Pretty disappointed about this place. First of all you have no waitress service there. No greeting at the door. No refill for drink. And the chili has no flavor. We got waffle fries and it was better than the chili. We will NEVER go back to this place again.

I’ve been here a few times for lunch. It is SO fast! There is a board with menu options, you order at the counter, walk down the line and they hand you your food at the end. I appreciate that Gold Star & Skyline offer hot sauces– but this place has a variety of hot sauce to choose from: Frank’s, Texas Pete, and an unknown(perhaps Dixie Chili) brand. I personally appreciate the choices. The first time– I got a coney and a gyro. The gyro was alright– but I knew I would stick to the coneys in the future. The coneys are literally piping hot! The bread was so soft & fresh it melted in my mouth and the chili is not as sweet as other local options– which I really like! The second time– I went coney all the way. My only complaint was that they went a little too heavy on the onions for me. I like onions– but not quite as many as they added this go round. Next time– maybe I’ll actually try the chili on spaghetti… but maybe I won’t. What I do know is that there will be a next time!

Sorry Cincy Chili chains, Dixie is by far the BEST Cincinnati style chili! Wish I lived closer! This location is an order at counter then seat yourself style. It has a modern diner like feel with a friendly staff. But most importantly THEFOOD, they have a huge menu. I haven’t tried as much as i’d like because my addiction is the 6-way: Chili, Spaghetti, Beans, onions, cheese and… wait for it… GARLIC! OMNOMNOM!!! I’d also step up to say they have the best sweet tea as well, AND the best Greek Salad. The croutons are home made, as is the dressing, and the feta cheese is a plenty. Its huge and a nice mix of a variety of greens.

When you have had one too many skyline or gold star cheese coneys give this a try for a different twist plus they have a larger variety of food choices than the other two.

I went here for lunch with my co-worker Brett and my sister Mishell. OMG!!! sauce on the chili was awesome. I am a huge Skyline fan. Now I’m a Dixie chili fan. I ordered the chili 3 way and 2 cheese coneys. My sister ordered the 5 way. I also ordered the salad. I not a salad fan, but that was good. Friendly staff. Will be back again.

I love this place! I have my whole life! The coneys, three, four, and five ways are awesome! Best cincy style chili in my book! The plain chili is great too. Drive thru at this location too… Very local and staff is great to serve!

I’d take Dixie Chili over Skyline and especially Gold Star any day! My absolute favorite is the Alligator! Makes my mouth water even thinking about it. Prices are great and the staff is friendly and professional.

My first experience with Cincinnati chili. It was ok, but I make better at home. Waffle fries were good and the place was clean.

Drive-thru vegetarian chili-cheese(waffle) fries on a rainy Monday morning = deliciously perfect! This was some of the best veg. chili I’ve ever had. The use fake meat crumble and it totally worked. We were in Cincy for the weekend and decided we had to have chili since it seems to be the thing to eat there. There were Skylines everywhere, but after looking at their menu, their veggie option just didn’t seem super appealing since I wasn’t in a beany mood. Dixie Chili is a beanless vegetarian chili and it was delicious. It tasted sweet and spicy(as in all spice, not hot). The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because we didn’t actually sit down in the restaurant. Hopefully, I’ll be back soon to update that.

I like a good Cincinnati style chili but I found Dixie pretty bland. The waffle fries were good, as previous reviewers have said, and they do pile the cheese on — but the chili itself was watery and had little flavor. I round up to 3 stars because they have a pretty extensive menu so people who don’t like their chili might like their deli foods. The restaurant was friendly, clean and pretty inexpensive.

Staff were very pleasant especially for having to work the late night shift. Customers were even very friendly. Food was served quickly, fresh and hot. Being from Canada the chili was really unlike any that I have ever had before. The cinnamon would take a little getting used to but I would take the time. Old building with some character and a decent amount of seating. Greek waffle fries I would skip next time in favor of the 3 way fries. Cheers to a pleasant evening!

