So when the box says, «The Best Cake You’ll Ever Have», the expectations are pretty high. We had our first Cream Cake at Thanksgiving this year and next year, I think we’ll skip the turkey! Melissa from Cream is a Rock Star. Not only was our cake beautiful, the icing was amazing and the cake was the lightest, most flavorful we have ever tasted. The cakes are huge, but that’s ok because the leftovers freeze well and you’ll be happy to have a little stash! In fact, slices have been popping out of the freezer for the last week and they are as awesome as they were on Thanksgiving Night. Cream Cakes will be on our table for every special occasion. Thanks!!!

Cream Cake made my wedding cake, I found them on recommendation from a friend who also used them for her wedding. The good: The most important aspect of any cake is how it tastes, and cream cake is delicious! Next most importantly, at least where weddings are concerned, is price. I got one of their basic cakes(referred to on the website as ‘beer budget cakes’) and then some of what they refer to as ‘back up cakes’ as well, and it came out to $ 3 a person even with the extra charge for a cake topper support– that’s a great price for Chicago wedding cakes! Also, their prices are open and honest, listed right on the website. And, I wanted edible glitter on my cake, and after I found the stuff I wanted and dropped it off to them they put in on at no extra charge. The bad: Our wedding cake WASN’T PRETTY. The tiers were supported by white plastic discs that were set on top of each layer, sticking out from under each tier. They were not covered in frosting AND you could see the bits of frosting they used to stick the layers together sticking out, they didn’t bother to smooth them when they set up the cake. I posted a picture of it in the photos for this business. And, a smaller thing, but it bothered me: the tone this place is really strange. Their communication isn’t really bad– but it’s…weird. I still don’t know the last name of the woman who I dealt with at Cream Cake. Also, if you’ve been to their website, the tone of it is oddly negative, with a lot of writing about what’s ‘wrong’ other bakeries like this: «We had no intention of offering the same old buttercream frosted cakes that every other bakery makes, because buttercream frosting leaves a greasy, gritty film in your mouth that no one likes» It’s off-putting. Bottom-line: Taste being the most important factor, I’m happy we went with Cream Cake– but the appearance of the cake they made left a lot to be desired.
