been around before my childhood. on the boarder between CPD and EPD, can always be interesting. Somehow, someway the burgers here taste better. not to many places to eat but you’ll eat it fast and wonder if you should get another one.

This is the worst hot dog I have ever had, by far. The woman who took our order was generally unfriendly and not helpful. We were there on 01/21/2016 at about 11:00 am so they were not busy at that time. The hot dog was tasteless, the bun was cold and the fries are frozen and also tasteless. I just don’t understand the good reviews. I can’t imagine where or what kind of food these reviewers eat. Try almost anywhere else than Bills Drive-in.

I love Bill’s! Consistent quality and my all time favorite hot dog. My mom had been coming here since she was a kid in the 50’s. I’ve lived in Roger’s Park these last 15 years and there’s nothing like a morning in the garden and then breaking for lunch at Bill’s…it’s been a tradition and a favorite in our family for years. BTW, if you’re a regular here, you’ve likely been trained by the staff to give your order quickly. ;) My only wish is that they change the fries. They’re good but I’d love to see them do a crinkle fry or a better quality french fry. Thanks, Bill’s…you guys are great!

This is burger hedonism!!! If you like thin burgers stacked with cheese, get the quad cheese. This is sort an institution.

Locals have been coming here for years. There’s reasons why. Whether you order up a double, triple, or adventurous quad, you’ll have a great burger. Crisp finish to the thin patty in a good way. I was told to order it with celery salt. I added mustard and tomato too. Glad I did. Great flavor. Served in wax paper wrapped to go. Perfect with a chocolate shake on a summer day. Enjoy at the standing counter or out back at a picnic table. Ca$h only.

An Evanston landmark. There burgers are absolutely delicious. They make all there burgers fresh. Home of the quad burger and have pretty good variety of options if your a meat eater lol. It’s an take out hamburger stand with a couple of seats outside. Just a reminder they also only take cash, no credit cards at all.

Bill’s is truly an Evanston tradition… and also a landmark, being at the edge of town once you cross into E-town from Chicago. I didn’t eat McDonald’s or BK growing up, but my family loved this old burger joint where you got a good burger and chips(they didn’t have fries back then) or a hot dog. The burgers aren’t very big; in fact the patties are on the small side and thin, but you can do anything from a single up to a quad, at very reasonable prices. The hot dogs aren’t the real Chicago-style Vienna dogs, yet they are good… as long as you’re ok. with steamed and not grilled or charred. They have chili and a variety of toppings for both the burgers and dogs. Good milkshakes, too! It’s a very small space, standing room only, where you order at the register, get a number on your receipt, and they call you to ask what toppings you’d like. Service is fast and friendly. The downside is they’re not open late. They close at 7, and aren’t open on Sundays.

I love their burgers. They have great prices and great products. Fresh toppings and fast service. They have great shakes and malts too. Try their fries with celery salt!

Walked in & there as only one person inside. Workers were friendly, however the lady that rubg us up started an argument with the other workers… she was screaming & was just nasty. As, I stood there waiting for our food, I was looking into their fridge. Well, if the city inspector was out they definitely would’ve been shut down. Third shelf was half cheese & half raw hamburger patties. Fourth shelf had sliced onions & other items inside of a container. Maybe, instead of arguing someone should’ve realized what could be a costly mistake & rectify the situation! #wewontreturn

Ive been eating at bills for nearly my entire life. My pops used to pick it up all the time on the way home from work and you cant go wrong with the burgers and dogs. They have fries. And shakes. And all that non sense. But let me tell ya, back in the day it was only chips. And that was charming. Cheap and good. For first timers, you order the food, grab your ticket, then tell em what u want on everything when they call your number, dont ask for lettuce they dont have it. And everything does not include ketchup. Cash only my friends!

Love Bill’s. I’ve been going here for years. I always order either a cheeseburger or a hot dog with everything on it. I haven’t had a shake in a very long time, but they used to be good as well! It’s also very affordable. Do not expect to dine in unless you don’t mind sitting outside. There is standing room only. Also, expect to wait on the weekends and/or during peak lunch hours. And they close super early so don’t bother going after 7pm.

This place has been around since my mom was a young girl. It’s an oldie but goodie. I usually get a single burger or a hot dog, or both! And the celery salt is a must have… There’s something special about it. I hope the new owners maintain this place for years to come.

