Erie’s Amtrak station needs to be made presentable. Taking the train is a wonderful experience and the perfect option for someone who 1. doesn’t want to fly and 2. doesn’t choose to take the bus and stop in every small town on the map and then some. Amtrak itself and its friendly conductors and staff are great. It’s the concrete walkways into the Amtrak Erie Station and up to the boarding area that are unbelievably shabby. This dilapidation offers a sharp contrast to much of the rest of the beautifully restored Union Station and its microbrewery. As a local resident and regular train traveler, it breaks my heart to think this is the impression Erie leaves on other passengers who also use this station. Please consider even minimal renovations to this part of the architecturally stunning Union Station so that it can match the rest of the building’s classiness. Let’s leave a positive imprint on those who walk through its historic doors.

This train station sits atop a derelict train station that was renovated into a micro brewery. Trains and great beer? Beer while you wait for your train? YES. Now … One night, I intervened here and prevented a would-be robbery from going down … BUT whatever. Trains and beer. Check out BrewErie if you’re nearby.