Currently, my exhaustively researched chili rankings are organized like so: 1) Camp Washington, 2) Skyline, 3) Dixie, 4) Gold Star, and a distant 5) Empress. Now, with Dixie so far down, one wonders why I’m giving it five stars. Well, the devil’s in the details on this one. See, Dixie Chili may not have the best actual chili in town, but it does have some advantages the others sorely lack. First and foremost, waffle fries. I cannot possibly overestimate the value of waffle fries. Something about them just baffles my senses, so that I think they’re somehow vastly superior to regular fries(but only because they are). Second, garlic. The six-way chili comes with chopped garlic, which as far as I know is unique to this particular chain. And as we all know, garlic is the reigning king of garnishes. Finally, there’s vegetarian chili. I never eat it, because I’m a mammal, but I’m told it’s quite good. And again, I haven’t seen a similar offering at other places. Dixie actually boasts a fairly comprehensive menu for a chili joint, and a slightly more endearingly retro décor than other places(looking at you, Gold Star). There’s gyros and greek fries, soups, pies, chicken fingers and spaghetti for the kids, and something called an «alligator»: a hot dog with a dill spear, mayo, mustard, and cheese. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but hey, it’s there! Add to this the convenient drive-through at the Dixie Highway location, and the fact that you can get an adequate meal for five bucks, and we have a place that I can count on if I feel like Camp Washington is just too far away that day.

Thank goodness for Dixie Chili being open until 11:00pm! Hailing from Newport, the city of late night diners, I had a culture shock when visiting friends in Erlanger and all the restaurants closed at 9:00pm on the weekend. Bizarre! We pulled into the deserted drive thru around 9:30pm and ordered our usuals: turkey club sandwich, Greek fries, and a three way. As we approached the window to pay, that’s when things got weird. The drive thru window was more secure than a bank. It had a speaker box, bullet proof glass, and a metal drawer slot through which you passed money and received food. I tried paying with a credit card and was asked to show my ID… for our whopping $ 13.00 bill. Really? Is chili fraud so rabid in Erlanger that this is necessary? After paying, we waited about 15 minutes for our food to arrive. My friend comedically asked, «Hey, did we eat already?» Fortunately, our food was hot and delicious, just like our home Dixie Chili restaurant in Newport. I’m still baffled at the security needed at the drive thru window. Are there really that many hooligans in Erlanger? Price per person: $ 8.00

As a newbie to the Chilli realm, or that would say to what is labelled as Chilli in these parts of the world. Because I have had Chilli con carne many many times all over the world, and my first time eating«tristate» chilli was at Dixie Chilli in Erlanger. I did not know what to expect, except that it would be spicy, the name kind of implies that. But I was wrong, the Tri state version of chilli has nothing to do with spicy hot food, which still puzzles me. I can truly say that after trying both skyline, Goldstar and Camp Washington Chilli, Dixie Chilli beats them all by a long shoot. It has better flavour and the spaghetti is not soaky like at skyline. Not to mention they have the Alligator, which you will have to experience for yourself, but it is good. The only complaint I have is that it would be nice with some better service minded people. Every time I have been there, the people preparing the food, really looked like they did not give a F*ck. I understand dishing out chilli as a full time job, might not be the most exciting thing in the world, but maybe they could at least pretend while I am looking directly at them… All and all I have been accustomed to enjoy, this strange fusion of a dish, that I believe is found nowhere else in America or the world for that matter. Because I have lived in Minneapolis for 1.5 years, and never heard of Skyline/gold star, who is the big dogs in this chilli game… First impression of Tri state chilli, from a foreigners perspective. 3 way: Spaghetti, no problem seen that before. Non spicy hot meat sauce, but with hint of herbs and spices(why in the world do you call it chilli then?) Cheese, cheese, cheese and more cheese! What is it with all that cheese? And why do people look at me funny when I remove 70% of it. Now I eat it on a regular basis and sometimes even crave it(and yes I eat all the cheese)!

