Pacific Outfitters of Eureka

On my last visit to Pacific Outfitters, I had the pleasure of meeting a sale associate named Michael. Michael saw I was in need of tackle for Steelhead fishing. He showed me three common rigs, helped me pick out tackle, and then took me to a back room and showed me step by step how to tie my rig. The rigs were home grown rigs. Something you would never find at Big Five.
Also, Michael showed me the tackle and left it on the shelf. He approached the whole interaction as information only and did not pressure me to buy anything. He should me how to use the guide to match hook size to bead sizes for future purchases. The whole interaction was amazing and very casual. It felt like I was shopping with a good friend, not a sales associate.

I went to this store today to get a couple of rifles bore-​sighted. As I approached the firearms counter, I was immediately acknowledged although the associates were busy with other customers. I was shortly assisted, and they properly cleared my rifles, and I was told that they would be ready to go in 30 minutes. I came back not long after 30 minutes has passed, and was escorted to Dean, who had sighted in my rifles. He expressed a great deal of pleasure in my rifle builds, and explained exactly the procedure that he took to sight them in. I then went downstairs to the cashier, who conducted my transaction with courtesy and efficiency. I left the store with a very positive impression regarding my overall experience, and will definitely return for my local firearm needs. Thank you, Dean, and the others whom I had encountered. You obviously take pride in your jobs, and believe me, I’m a very critical patron. A++ to you all.

My mom and I went looking for a north face jacket for myself and trying to find something for my dad to carry his fishing gear, not really knowing what we wanted. We found the north face section and the jacket I wanted on our own. They had a great selection! When it came to the finishing department we were clueless. My mom found Thomas and asked for help. He was absolutely AMAZING! He showed us all kinds of different options, in different price ranges and why each one would be beneficial. He was able to answer our questions and was extremely helpful. It was a nice change coming from a previous store we came from to have such a friendly sales person! Thank you Thomas for your all your help!

I got to the store at 6 pm (closing time) they let us in the door, bought my stuff in the sporting department. The guys were all great and were very helpful. Thanks for letting us come in late.

I’ve only bought archery gear from here, so my review is just focused on that.
Dean is great. He knows his stuff, is super friendly and helpful. He’s always gone above and beyond when I’ve been in there.
However, when he’s not there, there’s a younger guy who fills in the in archery department who is useless and downright insulting. Last year, I was helping my younger sister pick out arrows, and mentioned the type I used — 1515s. The guy came up and told me that I was wrong, there was no such type of arrow and I replied that I knew what type of arrow I had, I had shot with them the day before and had bought them there a few months previously. His answer for that was that I must not know very much about archery. At the time, I was competing on a collegiate archery team and when I told him so, he told me to go ask my coach, since I was wrong about the type of arrows I had. I left and to this day refuse to buy anything from there unless I can deal with Dean directly.

Went here looking for water proof hiking boots. They had a good selection– including Keens, which are my personal favorite. The attendant in the shoe area was knowledgeable in answering specific questions about the shoes and helpful in my slow decision making process. We were able to easily redeem the Unilocal coupon for $ 15 off our over $ 100 purchase.

Guy in footwear (Tom?) was super helpful even when he knew I was just trying boots on and not planning to buy anything quite yet. Had a great conversation about hiking in Trinidad. Thanks :)

They refill fuel bottles here. I have a 30 oz MSR fuel bottle, and didn’t want to shell out 15 bucks for a gallon of camp fuel since I was in the middle of a bike tour. I think I ended up paying less than 4 bucks for the refill. ⁵⁄₅ would refill here again.

We booked a kayaking tour with Jeff. All of us pretty inexperienced. He did a great job of walking us through the basic steps and guiding us all over the bay. Highly recommended if you want a different view of our gorgeous coast line.

This is a great «REI-​like» store with a huge inventory of outdoor gear for backpacking kayaking, cycling, etc. only top brand stuff and a staff that is friendly and helpful. I needed gas for my jetboil and walked out

Place was busy. Was greeted as I came in the front door. So far so good. Went upstairs looks like three guys in the gun dept. They all were helping customers. One was just chatting the whole time. I waited patiently right at the Counter for over. 10 minutes no one even said they would be with me soon. When the guy behind the counter helps a young women that had arrived after me I didn’t say a word. 5 minutes later he started helping another young lady. I was tired of waiting. I turned around and walked out. So much for shop local.
Thank you Aaron for your response. As much as I would love special attention. I think it would taint the review process. What I will do is give the gun shop another try. When I do I will update my review.

I go here for all my winter gear. They also have a fantastic selection of women’s clothing in all sizes. They do tend to be pretty pricey but they are selling higher end brands.

Definitely one of the better sports stores in Eureka. I like the fact that most of the staff is knowledgable about their products. They are always able to recommend the best product to fit my needs whether it be hiking or snow sports.

If you need a gun or bullets avoid this place! My husband and I stood In front of 3 employees waiting for help while they discussed what they did on Saturday, for atleast 7 – 8 minutes, one of the guys looked like he was 12 years old, we finally had enough and was about to walk out while another employee asked if we needed help, as we were talking the kid rudely yelled across the floor to the guy that was helping us asking when he was going to lunch, totally interrupted our service, well they didn’t have the bullets we needed but the employee whispered he was selling his own stash next week! Ugh, this place is awful and we will buy our amo elsewhere, with so much competition in eureka with this kind of service they won’t last much longer hopefully!!!

When I ask to look at an AR15, don’t assume I won’t buy it just because I’m not old. I also don’t like it when I know more about the firearm and accessories than the salesman. The pricing and service of most items in the store is sad at best, I ended up buying an IDENTICAL weapon from Redwood Marine for $ 300 less, and they at least let me touch the gun.

I was not a regular to begin with and when I chose to buy my first shotgun here I was disappointed that the sales clerk felt the need to assemble and disassemble my new gun, in the process he stripped a screwhead on the gun so when I handle the gun it I get scratched by a large burr he picked up… He tells us he can order a new one and 6 weeks later we are told it is a factory issue and we should go directly to them. Really? You screw something up in shop doing something you had no reason to do and expect ME to fix it. «Oh wait, heres a $ 20 gift card! No we still won’t fix what our employee did but hell you can still shop here!»
I could have gone to the Bay Area and paid less but I chose to shop local. There is no question in my mind why people shop online anymore around here.
Be aware that MOST of whom they employ are wanna-​be kids, looking to handle equipment they can’t afford, and have no respect for. I will not shop here again. Very poor after-​market customer service.

Wide selection. The staff loves what they do and is incredibly knowledgeable about their products. Would go back here in a heartbeat.

I have to say, right off the bat here, I had some issues with the bike shop part of the store. I came in looking for a mountain bike, and left with a decently priced Cannondale. Unfortunately the fork was not working, and when I pointed this out to the associate he told me it just needed breaking in. Two fork rebuilds later (covered by warranty so no charge) I finally got the bike running smoothly. The people are knowledgeable and want to help. Greg has been very helpful in particular in getting things settled between Cannondale and the store.

I’ve only bought hiking boots here, but they have the largest selection with the best prices that I could find in the area. I got a great deal on my hiking boots when I bought them on sale, and their regular prices for other high quality boots are the same as the huge chain stores (with shipping, anyway).

Eureka’s version of REI, a bit pricey, but the selection is great.
