After a good 16-year run, the 7 – 11 is now closed and had been shuttered since last week. The day before they closed, when I walked in, I spoke with the family: son, Walter(and mom, Paz), and he was just as bummed as I was since I believed they were local fixture. Apparently, the owner/landlord was raising rents to ridiculous levels in an effort to update the aging commercial center, I’m told. The landlord has grander plans to turn the 7 – 11 building into a restaurant, I’m told. Good luck Walter and mom! I wish there was a better way to keep in touch, and I hope to run into you somewhere around town with a new business.

Looking at my checking balance this morning, I noticed two charges from this 7 – 11 for the exact same amount. Maybe because when I tried to use my debit card and the reader said«waiting for attendant» or whatever, the clerk(older lady) told me to swipe the card again. When I hesitated and told her the reader said it was waiting for her, she literally grabbed my card and ran it as a credit transaction. Now I’m out 11 bucks. Which isn’t too big of a deal, but this is the second time she did something like this to me. My advice — always ask for a receipt when dealing with this lady.

This is my favorite 7 – 11 location because the staff is awesome. Paz I think her name is, usually is working when I swing by for lunch or snacks during the day. I love sandwiches and they actually have pretty good ones here. Back in their deli cooler they have sandwiches and a ton of other things that make for a quick and pretty filling lunch. I usually get either the turkey sandwich with herb dijon or another turkey sandwich with a chipotle mayo I think it is. Paired w/PB filled pretzels or Takis, grab a Mountain Dew Code Red & I’m set! So other than that, the regular snacks, candies and drinks are your typical 7 – 11. And cannot forget one of the best things about 7 – 11: the Slurpees! Weezen’ The Juuuuicee! Haha(and yes I did that once and got a free Slurpee out of it but not at this location!)

Not the worst 7-Eleven I’ve ever been to… but I swear, EVERY time I hit this joint up, there’s a gang of pan handlers outside that resembles the D-Line of the ’76 Pittsburgh Steelers football team. I don’t think the workers here care that much, because they must see it happening, but they never do anything to stop it. On a brighter note, their Slurpees seem to have a perfect balance of high fructose corn syrup, red 40 and crushed ice. One of the best Coca Cola Slurpees I’ve ever had. I guess they have that going for them…
