Went here for our anniversary and loved it. Yes it is a bit spendy but the food and atmosphere was lovely. The owner came by the table to check on us and they even sent out a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. The food was amazing but when they claim spicy they mean it! Over all I really enjoyed this restaurant and I can’t wait to go back.

The owners are the best, the food is just as good! The Jerk Chicken is so good, I can’t seem to order anything else.

We returned on our anniversary. Don’t let the somewhat steep price of the shrimp and crawfish etouffée put you off – not only is it excellent, but the portion they give you is big enough to split with your dinner date.

This place is a must go when in the area. The sweet tea is fabulous along with their different lemonades. We love the jerk chicken and creole pork roast. The jambalaya is so big it seems like the bowl is on automatic refill. Every soup we have ever had is delicious. Nicholas and Desiree are very friendly and nice.

AWWWWWWWWFULLLL!!! We went there once before but has gone way down hill. First of all the waitress was horrible.(the blond haired one) then the food. First of all there was only three tables sat(great for a saturday night) and it took almost a hour for our terrible food. I ordered the garlic beef confit and if i wanted a piece of beef put a crock pot for a day that turn outs to be a flavorless waste of meat i would have asked my five year old to make it. And what kind of waitress starts vacuuming while people are still eating!!! DONOTEATHERE

This restaurant rocks. It’s nice to see a change of flavor. I’ve been coming here a long time with my baby girl, and have always been treated great. It’s good to understand that it is a small family run restaurant. Mamma Janice being the matriarch, with her daughter and son in law working with her. Also Sweet Mammas husband doing the behind the seens work smoking some excellent barbecue ribs, along with who knows what else. Yes I’ve been there on good days and not so good days, but you have got to give them credit for being different from most of the other restaurants in Eureka.

The worst customer service I’ve had in a long time. This waitress gave such bad customer service it almost ruined a trip to Eureka. The server was extremely cold and in a rush. Probably because she was waiting every table herself, but the place is the size of a dorm room so I don’t understand the hardship. If you call placing a few pictures of african-american guitarist on the wall and covering a mirror with beads so as to make patrons think all soul food originates from New Orleans then they can check that box too. The waitress was sweaty, breathing hard, and covered in tattoos which did not make eating anything on the menu seem appealing or appetizing. Save your money. This so called soul food restaurant only thrives because of the location and the people that have given it better rating obviously don’t know real soul food. Just look at the pictures… its worse in person.

Food was great my friend chicken was full of flavor and crispy. Cooked perfectly ! I’m such a picky person especially with greens but here they are sooo good. When I went they were super busy I got the last table they had. Only one waitress so it can be a little much for get at times but I’m not complaining. Ice tea is great too! When you leave it’s like leaving grandma house the owner hugs you thanks you for coming. She is such a sweet lady. I will return phone order in first so you Dont have such a long wait time.

Best Cajun Fusion food ever! The dining atmosphere is like you were home — waiting for Mama to make you feel good food! Every smell that came from the kitchen delighted our senses. We will definitely go back every time we are in town — recommend that you stop by and try Mama Janisse’s delicious recipes!

Took a trip to visit with partner’s family and we all had a nice dinner out to see Mama J. And let me start by saying I am a southern ad the fried okra was awesome for an appetizer! The palce is cozy and the vibe is very family fun and friendly. The portions are a great size for the price and everything is made with a little bit of love. If you are a soul food lover and are in Eureka you have to go and hit this place for a great meal.

Fantastic! Excellent service and sincere love we felt here. What an honor to meet mama Marie and her daughter. Crab cakes, fried pickles and catfish were all awesome. What a wonderful 2 hours we had enjoying great food and warm hospitality. Wish we could have ordered everything on the menu. Guess we will have to come back…

I really enjoyed the food here. I wanted to try this out because I saw the restaurant in Diners Dives and Drive In. The Shrimp and Crawfish Etoufe was to die for. I wanted to finish it but I was full. The portions they give you is awesome.

