I really enjoy this place! June of 2015 was the second time I’ve eaten here for breakfast on my stop-off from Lewiston to Wallowa Lake back home to Portland, OR. I enjoy stopping in the restaurant because I enjoy the ambience and slowing down a bit before I head back to the frenzied pace of Portland. I like catching up on local politics, humor, and history while I have a meal. The customers are every bit entertaining as the owners! The food is excellent and fits my budget. I have recommended it to all of my family & friend who happen to be in that area. Though my residence says Louisvile, Ky, I have since moved back to Portland, OR.

Had a really nice friendly dinner. We are from the Portland area. The food(we had steak) was good and cooked properly. We enjoyed it a lot.

We first ate dinner here a year ago. Our experience(and the food) was so great that we returned during that trip for another two meals. Now, a year later, we found ourselves in the area again. Our first thought was, «Wahoo! We can eat here again.» We called first because we were driving from Wallowa and expected to reach there three minutes before closing. We were invited to come on over cause they would wait for us… let me repeat, they asked if were hungry… we said yes… they said they would wait for us. When was the last time you called a restaurant and they did that? Our dinner was excellent! Amazing even. Steve is a genius chef and his servers are kind and friendly. Another reviewer said it was slow… but, good food, well prepared, takes a little more time. We felt our time was well spent enjoying our excellent tasting, generous portioned salads. We ordered the steak and the prime rib of pork… both excellent; beer… cold and delicious. And prices? Ridiculously cheap for the amount and quality of food here. Came back the following morning for their Beef Tamales. They were 20 miles out-of-our-way(each way) and still we returned. Why? Because food like that is worth it. I know, I used to be a chef.

The other reviews must have been put here by close friends. We went there Labor Day weekend, on Saturday night. 1 very hard working waitress and 1 cook. They were out of hamburgers, chicken and many other things. The place is rather run down. The food was decent.

The food is well priced and really tasty. They have about 5 beers on tap. The rotating menu is always interesting and very good. One of the best Rueben’s I’ve ever had. I really like this place and was surprised when i found something this good in the middle of nowhere Oregon.

Four of us stopped for breakfast at 11 am after the Joseph parade. No cars parked outside should have been the first clue that this was going to come back and bite us. There were 2 people seated at a table and a couple at the bar. Pointing us to a table for three and then appearing aggravated when my sister grabbed a place setting from the table next to us should have been the second clue. I ordered decafe coffee and Kathi(the owner/server) informed me that they didn’t have decafe. Oddily it wasn’t until later that I noticed an orange carafe sitting empty and realized that Kathi just didn’t want to make a pot. This eventually sent me on the hunt to purchase a cup of decafe while our order was being prepared. Once I returned to Lears with my coffee Kathi informed me that she couldn’t allow me to bring in my own drink due to their liquor license. To be honest I didn’t know it was a bar so I totally understood her point and I made her understand my point that if she had made me some decafe in the first place

I’ll be the one to burst everyone’s bubble on this place. Food: very good, we had Chile enchiladas, steak sandwiches, and turkey avocado sandwichs that were all good. Menu: extensive but they were out of all steak products, no prime rib, no rib eye, no New York strip. Of course you don’t find this out until sitting for 30 minutes waiting for your order o be taken(see next). Service: Friendly, but s. l. o. w. There were maybe 3 people at the bar drinking beer, we were a party of 6. It took for freaking ever for someone to at least aknowledge us, and yes eye contact was made several times. Drinks: good selection of microbrews on tap. Would I return? Yes, but not if I’m in any hurry, and I would pick a few selections from the menu for backups.
