Librarians: Every single Librarian I have encountered at Ephrata library has been wonderful. Genuinely helpful, friendly and nice. It’s a pleasure to go there. I have no idea how they managed to find so many nice people to staff the library but they have and other local businesses could learn more than a few things from these librarians. Books: a nice collection but not very big nor deep. If you’re looking for a material written in the last century, you might be disappointed. The collection seems heavily weighted towards newer books. DVD: This is where Ephrata really shines. And it’s in one particular category, DVD of television programs. The Ephrata Library’s collection of British television DVDs might larger than the entire selection of DVDs at Manheim Township, of everything. It’s insane and wonderful. The Children’s section is enormous as well but the selection of American Television is really quite remarkable. The movie section is small, random and while it does offer some surprises, there isn’t much there to make it exciting. The documentary section is particularly weak. Finally, on DVDs, the Ephrata Library places a limit of ten discs person per visit. And they do have one annoying habit, they’ve taken every box set and broken it up and separated each disc. You can do the math here but many times it means multiple visits to see a season of a show. Music CD: A very small and quirky collection. They have what might be the best selection of band music I’ve seen in any Lancaster County library. Otherwise, undistinguished. Overall, it’s a newer building with adequate parking and it’s pretty simple to find. It’s well lit(yes Lancaster City Library, I’m talking to you) and it’s clean. The staff is delightful.