Best cincy style chili hands down. If they got some of their Monmouth St employees to come up and give a primer in customer service, it would greatly enhance the experience here. Always at least two workers who look absolutely miserable to be there. Too many small dumb errors. Still worth the trouble though.

For anyone who’s stumbled into the chili argument with me, Cincinnatian or not, you’ll hear me stick up for Dixie Chili. And for a reason none-other than it being amazing, delicious, homemade chili. Now trying to take personal bias out of this review is difficult for me(know that) but I preach the good word of Dixie with the full faith that one bite and you’ll understand. And in the great chili war of southwest Ohio, one bite can be a mighty big leap of faith. So I’ll come at you from this angle. Dixie isn’t just 3-ways and 4-ways. Dixie is a chili parlor that packs a full, delicious menu. Take in a huge selection, with items like greek fries, soups, salads, and a deli that could take off and open its own location. Ok, have you ever had an order come back wrong? Well I haven’t, you know why? ‘Cause I eat at Dixie Chili, where the staff work hard to make sure you items are hot and come out as what you ordered. You can see the entire staff making your food in a clean environment.(that carries over to the dining and restrooms) Now we’ll approach the drive-thru in a sensitive manor, because I’ll be the first to tell you it’s their weak point. I know it, they know it, an any other review will point it out so we’ll address the elephant in the room by just saying don’t order Cincy chili from a drive-thru period, even if you do it from a Skyline. So I’ll wrap this up by saying grab a tray, take your time with the menu, and don’t be afraid to let Dixie Chili whip up your favorite Cincinnati-style foods, because they’ll do them justice, and they’ll have you back before sundown.

I LOVE Dixie Chili! I worked here as a kid, in high school. Years later, it’s still a favorite of mine. Some people go for Skyline or Gold Star, but if you ask me, Dixie Chili has them all beat. It’s so good that once you think about cheese coneys from Dixie Chili, you literally have to go eat them. I am going to do so right now, in fact! I swear.

I was cautious about eating at Dixie Chili for the longest time. I always ate Skyline and thought that Cincinnati chili couldn’t get better than that. Well I was wrong. Dixie Chili far exceeded my expectations. I now go here for all my coney needs! Oh, and you have to try their cookies. Sooo good… As a note for people that are used to Skyline and Gold Star, you order at the counter. Don’t be an idiot like me and automatically sit down and wait for a waitress.

I’ve been visiting this location since I was a little girl… um 30 odd years ago! Now I take my little one. The food is good – it’s the service that has changed at this location. Even 5 years ago, you could still get the older waitresses, that really knew what they were doing. Courteous, efficient, sweet. Now… well, it’s different. Each time I go, I order: 2 coneys(not a CHEESE coney – I know, unheard of!), and a chili cheese sandwich for my little one; sometimes I get the vege soup, sometimes I get the greek salad(which I think is overpriced) and often, the lettuce is browning. Regardless, I am ALWAYS charged for a cheese coney, and when I bring it to their attention, it seems to create a hullabuloo where they have to «figure out» the money I get back. If they’d just listen in the first place, it would be fine and dandy… I love Dixie Chili, but I’m not in love with this location. Never have a problem in Newport!!!

I grew up on Dixie Chili, and while Skyline and Gold Star are not horrible in a pinch, I choose this over the others every time. This location is the one I grew up on in Erlanger and it really has not changed since I was a kid. Quite simply, the BEST coneys in Cincinnati. I can debate their 3-way vs. others too, but the coneys win hands down every time. The chili here is just more consistent and has more and better flavor. And as always, this meal calls for a Red Crème Soda to wash it all down, I really can’t have Red Crème with any other meal. Since I moved to Texas, I have craved Dixie even more and rush to it every time I am home for any reason. An easy 5 star.
