This cemetery is listed on the website with the caption«Original cemetery of Enterprise, final resting place of 40 plus Civil War soldiers». Google as I might, I could find no other information about it online, so I had no choice but to just go visit it. I accidentally drove past it at first because I thought there would be a driveway or a parking area to turn into, but no, you literally drive into, through it, and back out. There is no designated parking, unless you just do so on the dirt path. There isn’t much space to park on the grass because there are headstones nearly everywhere, but I managed to find a spot to pull off onto near what looks to be a newer section of the cemetery. The grass was moderately in need of cutting, several headstones were broken(maybe due to age), and a few even looked as though they might have been tipped over on purpose(they just seemed too big and heavy for it to have been accidental). However, it is still beautiful, even if a bit unkempt. Reading the headstones and seeing the wear that a century plus has done on many of them was a really moving experience. I do wish it was named something a little less bland and maybe a bit more commemorative, but it’s worth a visit if you enjoy the history and beauty that cemeteries hold, like I do.
