It was just alright. The service was really good and friendly. The food was mediocre. It looked great, big portions, but was very disappointing. Very rarely do I feel like Unilocal has led me astray, sadly this is one of those times.

Made a reservation for an early dinner for two on a vacation to Estes Park. I loved this place! We were seated on the porch, with a view to die for. I had the bacon burger(cooked medium) with fries and it was perfectly prepared. The fries were well-seasoned, crispy outside, thick cut, so good. I don’t drink much at altitude, so I can’t speak to their drink menu, but the food and view are worth the trip. Waiter was polite and attentive.

Amazing dinner! Must order the onion rings, they are the best we’ve ever had. Service was great, and the patio had amazing views. Highly recommend!

Wonderful views, food, and brews! Tavern 1929 Restaurant is nestled just outside Estes Park in Colorado inside a lodge. We came here after hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park and we’re glad we stumbled upon this place to fill us up after hiking. We all enjoyed local beers and ciders and munched on chips and queso. The chips weren’t anything special, but the food made up for it. The Buffalo Reuben sandwich came on perfectly toasted rye bread with sliced buffalo, sauerkraut, swiss, and beer mustard. The fries came hand cut and covered in sea salt. I don’t think I said anything for several minutes because I was in a happy place enjoying this meal so much! My husband and cousin also devoured their Mountain Man Meatloaf, filled with all sorts of game meat. It must be the name of the meal that drew them to it because my husband never eats meatloaf. Good job Tavern 1929! We sat inside at a window table because it was a little chilly and windy outside, but the patio seating outside makes for a pleasant mountain setting to have your meal.

The view alone is worth a star! Make sure you ask either for the patio or an edge table inside. Service started out slow — waiter forgot drinks, didn’t offer or bring bread, was nowhere to be found when we needed a spoon, etc. We had the shrimp appetizer. The sauce was yummy — the shrimp were tasteless. They had obviously been boiled in water and then put in the sauce. Too bad. Everything luckily picked up from there. The kale salad was delicious! House salad a little more interesting than your run of the mill offering. The elk medallions were perfectly prepared — tender and tasteful. We shared the bruled key lime pie — a sweet treat to end a great meal.

We had our daughters small wedding dinner party at Tavern 1929 in Mary’s Lake Lodge. Everyone was so accommodating, especially Craig the restaurant manager. He helped us set the tables so everyone could see each other and have a great conversation. Adeline our server did an outstanding job running back and forth from the bar! We ordered from lasagna rolls to elk chops — all the food was amazing! Plus Craig recommended a great bottle of wine for me! Great service — Great food — Amazing views!

Hard to find in Mary’s lake lodge by the lobby. Onion rings are amazing. Balsamic duck and elk chops were great. Views awe-inspiring. Go. Is on the expensive side. Great for a date night but our kids liked it too.

Lousy food, we asked to sit on the balcony but we were put inside because the inside waitress did not have enough tables? Lousy food, small burger, we asked for rare and it came well done$ 48 for 2 burgers a beer and a water… Regrettable.

Had a good experience here. Food and service were great. Neat lodge ambiance. Beer brewed in house wasn’t great but had an impressive number of varieties so didn’t try everything.

Great service from our waitress Addi! I got the Fish & Chips, my wife got the Mac N Cheese & we got the Pretzel Appetizer. It was all great tasting. Had a small problem with flat soda and Addi was very apologetic and got it corrected. Thank you Tavern 1929!

Stopped into this fine establishment today after my fiancée and I went for a hike on deer mountain. We had two great beers(Pilsner and Hefeweizen without lager yeast). Solid beers. Then, we just had two appetizers(bacon corn chowder and chipotle chicken wings). Everything was very great including our bartender David. We will be back.

I came here on my first night in Estes Park. The food left something to be desired, but the service was great. We drank good beers and tried their warm cider, which they gave us for $ 3 since it was the end of the night. The cider was delicious. I would come back for drinks, if I’m in the area.

Great find! Annoying they don’t have a sign by road or even at restaurant. We literally drove right by the place and didn’t know it. Service started slow but overall it was okay. Beers were excellent, they source a lot from brewery in Loveland. Very confused about other reviews saying beer wasn’t good. Had 2 varieties and both were so good, I asked where they come from! Bloody Mary’s were $ 10 but they were enjoyed. Entrees were mostly hits. My meatloaf was very good. Chicken Carbonara was also quite tasty. The trout was bland however. Needed more sauce and we had to ask for lemons. Lastly my wife ordered Seafood Oscar. It had low quality crab meat that my wife found very fishy(Not lump or jumbo lump) Salmon and risotto were cooked well though. Presentation was nice on all dishes.(I took photos) Overall this place had good drinks, pretty good food, and a fantastic view! Give it a try.

Trying to find a decent place to eat in Estes Park, CO for dinner can be challenging. This place while in a great location, and great service wasn’t without it’s own problems. The Good: The location and the view can’t be beat, really great views, and you don’t feel like you are walled in somewhere. The service was outstanding and the wine/beer selection is very good. We were seated right away and our waitress was attentive, but not hovering. The menu has a decent selection, and pretty much anyone can find anything. Not pages and pages of items, and not three items as some restaurants in this area like to do. The Bad: The food was okay, but as others on here have written my dates steak was over cooked, which seems to be a theme in this restaurant. The Beef Tenderloin Au Poivre was medium well done, and the pepper on it, was completely dominating everything, and had no sense of balance on the plate(according to my date). I had the Elk Chops, which were good, but not knock you down great. So, I would recommend this place, but would temper expectations that this will be anything out of the ordinary on your plate.

Finding good food in the mountains is always tough. Food is okay. I give the three stars because it’s an awesome location. We had dinner on the porch on an amazingly beautiful night — seriously couldn’t be beat. We will definitely come back again.

Once again, Unilocalers didn’t steer us wrong. Our group of four came in at 9:30pm and were promptly and graciously greeted and seated with no pressure that the kitchen was closing soon. Dinner came out promptly. Very well prepared. Two chicken fried chickens, a prime rib French dip and a chicken fried steak. Brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries were the sides. All delicious. We will definitely come back.

Huh. Beautiful location, but cruddy service(after 10+ minutes, and having had several employees pass by us and ignore is, we had to go in and be like… uhhh… is anyone coming over?) Food was mediocre. Buffalo Reuben was very good, but the BBQ chicken sandwich was slimy. I ordered a flight of beers and all of them were fairly rank. Meh.

Totally FANTASTIC place! 1929 old lodge feel and charm, insane views, and fantastic food! I had their cheese burger with hand-made chips, and my buddy got the special that night, which was trout over wild rice. Everything was extremely well made and delicious. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu, friendly, and fast! This was my second time in Estes Park, and really wanted an «old-school» Colorado lodge experience with a great view. This place far exceeded my expectations, and the dinner was simply awesome to boot; so glad we came here!

I had the Elk chops and she had the mountain man meatloaf. Both were delicious. The elk was cooked a perfect medium rare to rare. The brussel sprout side dish was the best roasted sprouts I have had. I also had their in house double IPA which was well balanced, smooth, and not overly hoppy. Service was prompt and friendly. The waiter knew how to help me select a beer for my palate. The only downside is that we were seated near the kitchen, which was a bit noisy. The dining room was not full, but when we made our reservation I guess it was one of the few tables they could assign. I think they could make better use of their limited dining space. Overall it was a very nice dining experience, and I hope to come back again!
