Appears to be out of business. Dark and an empty parking lot on a Saturday night(Feb 2016)

Not too many spots to eat at in Emporia but since the reviews were good we decided to swing in. We were pleasantly surprised at the food. It was buffet style and had an arrow of choices from fried chicken, fish, steamed shrimp, frog legs, veggies and several desserts. The place was clean which is what you always want to see in a buffet style restaurant. Overall we had a great experience and our waitress was great!

I dined here about 3 years ago. The buffet seemed to be the best bang for your buck. There was plenty of flavorful food and many drink options. I opted for the water as I was always eating my weight in calories. I haven’t had the opportunity to return yet but maybe on my next trip to VA, I’ll stop in with my family for lunch.

Traveling for business and found this gem. Very reasonably priced and the food was buffet style. Pork BBQ was good with some eastern Carolina style vinegars sauce. Multiple items on the buffet so everyone should be pleased.

I signage when entering is confusing as someone already made note of in their review. We sat ourselves down and service was quick, however, to find us. With buffet the buffet service, for us, was only drinks and they did do their job well. For the food it was a bit hit and miss. The place was busy so the food turnover kept it fresh but I think for our group the choices and presentation just was not working as much as we would have liked. We did find enough to make us happy for dinner but not enough to make this a place to go out of our way for.

The girlfriend and I stopped in here in the way home. Figure we will give it a chance. We walked in and looked at the food and it looked OK so we decided to stay. Ordered drinks and went to the buffet and grabbed plates. Both plates we grabbed still had food on them, so we grabbed 2 more and again they had food crusted on them, grabbed 2 more and again more food crusted on, so we decided to leave. As we were walking out we told the lady at the register, who was on her phone texting and all she said was ok thanks for coming and she went back to her phone. So we left. We will never stop there again.

After a long and frustrating trip up I-95, we stopped in for lunch. For $ 8.99 we we pleasantly surprised by the home cooking warmth of this place. The buffet was replenished frequently with hot food. Lots of fried chicken, ribs, fish, and traditional southern comfort food. Best collards I’ve ever had. The restaurant itself is older but friendly and clean. Take a chance on this one. Delicious.

We decided to stop by for lunch after Church today, and it was a mistake. The Broccoli Salad should be avoided at all costs. The dressing seems to be nothing but Mayonnaise. The Potato Salad, too, is best left alone. While the Fried Chicken, Cornbread and Angel Biscuits were good, all of the vegetables were canned, the Mashed Potatoes were cold, the Macaroni and Cheese was nasty(and I would bet, frozen). The hamburger steaks were cold and tough, and in gravy from a mix. The desserts were no better. The only part of the Coconut Cake that was edible was the icing, and the Pecan Pie was inedible. I would also bet that none of the desserts were made in-house, as they claim. If you are fine paying $ 12.99 per person, plus $ 2.19 for a drink, for some fried chicken and cornbread, stop on by, otherwise, keep driving. You can get Fried Chicken that tastes just as good, much less expensively, at any fast food outlet or grocery store deli

It was not very clean and the bathrooms were worse. Most of the staff was nice. The hushpuppies were okay, the Mac and cheese was gross, the green beans tasted only like meat, the corn was obviously canned, the fried chicken was okay, the salad bar didn’t have many options and only had iceburg lettuce(no spinach or greens), the mashed potatoes were good, and the banana cream pie was good. It gave me and my boyfriend stomach issues.

A couple of doors down from the Cracker Barrel is Carolina Barbecue & Chicken. They are located in a former Western Sizzlin’ location, and has additional locations in Rocky Mount, NC. If you go there plan on eating from the buffet. I found a pretty good salad bar selection(as in certainly not the Golden Corral but a better variety than most). The main entrees are simply good Southern cooking food, such as fried chicken, barbecue, fish, chicken & dumplings. Plenty of sides — beans, potatoes, corn, mac & cheese. Ample choices for dessert as well. Enjoyed my selections from the buffet, and thought the meal to be a good value. Signage is the only real negative comment I have. There wasn’t a clear sign when I entered to let be know if I was to be greeted and seated or if I was to find my own seat. Finally saw«please be seated» at the top of a hand written specials board. Other than the lack of that sign, this place has overkill on signage at the register(20+ menu item signs) and hand written signs elsewhere(do not enter — employees only).

