I am sitting down to write this review after much thought and consideration. I do not like to give one star ratings without addressing the issues with the business first, but I definitely gave them a fair chance. I think not posting a review at this point would be irresponsible on my part, as I have not been able to find ANY other reviews for this practice, except for on their own website. My review is for my overall experience here, since I never got to actually have any procedures done (thankfully).
My initial contact was when I stopped into their office while in the area to see about having a few moles removed, and we set up an appointment for consultation. At the consult (from across a desk), we discussed a few other «simple» procedures and the pricing for each. I was given a very good fee estimate and the assurance that these procedures would be much more quick and easy than I had thought, and could be done right in the office, so we scheduled to proceed the following week. Prescriptions were written to prepare.
That’s when things started going bad. When I got to the pharmacy, the pharmacist realized that my scripts actually had another pt’s name on them. So I had to run back and get them redone. When I took them back again, they were written for a strength that has not been allowed by the FDA for almost 2 years now. This time, Dr. Stefan drove to the pharmacy himself to correct this (for which I was appreciative for, but should have not happened in the first place.)
My initial procedural appointment was cancelled a few days before because apparently the nurse anesthetist’s husband surprised her with a trip, so she would not be there. Bummer, but I rescheduled. Then began trials of different combinations of medications for in-​office sedation. (I was to try them at home first to see how they worked.) Procedure was for the following week. There was very little to no pre-​op instructions given to me as a patient. Fortunately, I am a healthcare professional myself, so I knew to ask the right questions.
Day of procedure comes and I have my best friend rearrange her schedule to take me to the appointment and stay with me for a while after due to the medications I’d be on. As she’s pulling into my driveway, just 30 minutes before I was to be there, I get another call from the office stating they need to reschedule me again. This time, the surgeon is sick with a head cold. While I do not want someone operating on me at less than full concentration, most surgeons do not cancel their patients out without being VERY sick. This was a huge inconvenience to both my friend and I since we both had taken the day off, not to mention that I was already medicated.
I was told by the office staff that Dr. Stefan felt really bad and would be willing to reschedule and do the procedure at the surgery center a few days later at no extra cost to me. She promised to call back when she had it scheduled there, but then couldn’t get it scheduled. I called the following week to get yet another promise that she would call me back by noon that day. No more calls. Ever. I stopped in the following week to get a refund of the deposit I had already paid on my credit card. When I arrived, I was avoided at the desk for a while before finally getting my refund. When I asked why they did not return my phone call, I was told they had been very busy. To me, that’s not an acceptable excuse when you have a patient that has had nothing but issues already.
I really got the feeling that they had promised more than they could deliver, then got nervous that I might be a liability. I am so glad I did not go through with having any procedures done at this office. I am left with a really unsettling feeling regarding this practice. I have since found a wonderful plastic surgeon in Bryn Mawr and have had my moles removed for less than half the fee and in a much more simple procedure that only took 15 minutes, no sutures and NO sedation meds. When I asked about the other «simple» procedure (a tip rhineoplasty), I was advised that this was not at all a simple procedure, should NOT be performed in the office (but at a surgery center or OR), and would have taken 6 months to fully heal (as opposed to the «3 days and 3 steri-​strips» as was suggested by Dr. Stefan. So I opted not to have that done.
Please do your research before visiting this practice, and be very wary of anything that sounds too good to be true.
