Eh… This is how I would describe it. Nothing special but ok. I had the cioppino which was ok. The broth was nice but everything seafood was frozen and one could tell that by the blandness. The bread was weak too. I was hoping and expecting better…

I met a friend here for dinner. He lives in Evanston and mentioned this is his favorite Italian place in town. I ordered the Linguini with clams and mussels and it was delicious. The only issue I had with the place was the area leading to the bathroom, which was pretty gross. The restaurant itself is lovely but if you are embarking on a trip to the bathroom, and I would suggest you don’t, it’s an area that strikes me as considerably in need of cleaning. Quite frankly, it was gross.

The food was okay and the service was really slow. I also do not think the restaurant demonstrated great knowledge of the menu. She told me there would not be sauce on my salmon and when my dinner came to me it was on a bed of vegetables that were smothered in sauce. Not the worst thing in the world but definitely not what I was expecting. Would I return to this restaurant? Maybe. I probably just did not order the«right thing» on the menu.

My wife and I used to go here back in college in the early 2000’s, and it was the best Italian spot in town despite some other places drawing larger crowds. We went there again last night for old times sake ten years later. My favorite dish was no longer on the menu(angel hair pasta with artichokes), but that wasn’t a problem. The waitress knew right away what I was talking about and said they could make it for me. It was delicious and brought back memories. The meatballs are still just as amazing as I remember too. You owe it to yourself to check this place out!

Small Italian place that is in my opinion 5 stars! I came here in the summer and was able to sit outside on a beautiful summer evening. Great food, great service, and it doesn’t break the bank. Super authentic cooking. I don’t think I have a single negative thing to say about this place. You should definitely check it out if you’re in the area!

Absolutely beautiful restaurant! I used to come here with my mother when she lived in Evanston. I was born in Evanston but raised in Arlington Heights so coming back to Evanston always felt good. My mother was battling cancer during the times we went together. Now that she is gone, is means more to me.

Updating my previous disappointment. The restaurant’s owner called me to apologize and to make it right. This impressed me.

My girlfriend and I were hungry and I wanted to try a new place. We parked and were walking and wandered in here on a Sunday Great food, hand painted décor, and reasonably priced. We had grilled Octopus appetizer and Spinach Lasagna & Tagliatelle entrée’s with a bottle of MontePulciano wine. Everything was great, my fiancée’ is from Naples, IT so if the Italian food is not good I get an earful :) Everything was great and the Crème Brule dessert was incredible… and I am not a ‘sweets’ person at all. Tax and 20% tip was $ 90, so I think that was pretty reasonable. Our server Miguel was very pleasant. I would definitely return again.

Today was our second visit in the past few years. It is a small, very cozy Italian trattoria. The food has been good both times. They have good, reasonable lunch specials. The service has been friendly and attentive. They play a lot of Sinatra music. which is fine by us.

Excellent service: waiters were extremely polite and the food was excellent. I ordered one of the lunch specials, penne paste with zucchini and chopped tomatoes(can’t remember the exact name of the dish). The pasta dish came out just right. In other words, not too oily or cheesy, and it had just the right amount of vegetables. They also gave me plenty of bread and weren’t overbearing, as is the case with the typical waiters seen on the east coast and in the Midwest. I never felt rushed and enjoyed every bite of my pasta. Highly recommended for vegie pasta.

I have been here many times over the years, and I have been consistently pleased with eating at trattoria demi. We’ve been here for dates, family events, and just a quick bite. We’ve tried many, many things on the menu, which have all been good-to-outstanding, but the stuffed gnocchi, pizza, and baked rigatoni have been standouts. The other night, wanting something lighter and fresher than pasta, I had the daily soup– a perfect and homemade minestrone– and a caprese salad, and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in ages. Great service and reasonable prices round out this lovely little Evanston gem.

Ordered lunch here, and it took 30 minutes from when I ordered to when my sandwich and chocolate cake was sitting in my lap! The food was great, nice and light, and the chocolate cake was yummy and awesome. The delivery guy was super nice too. Great place to order lunch and have it delivered fast!

I came here tonight with my man friend and it was excellent. I ordered the rigatoni ricotta and I hadn’t had a dish like that in a while. The ricotta blended nicely with the Mariana sauce and the sautéed arugula was a pleasant surprise. I had some Cabernet and it was delicious as well. This place is really cute, low key and reminds me of a classic suburban Italian restaurant!

I’ve been here twice for the lunch specials, my review is based on lunch. I like this place because it feels like a home cooked meal. The bread is baked in house the soup is hearty. The pasta is not fancy but it’s good and the portions are generous.

My sister in law and I went here for lunch on Monday. We enjoyed the portions of pasta, tossed salad and a really nice few slices of fresh bread with butter. I had the rigatoni primavera, with broccoli, olive oil and garlic. I would’ve liked more broccoli and less garlic, but it was good. The noodles were el dente, but i liked them. They could have benefited from more fresh vegetables in the sauce. The waitress was very friendly and accommodating, and the lunch crowd made the place seem half full. Great, fast service, good food, and a very convenient location.

It’s great when businesses follow up. I tried my wife’s linguini too, and was just bland. Not saying it was bad, just sort of blah. The sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce. The noodles had a texture that was fairly similar to when you overcook spaghetti. A little rubbery. And the meatballs were gross. They tasted much more like a cornbread consistency than meatball. The texture was grainy rather than meaty. We actually just pushed those aside. I’m not a chef so I can’t really comment on how to fix it. It seemed strange that the lamb could be so spot on while another dish seemed so «phoned in.» Perhaps someone just forgot something in the mix that night but thanks for asking for the follow up. Best wishes!

This restaurant is great, and one of my favorite places in Evanston. The atmosphere is really cute and romantic, the waitstaff are really nice, and there usually aren’t many people there, so it’s a great date night place. The Farfalle and Chicken is one of the best pastas I’ve ever had – it’s perfectly light and lemon-y, but still savory and delicious. The pasta is always cooked to the perfect al-dente texture, and portions are generous. The only thing I don’t quite like is the olive oil they serve with the bread at the beginning of your meal. It is slightly watery and fairly tasteless, as it doesn’t have any spices or herbs in it to enhance the taste.

You wouldn’t really think this place was top-notch from the looks of it. It sort of has the feeling of a takeout pizzeria that happens to have some italian dishes. But it is so much more! The caprese salad was insanely delicious, as was the salmon entrée. They can substitute any pasta for any dish, and even have gluten-free(and whole-wheat) pasta too. Service was excellent. Happy we stopped in here.
