. They sell us clearly wrong filter supplies without checking to make sure its correct and usually dont know what they are talking about. They hire young guys that try to sell you products with a smile and a wink instead of knowledge. Anyway, Nathans actually has knowledgeable guys working in there. Some may be gruff and come off as rude, but who cares? They have a huge selection of supplies and can actually give you knowledgeable advice instead of just feeding you a bunch of BS.

Ok first off I agree with the other posting. My father used to go to Nathans since I was a child so I thought, ok, I will give this company my business… bad choice. The manager there is as rude as rude can get and condescending as well. He will not go out of his way to give advice on pool maintenance. Quality of service does not even deserve 1 star! I highly recommend Leslie’s Pool Supply for all your pool and spa needs. The store is bright, organized and well stocked. Cat the lady who helps me is awesome. She gives step by step advice unlike Nathan’s…don’t waste your time at this establishment folks, drive down Greenback a ways and visit Leslie’s! Nathan should close his store down, customer service is not a main goal here!

Went in looking for some products for my spa, they had an ok selection but I’ve seen much more in other stores. Employee’s were not friendly at all and were very rude when I asked for help and when I heard them talking to customers on the phone. I will be looking for another store to by my spa products…