Tried this place on a whim while passing through Eureka. Very tasty, well-spiced cajun food with VERY generous portions. Lots of gluten free options that are clearly marked, if you’re into that sort of thing(I am… stupid genes!).

We watched a video from Diners Drive-ins and Dives on our way to Eureka California. We knew immediately we would try this restaurant. We had no idea what a special experience we would have. The entire staff was very inviting which made us feel like part of the family. We were able to learn about the history of the restaurant and that made it clear how they can produce Creole food that rivals any in Louisiana. Service was quick and our waitress was able to suggest the perfect beers to compliment our meal. We met Mama Janisse and invited her to pull up a chair. It is amazing to converse with an owner who is genuinely interested in their patrons. During our conversation I mentioned that since I moved from Southern USA to California — «it is hard to find sweet tea in many restaurants and it reminds me of home.» Within a couple minutes we were given complimentary glasses of sweet tea — they wanted to make sure we experienced a little piece of home during our road trip. We will make sure to visit next time we are in the area.

The waitress was able to manage the entire floor by herself, but she had no sense of southern hospitality. The Jambalaya was basically hot dogs, rice and tomato sauce. The sausage seemed like something really cheap out of a package. Maybe there was a carrot in there, some canned corn on the side. Catfish was heavily over-salted. Fried Chicken was also low quality meat, batter soggy, mashed potatoes watery. Digestion process was laden with regret. Sorry guys, but kindness is a poor substitute for quality.

I will continue to say«no» when people want to go here. At last time I was here it took 2.5 hours to get food. It has taken longer and longer to get served, and the people who run it are cold, rude, and have no care for customers. The owner is nice, but the staff is almost evil. The food is good, but it tastes so bad because of the wait and presentation.

Ok I have to give this way less stars than I want. I love the food. It’s not nearly as soul food as you’d expect, but it is all amazing. When mama Janisse is there it’s an excellent experience. However, the last few times I’ve gone or called she wasn’t there, and I was treated horribly. The staff is very rude. I had them ask me if I was going to order or not after spending 25 mins on hold. And by hold I mean they set down the receiver and walked away. The prices are also very outrageous. I wish it was more affordable so I could go more often. But I’m not going to keep doing if the service doesn’t change. IFMANAGEMENTISREADINGTHIS!!! Please, I love this place. It’s one of my favorites. But the staff is very rude. If they are just ignoring you and not refilling your glass when you’re the only table, they’re snapping at you and demanding you order or not after claiming it’ll be an hour wait for take out. What now?! If you’re going to charge this much, I demand better service. Especially this type of food. You want a warm welcome. No one is more polite and welcoming than the south.

We decided to try out Bless My Soul Café since we were craving something different from the routine vacation American food. We also know that this restaurant was on TripleD so this is a must try. Upon entry, we were not greeted as we hoped. There is only one waitress running around. She finally acknowledged us and told us to take a seat. The menu has a very wide variety of seafood, chicken, pork, beef and everything inbetween. The food took a bit to come out but it was worth it. The creoles we ordered were off the hook. We had the seafood creole and the chicken creole. Both definitely recommended. I got the chicken with the sweet mustard sauce and it was pretty good. The chicken was a bit dry but the sauce made up for it. I would come back again :)

No issues with wait time on a Saturday night before Vday, got a table immediately and got food within 20min of ordering. Specials on the blackboard up front, some good deals as well as some interesting menu items. I ordered the jerk chicken(single) with cabbage. I really liked the chicken with the banana glaze on top, although some parts were a bit tough though. The cabbage was too oily and peppered, did not finish. Entrée also comes with corn biscuit, which is warm and smells amazing, but not enticing enough to finish. The SO ordered fried chicken with potato mash, the latter buttery and creamy but the former lacking the soul he was hoping for… making his meal overpriced in his mind. He’s a KFC kinda guy… Staff was very friendly, sweet mama janese made it a point to say hi and welcome us into her«home.»