Grew up on this place since 1961. This place used to be clean and neat when Bill Ball was the owner. You can tell that the new owners are sloppy and not as particular as Bill and his crew were. The food is still pretty good but the ambience I recall is gone. Surely I don’t go out of my way to patronize this place like I did for so many years.

Few places endure the test of time, but Bill’s is one that survives it. The food is great and at affordable prices. The burgers are really great. The hot dogs make this place unique because they are not Vienna but that’s not bad. They can be a hit or miss with some but I like them. Fries and shakes are great too. Good for lunch

I love old school institutions that you can just tell have been around a long time the minute you pull up. I went here on my buddy Jay Ks’s recommended review and was very pleased with my triple cheeseburger. The patties are fairly small, which worried me b/c I prefer a thicker patty. But the burger was definitely awesome, and the price was right. Got a Chicago style hot dawg as well but was a bit less impressed by the dog. It was steamed and I do prefer mine charred but it doesn’t appear that they do char dogs here… please correct me if I’m wrong and I will go back and do it right. Love the prices here, they are more than fair and the food is terrific! If you’re in the area and in the mood for a dog or burger, please consider the local establishment over a nasty fast food joint!

This is a small walk-in place with no seating. It was pretty busy when I went even though they were getting ready to close. I decided to check them out because I heard that they had good shakes. I looked over the menu and the prices were very reasonable. I got a double cheeseburger special for $ 5.60: sandwich, fries and a drink. I paid $ 1.25 extra to make it a shake. The food was good and plentiful. I really enjoyed my strawberry shake. It was thick and creamy. I must add that I really appreciated the staff being so patient with me especially at closing. I’ll be sure to arrive earlier in the future.

Bill’s is my favorite burger ever. They’re thin, and seasoned just right, and cooked perfectly on a flattop. I usually get a double, sometimes a triple, with cheese, grilled onions, mustard, pickles, and black pepper. Nothing in the world beats it for me. A side of their great fries and a chocolate malt completes the trifecta of my favorite greasy meal in Chicago(or Evanston).

Quirky and cool local burger joint. It was pretty crowded Saturday mid-afternoon which was a good sign. We ordered a double burger and some fries. Note, everything on a burger doesn’t include ketchup. You need to ask for it. But I like that they’re changing up the standard set of condiments for a burger. The burger itself was quite tasty and the fries were good. Root beer was also delicious. I’d definitely come back here if I was having a craving for a good non-chain burger.

This probably was one of the few places I’d never gotten around to eating at in the Howard St. area, and finally got around to trying it while driving inbetween where I was assigned to work in Evanston and Chicago. The burger was very decent, but the fries were the type where there was something that was slightly lacking about them, but were tolerable.(but they are better than Steak ‘n Shake’s crappy fries) Tried a chocolate shake on a whim over getting a soda(and not knowing when I’ll ever be back here), and I did like that. It felt in the end like an improved version of McDonald’s, and it’s ironic to think McDonald’s started as a walk-up burger stand with no seating, just like this place is. Walking in felt like going back several decades in time, but I loved how cheap their prices were. I’d be very open to coming back here in the future.

I grew up on this place. Simply the best hot dogs and burgers period. I put their burgers up against anybody, including all the high end restaurants the Bozo from Chicago Magazine rated recently. Yes their triple or quad burger is better than the $ 15 Prairie Moon bun less«#1 burger in Chicago» as rated by the Bozo. For $ 15 you could feed a family of four at Bills. No there not Vienna hot dogs and that’s why they are so good! The family that owned this place has been serving the same dogs since at least the fifties. That’s as far back as I can go. I can remember when they didn’t have fries and fountain drinks only bags of chips and cans of pop. New owners a few years ago but the same great food. The BEST hot dogs on a hot bun with mustard, relish, onion, celery salt and thin sliced tomatoes so as not to over power the taste of the dog. Peppers on request. The BEST burgers/cheesburgers from a single to a quadruple on a slightly toasted bun cooked to order. The patties are thin and you need at least a double. I love the crunchy edges on the bun and the cheese oozing out of the cheeseburgers. No there’s no place to sit down and eat… stand at the crowded counter or eat in your car or at a picnic bench outside. Who cares where you eat, it’s what your eating that’s important. Priced right, great value and taste.
