US Post Office – Evanston South

I will avoid this US Post Office like a plague. If I have to I’ll go straight to the self service machine. I’ve gone on two occasions and both were very unpleasant experience. I agree with the other posts the employees should be all fired. There is 0 customer service here and employees are beyond obnoxious and incompetent.

I had to come back and write an update, and yes I’ve gone from one start to FIVE because there is a new manager in town, her name is Dee, and she has turned this place around, complete 180.
As noted in my previous review, I used to despise this USPS location and began avoiding it like the plague. I agreed with all the other awful reviews about how surly and inefficient the previous employees were who worked there. It would take them SO long to type in custom forms meaning sending anything internationally was a nightmare, and there was never any concern with the length of the lines… oh wait, this is meant to be an updated review, see how easily I get pulled back into ranting about the old place?
It’s really like a new location here — AS LONG as you get Dee. And she tells me she’s the new manager and this is her domain now, and if her bosses have any sense, they’ll keep it that way. She is super efficient, she knows her stuff, she’s professional, she’s friendly but in a no-​nonsense, let’s keep this line moving kinda way. I’ve only been in twice since she took over but both times despite being busy, and her being on her own, the line moved FAST.
So I feel like I actually have a functioning post office on my street again, which is wonderful, and I’m writing this review mainly in the hopes that the bosses will see and keep Dee around.

I agree with the prior posts. This place is the epitome of the Federal Government at work. These USPS employees will retain their jobs, no matter how poorly they perform. And, we, the taxpayers, pay their salaries. It will get worse before it gets better.

I agree with most of these reviews. I wouldn’t suggest everyone be fired, but I will say the woman who took my mail today was incredibly rude! The clerk took my large Manila envelope and dropped it on the floor next to her seat with a loud smack. I asked, is this what you usually do with the mail? And she said, yes.

This IS the worst post office I’ve ever been to. Not only was the help slow and rude when I was there, I called to question why my package hadn’t been delivered but didn’t have my receipt with a tracking number anymore. The jerk of lady basically said there is nothing I could do. Of course I know this can’t be true so I kept questioning until she finally gave me an 800 number. The main office said the Evanston office could look up my transaction through my debit number which would have my tracking number, so I called back. They have pushed back saying how difficult that is and they are busy all while still not helping. Apparently «busy» losing packages. I gave them more than 3 days before trying again and they still haven’t gotten to my issue. They are the absolute worst!!! Basically their attitude is they don’t like their job and are as least helpful as possible because anything more than that would require some sort of effort. I feel embarrassed that I used them and even more frustrated by the day. Meanwhile my package is nowhere to be found, so can probably chalk it up that their incompetent staff and managers lost it.

It is the worst USPS store ever! The employee is so rude and terribly slow! The employee even doesn’t know AU means Australia! USPS should fire those suck employees.

Never going back here again and it’s not because of the slow service. Today I saw how poorly the clerk was treating the 90-​year-​old-​looking-​fragile-​slow-​confused lady. Speaking to her as if she was a moron in the harshest tone possible. This place sucks. The mannerisms of the female employees are filthy and indecent.

Typical super slow post office with a perpetual line every time you walk in. How bout a stamp machine so we don’t have to deal with the lazy donkey behind the desk!

Yes, sometimes there are lines, but that just means we need this location to stay open. Please write your representative to keep Evanston Main Street Post Office running. It is perfect location near the train station and serves the Evanston South community.

Well, it’s just a retro branch post office. You get in line and deal with a live person (usually just one person, so prepare to be patient). Even if you get there just before they open up in the morning, you’ll be, at best, the third person in line. The reason it’s still here may be the small bank of P.O. boxes at the front and their unique convenience to both the Metra and CTA stations. And if driving, why fret about parking? It’s Evanston, where meters still accept nickels and dimes because each is worth just a enough minutes to get your chore done.

Downside: It’s a post office, and the employees act accordingly.
Upside: Occasionally they’re pleasant.

There is no automated machine here and usually, it’s just one person working and there is ALWAYS a line and it always crawls. Thank goodness there is a small parking lot nearby where you don’t have to feed a meter, but still, the lines are always long — they don’t always have the postage that the Davis branch has and their hours aren’t as convenient as the Davis branch.