Worth the stop, plenty of locals. What’s that tell you? It tells you to go in! Nothing fancy here but that doesn’t mean it’s not good! Frog legs, large steamed shrimp, fried oysters and some of the best black eyed peas I’ve ever had. Fried chicken was so-so, that was the only thing I didn’t care for. Come try.

This place was inexpensive, with great country cooking. The only complaint is that the food should be kept hotter. Lots of variety, great tasting meats, good side dishes, and a nice salad and dessert bar. The pot roast was so tender and flavorful! Hush puppies were yummy and service was good. Definitely will come again when we are in this neck of the woods!

For a quick meal if you’re on I-95 near Emporia, you MUST stop here. Everything is fresh and very tasty. They even serve frog legs!

So yummy… best fried chicken outside my Mom’s kitchen… I was in town to lay my Mom to rest. The problem with this place is you can eat as much as you like… not good for your waste line. Nice staff that is very friendly… I will return during the holidays to place presents on Mom’s grave… I will pop by.

Went here on my way to and from Myrtle Beach. I love this place, it has amazing food, you pay one price and get to eat whatever you want and it is a VERY reasonable price You can have ice cream, fried chicken, Mac and cheese, frog legs, etc. I never would’ve thought that I loved frog legs… I live VERY far away from this place but it is one of my favorite places to eat(I’ve only been there twice) It is an endless buffet

This is a fried food heaven. Don’t go if you are on a diet or if you have dietary restrictions. We were looking for a place to stop on our way from Bald Head Island back home to Pittsburgh and Carolina Barbecue sounded like it would work for all three adults and six children. This was a perfect choice. The name is misleading. It is more comfort/southern than BBQ, but they did have pulled pork and ribs. The buffet had three tables worth of food. One had salads and sweets. The«healthiest» thing would be the salad, but since it was iceberg lettuce, «healthy» is likely debatable. The highlight for me was the fried chicken. I’m not sure what was in their batter, but it was exceptional. Everyone else seemed to agree. They also had unique items like back fat, chicken gizzards and frogs legs. Overall, a great dining experience and perfect with the car full of kids that we had. I can’t say we’ll be back, but if I’m ever in the area again I will. It was surprising that they charged for the baby. I understand that she did eat some food, but I have

If you are a fancypants who judges books by their covers, stop reading and don’t come here. You will be offended by the décor(or lack thereof), never mind the food. If you’re in the mood for an abundant variety of affordable down-home offerings, though, you should give Carolina Barbeque & Chicken a try. And I am saying this as someone with a general prejudice against buffet-style restaurants. As others have pointed out, this is not a true BBQ joint. When I went for dinner just now, however, they had some very fine shredded pork BBQ available at the buffet. I enjoyed it with the hot pepper-vinegar sauce provided, but honestly it was perfect even without condiments. I will definitely return for some takeout to bring back to BBQ-obsessed friends back up Richmond. Other standout offerings included meaty green beans, lima beans, black-eyed peas, pickled cukes and onions, chicken salad at the salad bar, sweet yeast rolls that seemed homemade, and banana pudding. The fried chicken was good but not great, in my opinion. Steer clear of the bland, obviously prepackaged mashed potatoes and mac n’ cheese. The waitstaff at Carolina BBQ were friendly and attentive, keeping my sweet tea full to the brim throughout the meal. I paid just under $ 13 with tip for this epic sampler of country cookin’, and now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I need a postprandial nap.

I was tempted to rate this place with two stars but decided to be generous as it was not that bad and the choices on this remote area along the highway are not plentiful. It’s a buffet style and the food is eatable. It is not memorable in any way but it is cheap enough. The place seems a favorite among locals which seems to indicate that alternatives are not that great. It’s a fine option for a quick inexpensive meal on the way but it is not a destination!

Wow! This place is AMAZING! Stumbled upon it. Looks like a dive from the outside but don’t be fooled. The food is fresh and delicious. Home cooking at its best!
