I was looking online for puppies, and found the most adorable litter listed on Petfinder through RROC. My experience from the beginning was excellent. RROC is truly dedicated to finding the best forever homes. The application process took about one month, and I was able to adopt one of the puppies I saw online. She was 5 months old, spayed, almost potty trained, and well-behaved. She was easy to train, and socialized well with other dogs immediately. She is a favorite at daycare. I met Sharon Massey, who is absolutely dedicated to RROC. I cannot say enough good things about RROC from their rescue efforts to their volunteers to their foster families.

I knew I’d adopt from a rescue or a shelter for as long as I knew I wanted a dog, going on some 5+ years now. There are many, many of each to choose from throughout Colorado, and even just the Metro Denver area. One fateful weekend, I made The Dude stop at a PetSmart adoption event«just to look», and mostly because a coworker’s rescue was going to be there and I wanted to say ‘hi’. It was during this visit that Duder brought up truly, finally getting a dog. We walked around for well over an hour, even walking a few to get a feel. Retriever Rescue of Colorado(RRC) had one particularly cute fur buddy with a bandana ’round her neck(LOVE when dogs have that). After chatting with a couple of their reps, we were told the application process begins online, but to mention the dog we met while going through the process to see if we could get her. Keep in mind that no dog is guaranteed until you’re actually signing the contract. And yes, there is a contract. We went through the process: online application, phone interview, home visit, matching, foster home visit, and finally adoption. I’d have to look back but in all it took about a month. Unfortunately the dog we saw at the event was never even listed on the website and was adopted out at some point. FORTUNATELY, we were matched with another little sweetheart of a dog, who as I type this review is flopped over on the front room rug. Everyone we made contact with from RRC had the dogs’ best interests in mind. From the application questions to the home visit, to having separate«matching coordinators», I knew this was legit. Yes, they cost a little more than going through a shelter, but in our case we needed a dog that had been«pre-screened»(so to speak) with a cat, among other personality traits that aren’t always as visible in dogs coming from a shelter. I should say: if we had no other pets in the house, I would have gone to a shelter first, but we couldn’t take that risk with our Kittykins. Regardless, I could not be happier with going through RRC for our(first!) dog. We’ve only had the little lady since Sunday afternoon, but I am already most definitely in love. I wish I could say the same for the cat’s feelings, but she’ll get used to it. Shelter or rescue, I encourage others looking for a potential pet to seek from these sources before going through a breeder. I am confident in the abilities of the folks at RRC, and whether it’s a puppy, an adult dog, or a senior dog, I believe they can follow through matching the right dog with the right forever home. Thank you, RRC for bringing Lorelei into our home and hearts.
