Snellgrove’s Upholstery & Auto Trim

I called to get an estimate on refinishing four dining room chairs and was told $ 100 – 150 depending on how ornate they were. The chairs are 40 year old straight back with no ornamentation. When I got there with the first chair (we decided to do them piecemeal since it was going to be a bit of money) he gave me the highest estimate of $ 150. I thought that if they were going to do good work then it might be worth it since they’re antiques. They replaced a support that was missing using pine. That’s not good work. I gave them one more chance on a second chair (and because I wanted two chairs to match at least) and they didn’t even clean the second chair before varnishing. There are milk spots UNDER the varnish. (We have toddlers hence the milk…) On a side note, I felt that I got the run around since I was a woman. There was a real «good ol’ boy feel» to the place. It’s Alabama so I guess I should have sent my husband. I was never unpleasant (it just doesn’t do any good when dealing with that mentality) but I think the owner picked up on my displeasure since he didn’t even offer to carry my chair out for me. I don’t recommend them.
